Hi, Folks!

I recently acquired this bottle of perfume. As far as I can tell it looks to be from Renaud Paris 1817 (the date of their founding, not this perfume). Could anyone help me identify if 1) they also believe it to be a Renaud 2) approximate date? 3) do you have an idea of what perfume it might be?

There are two brass caps - an inner and an outer (outer is shown in the picture). Unsure if outer brass cap is original.

Bottom says "Renaud"

I am going to try out the perfume hopefully this week or next. It still smells good....

Thanks!

Any light you can shed on this would be appreciated.

The last three letters show “DEE” and the picture on the bottom looks like an orchid, which would suggest the name “Orchidée” (Orchid). Don’t know if there were any ither words, of course.

Thank you so much! That makes sense. Also the juice inside when I take a whiff smells resinous (in a good way) and I can't wait to try it.

What a great find! Have you seen Grace Hummel’s blogpost on Renaud’s perfumes? Full of great information and photos…

If it is Orchidee, as Fiveoaksbouquet has perceptively suggested, it sounds like a humdinger:

Orchidee, was one of their best selling perfumes. In a 1929 advertisement, Renaud describes it as "One trembling drop of this rare exotic fragrance brings all the allure of far-off isles of the South Seas, the thrill of the forests and trackless jungles, the fascination of the desert oasis. Price $60 per bottle."

Ahem, it would be, especially in the UK. ;)

But “slag glass” is just the name for opaque pressed glass.
@sagebrush, so sorry didn't mean to be offensive. I asked my husband just now about the meaning (he's Australian) - imagine the scene - gathered after dinner in our lounge room, our small child playing and I ask him that question. I knew something was up when he kept asking "In what context" and was loathe to answer (I looked it up on the computer - and pointed to ask if that was correct - he nodded).

My husband then asked me "Where are you coming across that word". Then I let him know that I was the one using it!

Now that I know what that means, I heartily agree that would be an incredibly unfortunate name for a perfume. I should have perhaps put that differently.

Grayspoole is exactly right.

I'm familiar with the term from a hobby (porcelain painting - my friends would also slag glass and make things in the kiln). I didn't realize it had an alternate meaning.

Oh, I've gotten a good laugh out of all of this and so has my husband.

Best wishes to all :D

I did see the post - and it threw me off a bit that the bottle was red instead of purple. And I absolutely can't wait to try it. It smells promising, just opening the bottle. I appreciate all the help. Thank you and @FiveoaksBouquet
