Recommendation for a Mukhallat with dominant Oud/Sweet Vanilla/Caramel notes?

Can anyone recommend an oud oil blend that is both dark and sweet? Vanilla, Caramel, Boozy notes are great. Preferably unisex or feminine leaning. (I've noticed the oils marketed specifically for females tend to be too light for me.)

Thanks!

Taj Noir by Agarwood Assam is an excellent choice. The opening is a bit like red port wine on a bed of creamy benzoin, animalic vanilla, Mysore sandalwood, and Hindi Oud. It’s sweet and borderline gourmand at times but is dark as night and heavy on incense.

Zakir is known for making some of the best attars in the game and this one doesn’t stray too far into the overly skanked out Hindi territory.

The variation on this by Abdul Samad al Qurashi combines great quality with good value and outstanding performance, with versatility for either gender as well-also skillfully achieving a certain balance between spicy and leathery (not necessarily animalic) with distinctively sweet floral notes

This sounds divine! Is this the one you are referring to? https://www.naazperfumes.com/product/attar-taj-noir-1g

Is there a seller in the US?

You should definitely check out Mellifluence on Etsy.

https://www.etsy.com/market/mellifluence

Abdullah blends EXCELLENT attars/mukhallats using oud and non-oud bases, focusing almost exclusively on natural ingredients and isolates. Also, the price points are very friendly. Many of his blends are also gourmand leaning. I would suggest Amendla for a sweet, almond and booze scent. You will love his work based on your original post.

I’m currently awaiting 3 of his attars! They should be here tomorrow night. I feel like Brandewijn might be a solid choice for what she’s looking for based on the notes. I’m really excited to get my nose on these.

Which three did you purchase? Which are some of your favorites?

I have three more recommendations:

https://www.etsy.com/shop/BakhoorStoreIncense

Message Munira and ask for for a recommendation based on what you are looking for. She created a Cambodi-based Civet musk mukhallat for me that is to die for. All dried fruits, smoke, and gentle funk.

https://www.etsy.com/shop/ScentsbySkanda?ref=search_shop_redirect

Contact Justin and ask him as well. His black musk supreme oud sounds like it fits the bill, but he has many many more options, all affordable.

https://www.etsy.com/shop/AgarscentsBazaar?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=557846528

Huge store with a long history and good reputation. Big range in prices. I really like his agar musk and amber al oudh. Very affordable and very high quality.

These three, together with Mellifluence, are some of my favorite artists w/r/t mukhallats (mixed attars and ouds). I know a lot of people like Elixir Attars and Sultan Pasha, but they are very pricey. These are good alternatives.

From the scent lines by this brand, this is the closest to the variation (from the wooden box to the specific notes requested) personally owned and enjoyed:

Dayna I usually just talk to Zakir on Instagram for his attars and oils. He’s also one half of Dixit and Zak. Neither Agarwood Assam or D&Z have distributors but once the Etsy goes live after the lockdown you can see a full selection.

Oh dude they’re absolutely stunning.

Brandewijn is this boozy, rum on the rocks with a cherry on the side Attar that is both sweet and floral yet manages to stay resinous while simultaneously drying down to a dry woods, smooth as silk oud pillow. He uses linden flower absolute in the opening and it’s to die for. He also uses a hefty dose of Oud Yaqoub that provides this hella oud’y heart that just oozes sensuality. There’s a nice vanillic incense sweetness underlying everything. Overall it’s extremely pleasing and the drydown lasts forever. I highly recommend it especially since it wears well in warmer weather. The fruits and florals in the opening never become cloying and the sweetness is just light enough that it feels uplifting.

Al Ghaliya III Is already sold out but he might have more. Al Ghaliya is like the perfect incense/Oud/musk Attar. He uses house made tinctures of Siberian and Kashmiri Deer musk, castoreum, civet, and ambergris but the fragrance never feels animalic. In fact the musk provides this light and uplifting quality to an otherwise Jasmine, Musk Rose, and Oud combo. The sillage smells like a room that just finished burning nag champa and is filled with roses. It’s fantastic. There’s a slight citrus floral quality to the opening that is blasted with beautiful musk. The ambergris creates a soft ambery bed for everything to lay on. It’s one of my favorites.

Plasencia is one of my favorite cigar aromas I’ve ever smelled. It straight up smells like raw tobacco leaf due to the Nicaraguan cigar absolute he created for this. There’s animalic warmth from benzoin, vanilla absolute and Naga Oud that creates this furry pipe tobacco feel in the heart that transitions into pure tobacco leaf and Oud in the drydown. After several hours the far drydown reveals a resinous, jammy, dark plum and dried fruit Oud compliments of the Naga Oud. This is sweet, resinous, slightly earthy in the opening and full on tobacco for the heart and drydown. If you love tobacco scents this one is a top contender period.

Hellicum is the only Attar I didn’t really care for. It’s all lavender and black pepper up top which has a slight camphorous feel to it that is not quite my style. If you love lavender forward fragrances especially of the natural variety you’ll love this. If you own lavender oil of any kind you’ll know exactly what the opening smells like. It’s simple and I don’t get much tobacco even though it’s centered around tobacco absolute. It’s still a great scent it’s just alittle too camphorous for my liking. The Oud is well hidden but I’ll need more wearings to really decide if I like it or not.

Overall these are excellently blended and I’d recommend you at least sample what he has to offer because Abdullah strictly cates about quality over money. He keeps his prices low because he wants us to genuinely experience the happiness that perfumery brings him and it shows. These attars could easily fetch premium dollars yet he offers them pretty much at cost of the materials. He’s a rare gem in perfumery that I hope he gets every bit of success he deserves.
