That's Oliver Reed.

Wow, I didn't recognize him either. It's hard to remember that he was once so hunky, back in the days of Women In Love.

Remember how controversial the erotic fig-eating lesson was in that movie? Not to mention the homoerotic naked wrestling scene between Reed and Alan Bates

Alan Bates might deserve his own beefcake entry here. I was quite madly in love with him when I was a teenager.

Great reactions on those guests. I’m having intrusive thoughts about memorizing that speech and delivering it at a dull party.

Bates definitely deserves an entry here. Those two are beautiful men and of course the wrestling and firelight makes me think of the black attic amphora wrestlers.

Yeah, but he still looks pretty formidable. Nice inguinal crease, though. (That's going to be my new catchphrase.)

What do you say, ladies: do you find these ultra-chiselled bodies attractive? Maybe it's because I grew up in a time when almost no men sculpted their bodies, but to me they just don't look, as Purecaramel put it, snugglable. A lean body can be attractive, but these guys who overdo the muscles have the same effect on me that cosmetic surgery does.
Late to this question but if I'm objectifying - I like everything from really skinny and tall, to strong and fit and slightly padded. Yes fitness model body type looks good to me, both male and female, the lean and strong but not over-muscled. And I'm kinda old too but can say that it's the guys who take reasonably good care of themselves who look better as old guys. Second best looking is lifelong skinny guys who never really got into or out of shape, LOL.

And no, I don't put fitness in the same category as plastic surgery. What can be achieved through effort is admirable to me and makes you more like you naturally are. Taking what you have and making the best of it. I'll never be curvy naturally, right? Short guys won't be tall, builds and faces vary so much. That natural variation is cool and beautiful, plastic surgery (while I do think an unnatural ideal of beauty is a very democratic sort of ideal) pulls everyone toward looking the same and is not really so attractive.

Who is this delightfully brawny and hirsute individual, may I ask? I don’t recognize him.
Teardrop has it right. Oliver Reed.
Although I shared his body type I was Blue-eyed Ice. Would have killed for those Dark Brooding Eyes and his swarth and brawn.
The first time I read JTD's Bel Ami review my mind saw Oliver Reed.
Another one of his contemporaries was Alan Bates who carried a similar swagger.

Ladies of Basenotes, how about a little fun picking a scent we'd like to imagine on some of our favorite public men? (Keeping it SFW, of course.)

My choices in men have always tended toward the gangly and offbeat, with extra points for prominent noses and jawlines. A lifelong crush of mine has been Jeff Goldblum; I liked him in both his young and long-haired days...

...and like him even better now that he's grizzled and gray:

In either incarnation, I like to imagine him wearing Encre Noir a L'Extreme. 💓

Lol and love it, but I think he would smell great in your wear of the day: Ummagumma!

I think Keanu Reeves seems like a kind hearted person and that’s very appealing. What scent would you pick for him?
He's admirable. And is actually very good looking through all the stages of his life besides being a very kind, nice and hardworking person. He's not a natural born acting talent like some, but the way he has vastly improved through the years and all the work he is always putting into his stunts and action scenes are just amazing.

I would think about something understated, clean yet very simple for him: maybe something like CK One, maybe any simple white musk or a citrus. I somehow don't think he'd go for the very luxurious fragrances.

I bet he either doesn't wear fragrance, or wears something just like, quotidien. That said, I could see him in a leather perfume, to go with that jacket. Leather Man by Jeffrey Dame was actually amazing, and alas, is no more.
Ahhh, Keanu Reeves, my favorite fantasy man as I move towards middle age.
I love that he can make fun of himself in movies, AND I wish some celebrities would pop into this thread, like "wow, they're talking about how they want me to smell now? Weird!" 🤣 It's gotta be a weird life, being famous.

Nice hands though. Reminiscent of my own. That would be the only part of my corpus similar.
Tricips and Biceps are impressive, however would I want to snuggle up?Neh!
Now Angela Bassett or Serena it's a different story.
Oh those thighs!
Jubilation 25 all the way.

I recall reading that his preferred scents are/were Cuiron Pour Homme by Helmut Lang and Helmut Lang EDP.

Ok, I hate to disappoint, but I call mega airbrushing here. Zoom in on that stomach. Not real. We all gonna have some less smooth skin at 57!!😅

Ok how about this one from his Twitter account? (Linked so you can zoom in—

I agree with you both -- the beach photo looks airbrushed, but the belly skin in the kitchen photo looks appropriately wrinkled. (But now I do suspect his hair is dyed. Just too perfectly black.) And oh, that inguinal crease above the jeans.

And he’ll make you an espresso!!!!

That was the first thing I noticed! So nice to see a simple moka pot instead of a jillion-dollar machine.

But my favorite thing was the leopard print shirt. I wonder why animal prints became the exclusive province of women? More men should wear them!

Lol. Wow, sunglasses in the kitchen. I guess the night before was epic.
Yeah, that Twitter photo shows me the skin I expect on a 57 year old belly. Not that his 6 pack doesn't look perfectly nice, but let's be honest: moisture retention and gravity are issues at 57 and you just don't look like 17 or 27 anymore. Which is fine! But I'm not going to drool over airbrushing. I refuse on principle. If women's photos get called out over it, so should men's.
Also, I prefer to know that celebrities are men and women, not plastic gods and goddesses. It's nice.
Also - up all night? I hope to god he showers! (perfume thread realness!) 😂
Also - yaaas leopard print shirt!
Also - I think his hair color is his own.
Also - enough critique of Lenny Kravitz. Poor man didn't do anything to deserve it. 🤣

Somebody scent up Robert Redford, circa 1975 for me, please. I have a truly uncontrollable thing for 70’s Redford. (Slightly less so for Gene Hackman but boy was he hunky too, early on)

Gosh, it's hard to believe he's 85 now. He's been the beau idéal of manly American independence for my entire life, on the same track as Paul Newman. Quite a run he had in the '70s, wasn't it? The Way We Were, The Sting, Three Days of the Condor, All the President's Men, The Electric Horseman... all in the span of just six years. I think my preference is for The Sting, partly because of the 1930s fashions, and partly because who doesn't want the double punch of Redford and Newman?

Etienne Aigner by Etienne Aigner 1975

Quintessential unpretentious 1970s American studliness? Kinda have to say Polo (Warner/Cosmair).

I could imagine arguments for both of those, but I think I'm going to have to go with Caswell Massey Number 6, in the belief that Bob himself would have wanted to smell absolutely timeless -- just as the man himself has proven to be.
