i'm sitting here eating guacamole, and i thought. i wonder if there are any avocado perfumes. or if there is such a thing as avocado flower. what would an avocado even smell like in fragrance form?

my tangent to that is, are there any perfumes designed to smell disgusting, kind of like the bertie botts every flavored beans from harry potter? does demeter make, like, a rotten egg fragrance?

silly.

Crabtree and Evelyn has a line of Avocado body creams, lotions and butters that smell wonderful, imo. Very fresh, rather like water greenery, if that makes any sense. Sort of like a cousin to cucumber.

The Avocado soap has been discontinued. I have a dozen bars in stockpile and plan to limit myself to one each summer. :(

Girl, you are too much!! Can't wait to see what The Knowledgable Noses have to say about this one.

My first reaction is that no frags are deliberately designed to be disgusting (bad marketing ploy) but reading reviews just here on BN shows that a Phew!! reaction is common. Not always to the same frags and not always by the same folk.

The most common? "Pee pee de chat"

I bet you're good in brainstorming sessions, quinpus. The mind must be able to wander unfettered to arrive at new destinations.

I'm sure that eventually new odors will be added to the fragrance-makers' repertoire that won't be considered anywhere near pretty. Look at the evolution of the other arts: visual, auditory, performance. We need "odd" to entertain us and "crude" to awaken primal responses. I've often thought that one day we will run out of music--every possible pattern of notes will have been copywritten and played on every conceivable sound device. There are only so many notes we can hear, after all.

There are fragrances I encounter in my yard that haven't been tapped by perfumers yet. Some future perfumer-performer will take avocado's green, buttery scent and pair it with some obscure woody sap to arrive at something we'll all rush to buy.

There's an honest-to-goodness avocado note in Mare (Creative Universe). I've never sniffed it, but it's described as a salty, seaweedy aquatic fragrance.

In terms of deliberately offensive fragrances, the best example I can think of is Human Existence, from the Thierry Mugler cofret (http://www.leparfum.thierrymugler.com/us/).

oh! human existence. i totally forgot about that! good call. it's more of a scent experiment than something on the mass market.

i guess perfume is so expensive you can't really joke around and make a truly gross one for mass-market consumption. nobody can afford to pay that much for a joke.

thanks for the kind words, quarry. i think that's the nice way of saying, "she sits around and thinks of weird $hit all day."

i agree- i always wonder what the fragrances are that we can't even imagine or conceive of. some amazing, never-before-seen concoction that rocks our worlds.

Oh gosh... I adore avocado. I love it soooo much. Sadly, the avocado products that I have tried fail disappointingly short of my expectations. Maybe LUSH makes an avocado product? I think they have Avobath... I must try that one.

I have that one in my arsenal and I can honestly say that I have no idea what part of that fragrance would be the avocado... After I read here that Mare sports a very true and real avacado note I did smell an avocado next time I ate one just to compare. An avocado can almost be said to have no smell. It has a smell, but so vague that I just can't see it being used as a note in a fragrance. :D
