Mate, New York Dark is the only version to my knowledge that contains any Bengal Tiger sweat. PM me if you want the GCMS analysis.

I think I have a feel for approximately when the bottles changed based on these release dates:

Antaeus - 1981. Early ads showed the concentration printed on the back of the bottles.

Antaeus Sport - 1985. The concentration is on the front of the bottle, above "Chanel." (There was a suggestion on here that the change happened as early as 1983).

Platinum Egoiste - 1993. The concentration is still on the front of the bottle, above "Chanel."

Allure Homme - 1999. The concentration is now on front of the bottle below "Chanel." (Something from a few years ago made me feel like this could have happened as late as 1997 or 1998, but I can't remember what it was that had convinced me).
Update on the new bottle I purchased. the one on the right. The castorium dirtiness on the dry down has been smoothed out to like a woody sensation. The 1983 on the left starts off really dirty, Leathery and the rose comes forward immediately with it all, the whole thing seems to be more dense. If you had the bottle on the right you would be very pleased with it as it is very strong but it is more to the point of an Antaeus smell. I understand why the early 80s bottles command the high prices. Its the same with most 80s perfumes after a few years things were altered

Hi Bud, here's a good bit of info for you. Its a video the Antaeus Batch code 79b is printed on the back of the box and stamped on the label on the bottle. April 1981. With the Eau de toilette above the Antaeus.

I wonder what was the reason to have two different batch code systems for the Paris only EDT bottles. I didn't see an explanation on the ROLS article.

That 3 batch code dates back to the 1970s.

Could also be July 1989. I stopped watching that video at '...that's not a batch code, Chanel batch codes are four digits...' There are five different Chanel batch code systems and only one of them uses four digits!

Hello fellow Antaeus lovers 👋

Could anyone please help me date this bottle I've had rattling around my frag collection for a while.

It smells wonderful and a lot richer and stronger than my 2015 bottle.

Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Not a lot to go on!

Eau de Toilette under Chanel dates it to post 1994/5, no Paris under Chanel (not sure when that was added) so probably late 1990's early 2000's at a guess.

Thanks for the help brother 🙏

I did read in an earlier post regarding the 'W1X 3DA' postcode but they never said when that started becoming a thing just that they shipped over the ingredients from France to London.

Well it looks like I haven't got a classic vintage 😕

But it Still smells better then my 100ml 2015 bottle, not that my 2015 bottle smells bad it's just a bit denser/richer projects more and lasts longer.

It's a shame I don't wear either very often as it's still a great scent. (I have too many frags and need to thin down)

I may end up selling the vintage Antaeus and keep the 2015 bottle as someone else can have a chance at using it how it's meant to be used.

Thanks again for your help my friend 🙏

You're most welcome.

I just don't know what the later versions smell like in comparison to the earlier ones. All I know is the ones I have Aftershave and Eau de Toilette (from the late 1980's) are very strong, so strong I can still smell it on myself the next day!

The key to all Chanel's is to look for the ones with the After Shave/Apres Rasage or Eau de Toilette above the word Chanel as that tells you straight away it's pre 1994/5 the only way to tell the production date then is to check the batch code if it has one.

Even though vintage Antaeus prices seem 'fairly robust' I think it's still worth chasing one down as it's a pretty popular fragrance, smells great and the vintage ones will only ever increase in price.

Looks like it could be from July 1989 - a batch code starting with 70 indicates a production date of October 1988, so 79 would be July '89.

Perhaps, but unlikely, as the % sign is used on the bottle, something that changed during the 1980s. Given Antaeus was launched in 1981 (not sure of the exact date, but it may have been after March of that year), bottles from that year would have used the ° symbol to denote alcohol by volume, so your tester bottle is almost certainly from 1988 - all the info is on the Raiders page.

If it does date to 1981, I think EAU DE TOILETTE will appear on the rear face of the bottle.

Chanel 4 digit batch codes are sequential and run from 00XX - 99XX and then reset. Only the first two digits correspond to the month/year. 79XX could be either March 1981 or July 1989.

Given I have a 100ml EDT with the batch code 71XX which is likely November 1988 with the Eau de Toilette on the front, yours is earlier.

Chanel Antaeus was launched in the UK in October - November 1981, it looks like yours may be an early Tester bottle.
