In real life, honeysuckle (the purply/orange variety) is my favourite smell. We had a plant in the garden when I was young and I remember my mom pointing out to smell the insignificant looking blooms; heaven! This love is closely followed by the scent of jasmine and wild roses. I have learned to love the scent of lilies via fragrance. I used to hate having lilies in the house, but then I met some lily perfumes and now I can't get enough of the real thing either.

In perfumery, I love all florals; soliflore, abstract, bouquets, give 'm to me! My favourite floral scent is Lys Mediterranee, and I'm pretty sure jasmine, iris, and rose are vying for the top spot in terms of most frequently occurring notes in my wardrobe. It will surprise no one that I am a Chanel girl at heart!

For me it's probably Osmanthus.

Wonderful photo of my floral favorite, Osmanthus. It actually looks like that in September/October where I live, the tiny yellow flowers raining down in a scent-cloud of tea and apricots. They're called Sweet Olive trees in the American South. When a rainstorm knocks the blossoms to the ground, the fragrance that rises up is breathtaking.

Elderflower is a close second for me, because they smell exactly like lychee to me. But elderflower plants are non-existent where I live, so one has to make do with the liqueur and the flavored teas and cordials.

Honeysuckle is a childhood favorite of mine as well 🙂

I'd have to go with rose and iris, though I'm a bit picky about how I like my perfumes with those notes. I also really like carnation, ylang-yland and narcissus, sadly so easy to find in perfumes these days. I like blended abstract florals more than soliflores.

In real life, I adore the roses of course (and different varieties have such different scents!) but also the scent of lilacs, hyacinths, lilies of the valley, freesias, orange and lemon blossoms, violets, peonies, jasmine, clover, blossoming trees such as bird cherry... in fact most scented flowers... but I'm not a fan of those in perfumes. (Also, see above: abstraction.)

One type of flower whose scent I don't like either in nature or in perfume: lilies.

Jasmine, though I think I prefer more abstract fragrances with jasmine (Joy parfum, Coco EDT, No. 5 EDT) as opposed to a more straight-up jasmine like Grand Bal, which is pretty but doesn't move me. I haven't tried some of the more niche jasmines (thinking Lutens here) that people really rave about so I might change my mind.

I'm pretty fond of functional, cheap florals, tbh. I like Ivory soap lily-of-the-valley even if it's not as refined as a full perfume (or as real lily-of-the-valley). In real life, spirea has a beautiful "barnyard in heaven" aroma that I almost never see brought up!

Hyacinth, lilac, sweet pea, freesia, tulip (yes, they do have a smell: you have to insert nose right into flower.:), peony, clover, heather, linden blossom, wisteria, beach rose ( a wild rose in Maine), all roses, carnation, jasmine.

Also we had a certain yellow lily here in Maine ... the odor was so intense & gorgeous, it wafted all through the front yard! It was only one lily. Unbelievable.

I love ALL flowers ... the tropical varieties being my least favorite to wear. very pungent.

These sound amazing!

I wish I could smell that yellow lily.

Last summer, I came across a house in our neighborhood that had the most intoxicating fragrance wafting from their front yard. The scent had literally stopped our walk in its tracks, and I was enamored. I’d love to have a perfume with this note as the star.

Problem is, I have no idea what smells so good. As far as I can see, there are a few flowering bushes (white clusters of flowers) that may be the source. I’m waiting for the day that I see someone outside of the home, so that I might ask them what those bushes are (Google has failed me).

What is your favorite flower in fragrance? I tend to have a lot of rose-centric scents, when it comes to florals.
Do you remember the time of day? It could have been night-blooming jasmine, one of my favorite scents in the whole world.

I came into this year hating rose, but Chanel Paris-Paris (and, to a lesser extent, Roger Bird Taif Aoud) changed my mind.

I haven't yet found a house that has been able to imbue another type of floral with the same complexity that you can find in a top-notch rose. I do love the smell of orange and lime blossoms, but I find these frags to be pretty flat and one-note.

That’s wonderful to hear that you’ve opened yourself up to rose!

If you're open to rose, Neela Vermeire's Mohur EDP or Extrait should be on your list to sample. After sniffing, resistance is futile.

If you're into jasmine, there's no better than Henry Jacques Jasmin or La Nuit. For saffron, White Saffron Or.

Sounds lovely!

It was mid afternoon 🙂

It could still be.

The selling point of my first apartment was a big bush of night-blooming jasmine right in front of the A/C unit. It flooded the place with its lovely fragrance.

Sadly, whatever idiot did the yard cut it shortly after I moved in, so it was all for naught...
