Hello all,

I don't see much love for this house on basenotes. Long story short, this is a house with a focus on natural ingredients and is based in Australia (and therefore, the house is not limited by IFRA etc)

I am just about to explore my first Teone Reinthal fragrance, Nightsong.

Any fans of the house? Any favourites?

"Somehow you have been transported to the tiled courtyard of a Sufi temple as the Qawwali singers are about to start. The tablas begin, the harmonium starts and the fragrance of champaca blossoms drifts in, carried on the humid evening breeze as the moon rises. Incense and spices rise in time with the drums… and an otherworldly dream fragrance rises like a wave of mystery, hauntingly beautiful. Night Song is multi-faceted; a multi-dimensional textured encounter. They do. You can purchase smaller size bottles/decants too.

No retail presence to the best of my knowledge, online only, but shipping is very easy and takes a day once shipped.

Website is being re-done to support more international customers.

I didn't end up playing around with Nightsong yet, I got distracted last night and want a solid few hours of downtime to assess it in. Looking forward to it tonight!

She is having some trouble getting her website squared away for int’l customers but will hopefully get that squared away soon.

I own Night Song which is just as good (if not better) than any Areej or Bortnikoff fragrance IMO. I also own Arjuna which was a collaboration with Nikhil (Perfume Guru)...probably the best citrus blossom fragrance I’ve smelled.

I have reviews of many of her creations, but she has made some new ones and has slightly reformulated some classics for improvement. If anyone is interested, I’d be glad to share them.

Interestingly enough, only two of the perfumes I've tried are listed here in Basenotes: Night Song and Dragonboat, which I posted.

A complete group of my reviews is under the Trnp thread at Ouddict.com, which may give folks that are interested a better idea of what she offers.

Hopefully, Basenotes will update her offerings upon the launch of her new line/website.

My reviews in one convenient place...please feel free to ask any follow-up questions:

Attar of Roses: Damascus rose, mysore sandal, patchouli, cypress, fir needle, and amyris

I will be honest, I don't like Damascus rose usually, but somehow I managed to still like this one pretty much. The sandal, amyris, patchouli and other notes were there but in a more supporting role as a woodier, but mildly sweet sandal/amyris (not super creamy) with a dry spiciness from the patch (no mintiness) and some green tinges from cypress and fir that were almost acting as one note. Folks, I got a high quality portrait of a lady vibe. The rose wasn't too piercing and citrusy...it was more delicate, round, pink, and a little rose-watery, but still very prevalent. Performance was very good...very strong for the first three hours with great sillage that followed me around. After that, it still projected 6-8" until hour 7-8 when it finally started to disappear. Very impressive for an all natural perfume, but the color would suggest this was pretty highly concentrated. Overall, I would not personally rush out to buy this one because I still don't love that particular kind of rose, but I would be very pleased to get this as a gift.

Black Spruce: Oakmoss, Vietnamese Oud, Black Spruce, Amyris, Sandalwood, Frankincense, Rose Otto, Vetiver, Birch Tar and Ruh Khus.

I was bowled over by this one. It's a complex, foresty green fragrance with tinges of rose that transforms into a deeply resinous Oudy fragrance. That's right, lots of Vietnamese Oud! It lasted 10 hours on me and I could very clearly smell myself throughout the day. Her blending is really interesting with some individual notes being highlighted, while others are combined with each other into a really nice "chord." This is one I need in my collection eventually.

Nefertum: Amyris, Frankincense, Myrrh, Mysore Sandalwood, Cardamon, Cinnamon, Blue Lotus, Styrax absolute and Labdanum.

This one really spoke to me. The amount of Blue Lotus in there was impressive. Add to that a hefty dose of not too creamy Mysore and a greatest hits of other oriental notes.
The beginning was spicy with cardamom and sweet cinnamon. The lotus quickly followed with its slightly medicinal/indolic nuances, but still sweet and floral. There was a whisper of the frank and myrrh. The middle wear sported more myrrh, but the main star was the Amyris-Sandal combo that I notice as a signature for her. Creamy, but not too much, with a nice woodiness. The labdanum started creeping in creating and old feeling leatheriness. The long drydown is an Amber accord with the sweet benzoin leveling out the Labdanum. Really gave an ancient Egypt feel. One of my top favorites.

Arjuna (a collab with Perfume Guru): Neroli, hand-tinctured Orange Jessamine blossom (kinda like a kumquat), Mysore Sandalwood, Green Tea

I immediately got the almost soapy clean blast of Neroli. Seconds later, the orange jessamine showed up and sweetened the Neroli, toning down the squeaky cleanness. It was really surprising how potent and photorealistic the citrus blossoms were. It really was like having a nectared blossom bunch right under your nose. Maybe about half an hour later, the green tea showed up, imparting a nice, delicate greenness to support the blossoms. The tea actually creates the accord of the faint greenness of the leaves and twigs in the background, rather than a snapped chlorophyllic green twig pushing the blossoms out of the way. Tea is such an underrated note. About 4-5 hours in, the Mysore just barely started to show itself. Ms. Reinthal really balanced it well, because it just gave the blossoms a nice rounded hint of creaminess. It never became more than that. I can still very clearly smell this on myself nine hours later and that's all I need.

Dragonboat :Osmanthus, Honeysuckle, Green Tea.

