Thanks for the link, hednic. Kudos to the author for cornering him about the use of synthetic oud.

I wish she had cornered him about his name and the whole Montale mess.
AFAIK COMPTOIR SUD PACIFIQUE was never owned by any Montale.

He was in Russia for a few days, visited all the hugest department stores here.

Very amusing. Montale/Mancera marketing makes the Creeds look like Quakers.
I do wonder what you guys who so commented found "interesting" about the interview?! It's Mister Durrani, I assume, neither a Montale nor a perfumer (Montales are made by lab coats and algorithms, like most other non-artisinal niche) reiterating the old PR hackery about the firm (nothing but substanceless fluff) and getting caught lying about using natural oud. Y'all remember this, right?

Do you really find that pile of garbage "interesting" or is this some Basenotes prank I was not notified about?

To be frank I was trying to hold my tongue.

While I like some of their perfumes, Montale comes across as a shady company to me with its murky history, the UAE vs. French Montale debate (can't even recall if this was the same as the Durrani vs. Atmeh row or yet another episode), and the fact that they pump out so many that one has to wonder whether any good release is just a statistical outlier more than anything else.

I was hoping before opening the link (naive I know) it would be a good interview at last with the actual perfumer of Black Aoud (a composition I greatly love and respect), but turns out that it's more of the same as earlier - with Montale possibly having changed their 'hush up' marketing model to coming out in the open.

I'm glad he was cornered about the 'natural oud' falsehood, good work by the interviewer. I don't understand why they need to be so pretentious, they can simply admit what they do - not that it changes the compositions in any case (same with Creed). However, I bet a lot of people are sucked into these fragrances precisely because of such high and mighty but false claims (same as Creed), and nobody would want to do themselves the disservice of honest admission when false marketing can rake in the dough.

Now you have my explanation above. :D

I repeat my earnest question: is it just a general expression of courtesy to the original poster or do those of you who state they "enjoyed" this "interesting" article actually mean that? In the latter case I'd be very curious to know what you liked about that piece, because it seems to contain no real information about the company, its owners or its perfumes. It is just PR talk. On what level is that interesting or enjoyable? I need to understand this, fer real.

My god, yes. This clown says he has formal training at a lab which legitimizes him in some way and yet cannot remember the name of the lab? This, among other things, makes this a rediculous fluff-piece interview.

It is like any thing else. People who like a brand like to read about it.
My friend is an apple fiend. He has all their products.
He reads about Apple products, rumors all day long. If Google comes out with something new it is crap design and then if Apple does same thing it is Mana from heaven ( bigger screen, fingerprint scanner at back etc)
I have another friend who loves Audi. The whole VW environment destroying fraud did nothing to his brand loyalty ( iirc this year VW was voted the best car brand).
This is human nature.
Many on this forum love Montale and so this is interesting for them.

Nice interview, thanks Hednic. Also enjoyed the thread and, last but certainly not least, the picture of the man and his jacket.

EVGENIYA: So, you mean that in all Montale and Mancera fragrances there is natural oud?
PIERRE: Yes, natural.

Even said with a straight face, no doubt. :rolleyesold:
