This is so expensive, so I better ask before buying

I'm going to make a new order at PCW. But it includes some materials which are less or highly expensive. So I better ask here for your opinion before buying. There is a "Oud Base" at PCW, which is a bit expensive. Does one of you now this base and can tell me how the smell is? Is it nice and helpful? Or is it just a big stink?
Then I want to buy VIOLET LEAF EGYPT ABS, but it is so expensive. It was already recommended to me here. But seeing the price I was wondering if it is just again one of those materials that I buy just for interest and then it sit forever in my collection and I rarely use it. I already have so many green AC. Is it really such a unique must have material?
The last thing is CIVETTONE. I often see this in formulas, but don't have it. But I was really quite shocked seeing the price. What do you think about CIVETTONE, is this a material you really need or can this be replaced by something else?

Violet leaf is expansive as unique and strong. It is very different from all green ac s and green bases. So complex. Often i prefer to use syntethics, for a generic green smell, but in the true blend the Violet leaf can enrich in beauty natural and crazy way. I love it. And need strong dilution because it is very effective in low dosage.

Im anosmic only to one musk: civettone, i dont smell nothing from bottle. But the effect of that musk is very long lasting. I bought it for curiosity but for me is not that useful, for that too high cost, and because there are already essential musks like muscenone muscone etc for that purposes. Just for musk collection.

The only one i can comment on:

Violet Leaf Abs is a very AWESOME material......but its super strong, so you won't need to use much. You dont need PCWs 10gram minimum for this one, and i would suggest it from somewhere else. If you want to try it...Liberty Natural has smaller amounts (4ml for $13 or 7ml for $25)

I can only speak for the violet leaf absolute, but it is a beautiful, classic material which should be in everyone's collection of raw materials if only just for familiarity. It is expensive (if it makes you feel better, its cost from PCW is on the order of PA's and others'), but it is POWERFUL, so a little goes a long, long way. Seriously, the stuff is really strong.

Sometimes i take my violet leaf bottle, go to sofa and smell and smell again for how much I like, it is one of that addictive odor that can send me positive vibe. I bought from Hermitage, 1 ml/11 euro if I remember well.

Agreed. I will often pick up my bottle for a sniff. In fact, I just did.

You can use real civet instead of civettone. Civettone makes up about 16% of real civet and the absolute is considerably cheaper and - obviously - more interesting.

Violet leaf is something I use so often I buy it in bulk. even 0.5g can really naturalise and add radiance to a scent. If you use ionones or methyl ionones its a beautiful modifier. I would hate to be a perfumer without access to violet leaves. Civettone I can live without (as long I have real civet) but violet leaves no.

If you place an order on Fraterworks, I would be happy to send you a small bottle of 10% violet leaf absolute in DPG. I have the very best quality from Floral Concept in France who also supply the finest civet in the world.

Civettone is just a nice macrocyclic musk, but nothing more than that. Same story with muscone. If you will present them and Exaltolide in a double blind test to an untrained person, they will not be able to tell where is which - all three smell more or less as a, hm-hm, fur coat?

Ok, then I order some Violet leaf and skip the civettone. I already have so many different musks. And I do have real civet.

Oh, thank you. That's very generous. You're based in New Zealand, right? Do you actually ship to Germany? I think the customs fees for delivery would be much higher than the delivery is worth. I had the same problem when I ordered something from PellWall. I had to pay more duty than the goods were worth.

Yes - though we ship globally - Germany included. Shipping is free on EU orders over 150 euros, and US orders under $100 USD.
