Turmeric?

Turmeric is one of my favorite spice, I love the way it smells too - it's almost a comfort inducing aroma for me. While it isn't used in them, I do smell a prominent presence of Turmeric in Lorenzo Villoresi Spezie and Incensi, both.

Both these scents have immense nostalgic significance for me

This would be interesting to know.. I have only experienced turmeric in many dishes but have never really paid attention to it as a note in a fragrance... Would love to learn more about it too.... thanks for bringing it up..

I don't think I'd like to wear scents with prominent turmeric notes. I associate it with bitter taste and traditional herbal drinks.

I swear to God, just yesterday my friend told my brother that he smelt like tumeric. Guess what he was wearing...Arabie!!! I can definitely smell a big presence of tumeric in Arabie...I guess that's why I couldn't wear it, so I gave it to my brother. He sure does have a thing for spicy, foody Lutens!

What is funny is I tested Arabie yesterday. I wasn't thinking about turmeric then. (I did also cook a curry last night; maybe that suggested it). At any rate, I checked all 59 reviews and no mention of it, for what it's worth!

Bowling Green by Geoffrey Beene has this really prominent saltish spicy accord that could pass off as turmeric. I can't say I'm a fan though I use it in certain dishes.

We are talking about dried turmeric aren't we? For me, that indefinable, dusty horseradish-like accord I experience when I eat turmeric in food (in the mouth) is not really replicated at all in perfumery. Maybe it's an impossible accord for a perfumer to replicate, due to the sensitive molecules in natural turmeric? Whatever the reason, it's not something I've ever smelled.

Fresh turmeric? Well I've never tasted it but from what I've heard its supposed to smell like fresh ginger, but not as strong. Sort of a bit floral, like daffodils.

Spezie is close to the smell of the dried spice, but no cigar. Arabie? Not to my nose.

Lutens Five O'Clock Au Gingembre doesn't smell like turmeric, but has a similar feel. I'm not sure if I can explain what I mean by that.

After reading a few posts on this thread, I thought to myself that Arabie is a likely suspect, then I came upon the post that mentioned this. I used to cook with tumeric and I recently got a decant of Arabie. Even the color is right. I would be very surprised if there is no tumeric (or the major scent molecules) in Arabie.
