Not sure if this has been done already, but I didn't find previous thread when I searched. I figured there might be a few of you out there who would want to share your shave. While I don't shave daily, I do really enjoy the process and treat it as a moment of reflection and pampering for myself. It's amazing just how great your face can feel when you use quality products. Well, let's see if this gets any traction.

Post-Shave: Alum Block, Declaration Grooming Dirtyver Aftershave Splash, The Ordinary Hylauronic Acid and finally Cremo 24hour Moisturizer

I retried a tube of Neutrogena shave cream last night.
I remember not liking it when I bought it 8 or 9 years ago.
And yes, every stroke dragged terribly with a three blade cartridge razor that until now had glided effortlessly through every other cream and soap on my face.

I thought the Neutrogena cream was a terrible shave .......till I applied some alum, and I had to admit there were no alum stings at all (i.e. no micro-nicks).

Anyhow, I might test it out again in another 8 or 9 years..
Cheers,
Renato

Funny you should ask... just wondering if I can be bothered to shave before dinner. Also wondering if I am brave enough to use my Bluebeard's Revenge Cutlass with its Feather blade. It provides a very close shave but requires a lot of respect. Might stick to the Muhle today. Also using: shaving oil by Bluebeard; Body Shop maca root cream; Trumper's Spanish Leather skin food. Edwin Jagger best badger brush.

Hot shower with AOS Lavender Bar Soap
Zihr Clean face cleanser

Three pass shave with:

AOS Lavender Shave Cream
Shavemac Best Badger Brush
Moss Scuttle
Merkur Barberpole/Feather blade
Dickenson's Witch Hazel
AOS Lavender Balm

I note that second shave on a Feather is always better/smoother than first...

Finish with Caron Third Man

After a shower and a face scrub with the old L’Oréal Men Expert Hydra Energetic Deep Exfoliating Face Scrub, I opted for:

Merkur Futur
Palmolive Classic shaving cream
Semogue 830 boar brush
Wilkinson Sword blade
Crabtree & Evelyn Indian Sandalwood Aftershave Balm

I have two custom brushes with Shavemac 2-band knots and they are far and away my favorite brushes! Nice choices!

Dan, How is the Merkur Futur when it comes to moving around the nose, the head always looked very large and awkward? Sounds like a nice shave!

Because I have extensive knowledge of this subject I would like to add a few minor(or major depending on your MO) suggestions:

1. Steam from a shower or hot towel(opens the pores).

2. A Good Shave Oil(can get a with-the-grain shave closer than without the oil).

3. Stretch the skin especially on the first pass.

These suggestions can turn your usual shave into possibly the best shave of your life.

I have a thread here about the Merkur Futur. I hate it with a passion. The cheap Ming Shi copy of the Futur on Ebay I like better, as it's less aggressive.
Think of the Futur as something not as bad as a shavette.

Which means that some guys love the Futur, and some detest it.
And it's a costly exercise to find out which one you are.

Renato

Hi there. Well that’s a very good and timely question as I actually thought about that during the shave. When I first used the Futur I found shaving just underneath the nose slightly harder due to the large razor head, which probably won’t surprise you, However, I now find it easy. I change the angle slightly and it’s fine. I’m not sure if it helps that I have more of the blade exposed combined with slightly adjusting the angle too? I use the Futur on setting 5 or 6 now for my first pass whereas initially I’d use it on setting 3 at the most.

It’s funny because I’d say 90% of the time I use my Edwin Jagger DE89, which has a significantly smaller head and is a lot milder - still a really efficient razor for me though. However, I do enjoy a shave with the heavier and more aggressive Futur. I take my time a lot more with it but the extra blade exposure against the skin is a strangely enjoyable feeling... I sound so odd I know  It truly does mow down the beard with its weight though.

I agree with what Renato said about it being a polarising razor. You can probably tell I’m definitely in the camp of men who love it. Some of those copies of the Futur do look decent though. Paul H Films on YouTube used the Ming Shi copy and the Futur to do a comparison in one video.

While I was figuring out using the Futur I used to just shave underneath the nose across the grain, which would be as if shaving towards my ears for me.

.

Though I'm more often a cartridge shaver, lately when I do shave DE, I've been reaching more often for either my Edwin Jagger DE89 or the DE87.

As you like the DE89, and somehow like the Futur - I think you'll be impressed with the Ming Shi.
Cheers,
Renato

Dan, I know what you mean about the blade exposure, I'm very much in the same camp. I Typically use milder razors such as the Merkur 34c, Razorock Game Changer .68p, Karve with the B-Plate, but when I use an aggressive one, there's something great about that blade feeling.

Superb three pass shave tonight

Jack Black Face Scrub
Moss Scuttle
Shavemac Best Badger Brush
Geo F Trumpers Violet Shave Cream (w/hot towel pre-soak)
Merkur Barberpole/Feather Blade
Vitaman Mud Masque
Dickinsons Witch Hazel
Pinaud Classic Vanilla Aftershave

Finished off with heavy app of Le Labo Rose 31

Between the towel soak, the scrub and mud mask my face so baby butt smooth it's crazy. Haven't been this slick and soft in months.

Love being a wet shaver on days like this.

Sounds top notch sir! One thing I did with my Pinaud after shaves was decant. I also experimented by adding witch hazel and aloe vera gel to my Classic Vanilla, and wow, what an amazing performing aftershave now. Give it a try if you feel bold sir, I highly recommend it.

Very nice Dan, I bet that was a great shave! I haven't tried any boots products, but I know they are very popular in the UK. Thanks for sharing a picture, I love seeing everyone's shave gear.
