Gary Cooper, deeply invested in fashion? That's hard to compute.

I feel about Coop the same way you do about Gregory Peck: perfectly presentable, but never made my heart flutter. Except for maybe in "Ball of Fire", where the incomparable Barbara Stanwyck lights him up.

I do think we need to put this one in just for @ClockworkAlice -- Timothee Chalmet in his shirtless fancy dress at yesterday's Oscars awards.

He was looking pretty darned cute, and quite the dandy.

Do you want to pick a perfume for him, Alice?

While we're waiting for Alice, I'll suggest the original Dior Homme—though I'm rather hoping Chalamet will prove to have a better drydown.

Mmm, iris. I'm torn between wanting something like Musc Rav or MKK, a rumbling animalic, or something clean, cool but ineffably edible, Lutens Vetiver Oriental.

Or, oh...Oud Ispahan? I could see him in a barnyardy rose.

What do you think she needs to wear? I have my own ideas, but I'll hold them for a moment so as not to sway your judgement!

I was thinking maybe we needed a cheesecake thread, but this will do! ;)

To be honest it's getting hard to think about fragrances at this point!😀

Dior Homme is a nice choice.

I can also see a subtle leather. I sampled Leather Iris by Theodoros Kalotinis the other day, and that one seems to fit! (It smells like it sounds mainly)

With twin nods to a) what she does to Gary Cooper in that movie, and b) her late life career as a western frontierswoman, I'm going to suggest the floral leather Lasso by Jean Patou.

I shudder to think how quickly such a thread in the men's forum might become wildly inappropriate. 😧

I think he looks absolutely adorable but I did see this photo posted with the caption “Look! this poor child forgot to wear his shirt!,” and I am still chuckling over that.

I feel he needs to wear something very Dandy-ish. How about drenching him in Après L’Ondée?

Inappropriate, as in somebody might have to create an actual men's perfume forum to contain it!

(You will notice that I did not say gentlemen's...) ;)

Ummm, probably. I think there are many here mature enough to keep it fun, but some.....

This is a fun thread. I think it offers a unique perspective into the unpredictable nature of both which men attract women, and which scents they would match to those men.

I just adore Barbara Stanwyck. Lasso would be a great choice for her overall. For her role as Sugarpuss O’Shea in Ball of Fire (1941), I might pick Jungle Gardenia.

I think I might reserve the Jungle Gardenia for her femme fatale role in Double Jeopardy.

What a year 1941 was for Stanwyck. Ball of Fire, The Lady Eve, and the big drama Meet John Doe, three films every movie lover should see. And then just three years later, the imperishable noir Double Jeopardy. Whatta gal. She's by far my favorite actress of the classic Hollywood period.

Rather than that, but in a very similar vein, I could see him wearing En Passant.

I take your point. Jungle Gardenia is better for her as a femme fatale. I should note (perhaps not for the first time,) that I suggested seeing Double Indemnity to my DH on our first date, at Theater 80 St. Mark's on the Lower East Side. It boggles my mind that I thought seeing Barbara Stanwyck eat Fred MacMurray alive was a good First Date Movie. Luckily, my husband is a brave man.

Okay, what do you think of a spicy carnation scent such as Lelong's Indiscret (1937) for Sugerpuss O'Shea?

And how about for her shapeshifting role in The Lady Eve? (One of the funniest movies I know.) I don't know why, but I'm thinking Guerlain--Mitsouko? Shalimar? Or would it be No. 5 parfum?

Nah.
Stanwyck was a Badass Chick with a Whip.
Tabac Blond Extrait would be the appropriate with this
Beautiful Woman. Strong, Elegant, Sexy.

Haha! I'm inclined to think you were trying to impress him with your excellent taste in movies, or else you wanted to show him that you were not anyone to be trifled with.

Purr-fect.

It was pre-War, so the Guerlains would probably be more appropriate. Or maybe a Patou... they were on a cruise ship, so something like Colony or Cocktail.