This is about as basic as a fragrance gets. Normally, I’m all about complex fragrances, so I was curious to see if I would still enjoy it. I definitely did. This is the most nectared sweet florals in a fragrance I’ve encountered. Honeyed, fruity and just lovely. Nothing indolic at all. The green tea just sits in the background and as Ms. Reinthal describes in her write-up, it imparts a cooling, green effect.This stays pretty linear, but towards the end of the wear, the nectared sweetness tones down and the almost woodiness of the green tea amplifies.
The performance was great as all of them have been thus far. Much like Arjuna, it smelled like a fresh bouquet of florals right under your nose.

Ritual: Lemon, Tuberose, pink lotus, Tobacco, Sandalwood

In the opening you get a slightly waxy sweet n sour lemon, which is quickly followed by Tuberose, which is quickly followed by Pink lotus. The sweet, yet slightly indolic floral combo plays very well with the lemon. It really is kinda sexy...even smelling it on myself lol. About an hour in the Tobacco becomes apparent and creates a smooth, “brown” tone contrasting the high pitched lemony fresh sweet florals. About three to four hours in, the slightly salty-buttered/woody sandal becomes noticeable. Finally, between 6-8 hours the sandal is a bit more prominent over the tobacco and the florals are just a whisper. After about 4 hours this one sits a bit closer to the skin, but is still noticeable.

Irises: Bergamot, Jasmine Grandiflorum, Virginian Cedarwood, Orris root, Violet leaf, oakmoss, labdanum, patchouli and Mysore sandalwood

This one is like you’re transported back to the 70’s and grabbed a brand spanking new bottle of Bal A Versailles minus the aldehyde and civet. Lots of real Bergamot, Orris butter, and Oakmoss. When my vintage Bal bottle runs out, I’m buying this.

Energique: Bergamot, cypress, Virginian cedarwood, Somali frankincense, Mysore sandalwood, Sumatran patchouli, elemi, vetiver and fir needle

This is an excellent woody-chypre that sports a bright juicy bergamot that is followed by a nice green, but woody combo of cypress and cedar. In the heart, the frankincense and elemi are paired up very nicely to form a citrusy, resinous-ness that continues the brightness after the bergamot subsides. The Mysore begins to appear and adds a slight creamy-woodiness that opens the door for the patchouli, vetiver and fir to take things home. The fir seemed the most prominent of the combo on my skin and was a nice departure from the normal Oakmoss ending to most chypres. The projection was a bit more "loud" than some of her others, but not overbearing. The longevity was also great, as usual. I love chypres and "foresty" fragrances, so this was also a love for me.

Petit Brise: Petit Grain, Night blooming jasmine, Mysore Sandalwood

I was a little worried about this one due to the petit grain. Ms. Reinthal kept it doable for me somehow. The petit grain was more citrusy/woody than it was green and chlorophyllic and it didn't overpower anything. The jasmine in this is beautiful...white, narcotic, powerful, just the slightest hint of indole to keep it interesting. After about 3 hrs, the light touch of mysore comes in and just makes things slightly creamy, rounder and sweeter as the long drydown goes on and on...Fans of orientals who need a freshie in their collection would really like this i believe. I wouldn't mind having it myself, but I already bought a nice stock of Arjuna, which isn't too different in style

Kodama: Hand-tinctured Murraya Blossoms, Egyptian Geranium, Orange Blossom, Vietnamese Oud, Mysore Sandalwood, hand-tinctured Tonka beans, Ambrette Seed and Woods accord of Cedarwood, Cypress, Spruce and Fir Needle

From the beginning, you are met with the sweet, floral-citrusiness of the murraya blossom. Supporting this is the green-woody hum of her woods “chord” that lasts through the entire experience. A soft geranium appears and then orange blossom, which continues with the floral-citrusiness. The orange blossom sticks around for quite a while and just continues to get slightly sweeter as the warm tonka bean and Mysore set in. The beautiful Vietnamese Oud begins to show itself, but is a bit more reserved and blended-in than the Oud in Black Spruce. An earthy nuttiness accents the Oudiness with the addition of Ambrette seed. This Oudy earthiness and the green woody accord finish out the very long wear.

Night song: Champaca, Pink Lotus, Mysore Sandalwood, Indian oud, Vietnamese oud, Myrrh, Frankincense, Labdanum, Vanilla and Tobacco.

This one opens with a quite strong combo of “grape kool-aid” champaca, hay/leather toned Indian Oud and pink lotus. Shortly following, a myrrh and frankincense combo appears. About an hour or so in, a dry tobacco emerges, which combines really well with the incense to lend a subtly sweet spiciness to the mix. After a few hours, the Indian Oud starts to die down and the resinous Vietnamese oud starts to take over in its stead. The champaca and lotus are still there, but more subdued. Towards the end of the very long wear, the labdanum and vanilla combine to form a nice amber accord, supporting the smooth Oudiness. The Sandalwood must have been hiding deep in there somewhere because I didn’t pick it up. Super potent and exceptional.

I placed a blind order for a 30ml of Black Spruce which was endlessly hyped up to me in some oud forums a while back. The collection looks really interesting, but it's one of those whose size is a little intimidating, especially as there is seemingly very little word on the house.
I will report back as soon as it gets here!

I'm close to ordering the Four Mukhallats option from her. You get four 5ml choices from her Oud collection. I'm going to go with Black Spruce, Bulgakov, Kodama, and Tallemaja. Junior_Surgeon has been talking up a storm about Black Spruce and how it's become one of his favorite coniferous frags ,and he's the reason I started looking to order.

This house has some nice fragrances. I have a few bottles and a few samples. The range of fragrances is massive and that makes it hard to decide. I find that I either hate them or I either love them and there is nothing in between.
