All this lawn-raking in here makes me wonder why I never hear anyone in my region talk about moss being a problem in lawns. Is lawn moss somehow specific to Britain? I'm thinking of sowing clover seed in areas of my lawn, with the hope of one day having an all-clover yard. I love the look of it, it's so friendly to pollinators, and what a relief it would be to only mow once or twice a summer, rather than 2 to 3 times a month.

And speaking of grassy... since the temperature just leapt up 30F degrees here (78F/24C!), 'tis time to imagine some spring greenery.

Ah, a lady after my own heart! I say go for it with the clover @CookBot! I scattered a handful of Trifolium repens (White Clover) seed a few years ago and it has self-seeded so freely that I now have large patches of the stuff all over the garden, the bees adore it and when I picked a few of the flowers a couple of years ago I realised they had a lovely, delicate fragrance. I absolutely love having a garden full of wildlife, especially butterflies! The healthy insect population means I now also have Pipistrelle bats visiting regularly at dusk! :)

Wonderful SOTD BTW, I got a small bottle of No 19 from the late 70s last week and can't stop smelling it from the bottle, so superior to the current EDT! (y)

Your avatar even looks like a moth visiting a clover blossom. 💚

We just mow whatever grows here (well, the lawn guys do), I don't worry about it being "grass" and never have. It's green. I've put down clover seed, grass seed, whatever seed when it's mostly low growing weeds. Except for the bull thistles that arrived when we had to have the lawn resown after some drain work. Those can rot in hell, we pulled them out by digging out the roots and threw them into the actual garbage. Spiky bois.

Neil Morris Prowl for today.

That's pretty much my approach too. Right now I'm probably about 40% dandelions, but I don't begrudge them the real estate. And I do love the idea of looking out at a field of clover. And I *do* begrudge spending $100/month for lawn mowing five months a year. That's money that could be spent on perfume!

Happy Basenotes Anniversary to @DrTricia.

It has been a beautiful spring day here. I was up at dawn for no particular reason and watched the sun come up with all it's orange and pink tones. I watched a jet fly over, leaving it's orange con-trail. It flew over me, and flew to the horizon. At that point, it looked like it was flying into the ground and I thought "Aha. The earth is round."

I know this is so silly! Of course the earth is not round! It's slightly oval--an oblate spheroid.

Yes. Yes, of course I can spot the difference. It's fricking obvious! Don't try to tell me this is not important.

Which brings me to my SOTD-- YSL Paris Eau de Printemps Roses Enchantees.

😎

Spelling corrected--and before I saw your call out, may I add.🎱 Me and @CookBot. We are the difference spotters!

Didn't there used to be a " . " in your user name. "Cook.bot?"

You've been reformulated. 😊

Ha! And I was SO SURE nobody would notice. Yes, I removed the period. Ever since the new Basenotes software was installed, I've been missing callout alerts because people often type @<name> without using the dropdown account name that the software offers, and spelling it themselves without the period. My ego simply couldn't allow that to continue.

Well, on a whim, I reached for Alien Eau Extraordinaire. I was never my favorite, even in my Mugler-fanatic days. In fact I never bought it, because -get this- it was too weak. (Don’t be alarmed- I’m a homebody and seldom leave my home, so I don’t offend others.)

Anyway, I got AeA from the Mugler site a couple of years ago at a discount when L’Oreal was purging the Clarins stock. I was in an irrational panic and bought up everything I could. 😇🤣

AeA wasn’t a LOVE, love, but certainly became a strong like during the sweltering summer. (I still thought it was weak, though.)

My nose and tastes have matured, not to the extent of many of yours, but definitely for me…. it’s funny how all of these elegant fragrances I’ve tried over the last couple of years, as gorgeous as they are, don’t “perform” the way Muglers do (or did, anyway.)

Of course IFRA is a bigger factor and AeA was released back in 2014. There’s no telling how it would have been butchered, were it not a limited time flanker.

I know performance can be controversial when discussing the value of a perfume, but it has always been a factor for me, because I tend to enjoy the perfume more without the effort of trying to sniff. I perceive them to be more bang for my hard-earned buck.

It’s certainly not a bad thing to enjoy perfumes closer to the skin now, as I’ve come to enjoy new artistic creations, even when they’re fleeting or close to the skin. Compared to all of the newer, more elegant fragrances I’ve tried, AeA is now went from a “weak” scent to one of my most powerful.

Sorry for the rambling stream of consciousness here, but it’s just an interesting observation to me. And I’ve been wondering if I’m maybe just becoming nose-blind. But I certainly smell this one as clear as a bell.

Hello, all!

Happy BNiversary to @DrTricia 🥂

SOTD is Dioressence.

Very busy lately, haven’t been online much at all. My mother and stepfather have built themselves a house, and are finally due to move in at the end of the month. They want to start anew, and are leaving almost everything (furniture, electronics, etc) behind, and are buying everything all over again in the style of their new home. We’ve been asked to help sell/donate/throw away almost everything in their current home, besides what’s in their bedrooms and closets (my mother is also quite OCD, and doesn’t want anyone other than my husband and I to do it). All of it seems absolutely absurd to me.

The downside? My mother is a class A hoarder. Like, bad.

The upside? My mother almost exclusively hoards new (and a lot of the time, luxury) items. This means everything is sealed, in boxes, has tags. Rooms and rooms (literally) of vintage and recent items, almost all of it unused. Very easy to move and sell.

Did I keep some things for myself (with permission)? Hell yes. *cough*handbags*cough*. We’ve already gotten takers for all of the furniture and electronics, and plan to have a huge estate-type sale in the spring for everything else. It will probably be over the course of a couple of weeks. We’ll be donating all of the profits to different charities.

My back hurts. Can’t wait to catch up on all the threads later tonight.

Have a great day, all.
