I was going to ask your top five men’s fragrances of the last 50 years. But as a child of the ‘60s, I thought why not your top 6 since 1960?

With apologies to Old Spice, Tabac, and the Chanels, Guerlains, et al., that came before…🙂

Six Favorites since 1960
1. Ralph Lauren Polo (1978)
2. Patou Pour Homme (1980)
3. Christian Dior Jules (1980)
4. Chanel Antaeus (1981)
5. Calvin Klein Calvin (1981)
6. Chanel Antaeus Sport (1985)

Honorable Mention / I’m conflicted about having left out:
1. Givenchy Gentleman (1974)
2. Bel Ami (1986)
3. Chanel Bois Noir (1987)
4. Balenciaga Ho Hang Club (1987)
5. Moschino Pour Homme (1990)
6. Polo Crest (1991)

I swapped Patou Pour Homme to the first list and Ho Hang Club to the 2nd list, but I’m conflicted.

Seeing now that everything in the first list was released between 1 and 2 on the second list makes me feel like it’s right this way!

In no particular order and in most cases original formulations:
Rive Gauche Pour Homme.
Fahrenheit.
Derby.
Nicolai New York.
Balenciaga.
Polo.
These are all ones that I own or have gone through full bottles of.
There are many gems that I have sampled, but couldn't place them in the top six without intimate knowledge.

Some stellar lists already. I should probably have made it “top 60” since 1960–it’s so hard to choose. 🙂

But my top 6 (roughly chronologically) are:
—Brut
—Aramis
—Equipage
—Giorgio for Men
—Cool Water
—Boucheron Pour Homme EDT

Many great choices mentioned, also adding in otherwise no particular order:

Esencia Loewe
Bogart Furyo
Armani Eau pour Homme
YSL pour Homme
Aramis Tuscany
Floris Elite

Two great lists! And I was similarly conflicted. Polo and Antaeus are two of my all-time favorites. And Equipage making my top 6 without Bel Ami seemed an inexcusable oversight. But what a glorious era for fragrances the ‘60s-‘80s were. So many quality, groundbreaking classics! 🙂
