Vetiver Bourbon by Parfum d'Empire
I talked enough about that one on the other vetiver threads... a must smell!

It’s on my “must-try” list.

Bois Tabac Virginia by Le Jardin Retrouve'
A top notch dusty vetiver/cedar combo at the intersection of FM Vetiver Extraordinaire and Mona di Orio Vetyver.... that speaks volumes!
The tobacco is a ghost that I can hardly spot, but the very reasonable pricing will have me forgive that hiccup.

I struggled with the first few minutes, possibly because there was quite some time between when I ordered my sample set and when I tried it, but based on what followed, I really should buy a bottle. I wouldn’t look to it as a vetiver, though.

Le Jardin Retrouve has been on my to try list for a while. Great pricing, and from what I understand interesting frags. Now I have more reason to order that sample set!

I highly recommend you do.

I struggled also with the top.
I agree that LJR Bois Tabac Virginia is much more a cedar fragrance than vetiver, but I think it’s noticeable in the base. As for the tobacco, I cannot spot it, can you?

I just found this thread and want to revive it.
I recently bought AZHA Perfumes Vetiver Pepper from Notino, hoping to do a nice discovery, but no luck. Packaging and bottle are impressive, but what is inside the bottle, meh ...
Never heard about that house... Sorry to hear about that :(

I recently blind bought these 2.
I was surprised by how much more I like the Lalique over the Givenchy.
I tried the regular Encre Noire in the past and wasn’t crazy about it, but I’m really liking the L’extreme version.
That said, the Givenchy does seem to be opening up & evolving a bit more with each wear. It might just need some time.

I’ll have to retry the a l’extreme. Seen so many people prefer that one but I’m having trouble remembering it.

Great thread Andy !!!
Goutal vintage Vetiver is my favourite, followed by Aldolf Dominguez, Vetiver Hombre and Bois de Vetyver from Jacques Bogart...also the vintage, (not modern) Lanvin Vetiver. Just remembered Jaspar Conrad Him !

Recently, I'm attracted to the more subtle use of vetiver, (mostly in womens fragrances). Best example I can think of is Bal d'Afrique. Also, Habanita.

Many great options mentioned, also taking the liberty to recommend, second and/or further add Korres Vetiver Root.
If liking earthy Mediterranean style vetivers, also not expensively priced, one can hardly go wrong with this one.

Definitely try Vetiver Gris (Jacques Fath) if you haven't yet. Wearing it heavily in recent weeks I've come to realize the focus is very much not centered on the vetiver at all, it rather plays a brilliant support role.

Exactly my feeling. It should have been named "Iris Gris" in my opinion. I guess they did not, to avoid the confusion with the re-issue of L'Iris de Fath that happened roughly at the same time.
Anyways, a stunning modern/metallic iris beautifully supported by a hint of vetiver. Could be a perfect signature scent for whom looks for a modern, work-safe but unusual fragrance that is not in line with the usual freshies. Really well blended.

For whatever reason, I haven't been reaching for my vetiver heavy hitters lately - mostly just dipping my toe in with scents where vetiver plays a supporting role, often in very different ways, like in Bel Ami and Shaal Nur. The only proper "vetiver" I've been craving lately is Vetiver Oriental, one of the most comforting scents I own. But something tells me I'll be back on the vetiver train soon enough...

Fall really is for vetiver and I’m going to crack open my bottle of Vetiver Oriental and dust off my bottle of Heeley Vetiver Veritas this week!

I’m so grateful for this thread and the articulate entries, so thank you to all. I recently became infatuated with Sycomore- bought a huge bottle- despite being poor-ish- and then bought Encre Noire, Murdock Vetiver and Encre Noire a l Extreme. Encre Noire a La Extreme wasn’t as purely vetiver as I like, and Terre D’Hermes Extreme seemed harsh. My question is, as a newcomer, what kind/style/country of origin vetiver am I enjoying in Sycomore and the original Encre Noire? I’d like to get more like these- but I have no context for knowing what experienced noses would classify these as.
