I started early yesterday with a scent that does not smell very carefree, but it does smell happy and brings joy with its lush and sweet, almost jammy floralcy - a very sultry jasmine scent by Serge Lutens, called Fils de Joie - The Son of Joy - and I find the name very fitting!
I am working from home today, so it was an easy pick for yesterday's evening, because apparently I have to be a little bit careful with wearing this, as while it starts out with pretty and delicious flowers, it can come across a little bit pissy to me in the deep drydown, and let me tell you, this perfume STAYS on skin and hair. I have showered and washed my hair in the morning and put on my joyful scent of the day afterwards, but I still can get some jasmin-y whiffs from time to time! I do love this scent, especially the opening, but I do not dare to impose it on my poor colleagues and friends! May this one be my personal joy, okay?

I'm also wearing Fils de Joie - the name lends itself to the sync, obviously, and so does the smell, in its own crazy way. Huge, enveloping mounds of florals and honey, like a sticky floral explosion raining fragrant goo in every direction. Maybe not casual or easy-wearing, but more of a hedonistic romp - carefree in the IDGAF sense.

I don't get the pissy aspects on my skin, thankfully - I wonder if that's the honey note? I have found if I spray heavily the jasmine can go a little bit indolic, and the musk in the base gets a whiff of animalic funk. Definitely not a wallflower scent! I know I've come a long way on my fragrance journey when I can wear this (as a guy) without blinking.

Eventually chose to sync with Capucci PH: quite decent as a summer evening choice, fresh, cheerful yet also not lacking a certain simple, clean cut yet also gentlemanly stylish classic elegance.
Maybe comparable to an enjoyable afternoon/evening during a tasteful vacation in a stunning Mediterranean setting.

I went with Womanity because I do enjoy it. My husband hates it, but he is out of town.
Unfortunately, it will be an 18 hour commitment.

I have 75% of a full bottle. I have to be in the mood for it. I have a 3.4 oz / 100ml refill bottle, but I don’t think I need it anymore, with so many perfumes. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think I’m gonna put it on eBay so I can explore some more new things.
Anyway, it does make me happy!

Yay, other Fils de Joie fans ! I think the stinky facet has to be jasmine. Yep

Cuir de Chine by Les Indémodables
When you crush real osmanthus flowers in your hand, they smell like pulpy apricot, dried black tea leaves, and fawn-colored suede. That right there makes me truly happy -- not in a giddy way, but in a dreamy one.
I really, really want to try that!
There's a shop that sells Les Indémodables in Brussels and I've pegged it for my next visit...

Cuir de Chine is definitely worth sampling, especially if you like osmanthus. The pale background note of blonde tobacco makes it stand out from other osmanthus I've tried.

There's something in the "house base" of Les Indemodables perfumes that I don't like, but Cuir de Chine is one I've done a reversal on after sampling it repeatedly over a span of two years. At first I thought it was too wan, but I've learned that it is much more prominent in its sillage than it is when you press your nose to your own skin.

It was a blast reading all your happy and joyful choices!
And now, for upcoming Friday...

June 16 - Aha! Day: What perfume/note(s) were your 'aha' moment?
The notes that particularly resonate with you.

There are a few different ways to think about this.
The most obvious one is looking for that particular moment when something clicked in your head, and wear a perfume or a scent with a note that made you understand or 'get' something. Maybe it's that particular scent that made you "YES, APPARENTLY I DO LOVE WHITE FLOWERS", or "WOOH, THIS IS AN AQUATIC I CAN ACTUALLY WEAR", or "WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA, SO I DO LIKE PINK SCENTS NOW?!!", or maybe you started to understand something, like - OKAY, NOW I SEE WHY THIS STUFF IS A CLASSIC AFTER ALL, or OOOH, SO THAT'S WHAT A FOUGERE IS, or AHHH, SO PATCHOULI CAN SMELL A LOT LIKE CHOCOLATE, WHAT, or MY DEAR, THAT'S SO DIRTY AND I ACTUALLY LIKE IT, OH MY OH MY...

Or maybe that's a scent that made you realize something about your preferences in other areas - maybe you did smell that Acqua di Gio or White Shoulders or Coco Mademoiselle on someone and felt that this is the human of your life? Or maybe that was 1 Million or one of those Baccarat Rouge knockoffs or a very well aged very rare and very loud oud scent and you felt that this person is not for you? :D

Or maybe that's the last sentence of this prompt - a note that particulatly resonates with you? If so, tell us why and how it makes you feel :)

Tell us your story, because this is storytime, my smelly darlings!

I love this theme! I have 2 stories from the white flower division:

1: Tuberose. I had an encounter with Carnal Flower early in my fragrance hobby that really put me off this flower and white flowers in general. Then I tried Hiram Green's Moon Bloom, and I loved it! And it's not really a beginner's version of this note, but for some reason it clicked.

2: Lily. I hated the scent of lilies in real life. If they were in a bouquet, I would take them out. And then I met Lys Mediterranee. First, in passing, when visiting a perfume store. The SA sprayed it on me even though I proclaimed I probably would not like it, as I disliked white flowers AND aquatic notes. I liked it, but did not really think much of it. Then later, I tried it again and fell head over heels for it. Now, it's my favourite scent in my wardrobe and I actually love the scent of lilies in real life as well.

