I had a four hour layover in Detroit on Sunday and discovered that they have a World Duty Free store, so I spent an hour sampling fragrances. This one really struck a cord with me, but decided to ease into it with a mini bottle purchased on ebay.

Excellent. I really love the trio of Cuir Cannage, Cuir de Russie EdP, and Cuir Mauresque. Slightly partial to the last one.

I found Cuir Mauresque nice (thanks again to @cacio for the sample!), but it wasn’t a love, as I got more orange than leather. I’m simply not partial to Sheldrake’s signature fruit accords at Lutens, even if dried is better than stewed.

I haven’t yet tried the Chanel Exclusifs Cuir de Russie in either EdP or EdT. I’m all about the animalics and birch tar, which I gather have been considerably tamed by J. Polge, though I should check them for myself. The vintage EdC is sublime, and the ‘80s EdT is in the same ballpark.

One of these days, I’m going to compile a highly subjective leather survey, but that’s some ways out.
