Hi all,

As many Basenoters know, I had lost (nearly 100%) of my sense of Smell (I suspect due to Covid) for a period of over a year and a half. Since the (mostly) return of my sense of smell, I've noticed that many of my (less expensive/budget) Designer Fragrances smell especially GOOD! Such is the case today's wearing one of my "dumb reach" Fragrances, BOGART "One Man Show".

I don't completely understand what has/is/may be happening with my (still healing ?) sense of smell. My sense of smell still appears to be in a state of flux. That is to say, certain (smells/scents in general) I perceive (at certain times) as amped up, while other scents/notes, not so much. At any rate, today, I'm getting a HUGH blast of Tobacco today from "One Man Show" which I'm really enjoying.

It will be interesting to once again explore (my many/almost forgotten) Fragrances (which I haven't worn in some time) as it might very well be an entire new experience.

This isn't surprising, I think I went through something similar. I only lost my sense of smell for a few days - in fact, I never lost it completely, it was just significantly diminished - and over the next few months, I noticed a difference in how I perceived certain fragrances. I became easier to pick up on a lot of the 'non-note' aromas and textures; a lot of the more chemical-smelling aspects became more evident. But also as you say 6😺s, there was a change in the balance of notes as well. Eventually you'll probably get used to is as your 'new' nose...😀

Hi slpfrsly,

Well Sir, I am very happy to hear your "similar" situation was very short lived. After a year and a half, I truly started to become depressed about my situation (as I so love this Hobby) and I was unsure if my sense of smell would ever return.

One early morning (some eighteen months later) I was in the Kitchen and, I smelled a smell of something that made me recoil. It took me a few moments to realize, Oooh wow, I can smell again (even if it smelled rank/stinks). Well, lol, the "stink" I was smelling turned out to be the opening (and dishing out) of Wet Cat Food by my Wife lol. Ooh my God, the smell was so strong!

Another example is, just a few weeks ago, I received my bottle of "Red Tobacco". I had only sampled "Red Tobacco" some five years earlier and I VERY much loved (and wanted) this Fragrance. So, my first (recent) wearing of "Red Tobacco" (from this new bottle) resulted in my having an awful negative reaction. I thought, arrrrrr! this purchase was a HUGE (and costly) mistake. So, I re-boxed the "Red Tobacco" and stored away and planned to trade/sell in the future. Flash forward tonight, I decided I HAD to try "Red Tobacco" again (I just had to know if I would again have such a negative experience).

Well, I sprayed a couple of (small) sprays of "Red Tobacco" (SUPER STRONG) and, wouldn't you know it, tonight, I'm digging it!
So, I guess my sense of smell is truly in a weird state of flux/correction. Ooh, my Wife RECOILED at the smell of my wearing "Red Tobacco".
Ooh well.

Wishing you all the best and thanking you for the very considerate words posted here to be thoughtfully shared with us.
Having said this, there are so numerous fragrance choices (quite surprisingly or not) in ANY price ranges that deserve some rediscovering even just for the fun of (re) discovering certain-both older and newer-scent classics.

Ooh, thank you Sir Ken for your thoughtful words. Ah, yes indeed, there are so many Fragrances (regardless of price) that deserve to be discovered or RE-discovered, be they new or Classic Fragrances. As an example, Lalique "Encre Noire" (and it's two Flankers) are a prime example of how EXCELLENT a Fragrance can be that need not be expensive. I current own five bottles of "Encre Noire" & it's Flankers). I find ALL three are EXCELLENT.

I have to admit, never in my twenty years as a Basenotes member have I come across such a "Niche" quality Fragrance as Lalique Encre Noire for so little money (which I exactly the reason why I went a tad crazy and purchased a total of five bottles) Lalique: Encre Noire, Sport and L'Extreme.

Thank you again my friend Ken.