I am going to say heliotrope, it was my love of the classic Guerlains and the Guerlainaide note. I found out by accident that the warm note in it was heliotrope. So I started looking for fragrances that were heliotrope by name, not just as a note in a collection of notes. Crown Perfumery which had been discontinued, but I found a few of them on a website at £2.50 a bottle, but the Heliotrope only as samples I bought 20. I have tried a number of Heliotrope fragrances over the years, the closeness to the Crown was LTPiver and Etro. Not sure if the Etro has been reformulated, as I still own the original release.

So Friday is going to be Etro Heliotrope.

Always love the way you introduce those weeks' themes ! That's so entertaining and I'm sure it really helps us dive deeper into our wardrobes, memories, creativity, etc... ! Thanks ! 😁

It made me think about a few options :

- When I started getting interested into fragrances... I went to some kind of Sephora with a list of fragrances to try. I remember M7 Oud Absolu (YSL) intrigued me as it smelled different from what most other people were wearing. It probably helped me go further down the rabbit hole ! 🐇

- I also tried Déclaration d'un soir (Cartier) that time, and even if it smelled good, I couldn't imagine wearing a fragrance as rosey as this one ! A few years later, things have changed and some of those 'pink scents' are now among my favorites... thinking about Lumière Noire Homme (MFK). 🌹

- There's also Aqva pour Homme (Bvlgari)... that I received as a gift way before I started my scented journey, when I was barely wearing any fragrance. I dismissed it for a long time as I owned many other bottles. I just assumed it wasn't that great... until I smelled it again, and it became one of my favorite aquatics. Made me realize it was foolish to act that snobbish ! 😅

- More recently, I got a few patchouli and that chocolate cakey feeling really clicked with me ! Temperatures are high around here, and I don't know if that kind of fragrance would do well in a hot summer day... but I might try !

Labdanum is a relatively recent favourite note of mine (since about 3 years).
Not exactly a summer note, apart from when it's used in the background (to me it represents a gorgeous velvety warmth).

I may wear Rue Cambon (labdanum in the background) during the day and Taklamakan, which to me represents the discovery moment, in the evening.

Other options (for day or evening):
-Beloved Woman Amouage
-Amber Absolutely F & M
-Leather Copper Lalique
-Un Jardin Sur Le Nil Hermès
-Sideris MCG - vintage
-Une Rose Chyprée Tauer
-N°4 Eutopie
-Bois de Gayac Visconti
-L'Arte di Gucci
-Unspoken

Amber. Resinous amber. I remember the first time I smelled it, it was some flanker with amber or ambre. When I smelled it after wearing it a few hours it clicked: I smelled the vintage Trésor, a memory of my 90s teenage years: always a bit too sweet, too mature, but so beautiful. I wanted to smell it, but I didn't want to smell like it. But this time I felt ready and I decided to search for a fragrance that would fit me. I bought Sensuous by Estée Lauder.
I don't remember ever wearing it in the summer: I usually wear it in autumn or winter time. The last few times I put it on, the combination with the sandalwood note made it too cold, too distant, too open to my nose, so I put it away. But who knows, maybe it will shine better in warmer weather. Maybe I'm finally ready.

Seconding @N.CAL Fragrance Reviewer on patchouli. Same for me.

It’s amazing how one could wear patchouli perfumes for most of one’s life yet be oblivious to patchouli: Shalimar, Jicky, Youth Dew, Giorgio for Men, Miss Dior, Dioressence, Aromatics Elixir, Angel—and on and on… I always associated patchouli with goods in Indian shops and it never occurred to me to relate that scent to my perfume.

Then one day a few years ago, on a warm summer’s day, I was waiting at a bus stop alongside the Décarie Expressway. My perfume that day was Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme. I was on the way home. It was the rush hour. Cars and trucks were alternately thundering by or idling in a cloud of exhaust at the red light on the corner. There was a soft breeze and the most beautiful aroma wafted up, roses and—suddenly I got it —“Ahhh, patchouli!” Never to go unidentified since then.

Impressive sync theme again. From a personal viewpoint alone-it was (nearly) anything vintage.
If one of the vintage scents currently owned is chosen for the sync, the likeliness of the respective SOTD containing at least one of not just favorite, but also nearly life changing notes is quite high.

To even further go into details, the current fragrance journey was (without being a vintage snob) shaped and mainly/mostly led to several "AHA" moments by notes like the vintage style of: citrus, cedar and wood in general, also with musk and/or further animalic dominants, (oak) moss, fougeres, spices/gourmands, herbs, tobacco, resins, honey, cypress, pine, mint, fir/coniferous resins, several masculine/unisex florals, vetiver etc.

But other than that, cannot more specifically pinpoint neither the moment nor specific scent (s) with such an effect leading up to such particular moment as it was mostly the "work in progress" led by a multitude of great notes-therefore the scent of choice will thus become as permissive as much as challenging.
