Hey all,

There has been much demand for the formula of the original 1980 Patou Pour Homme. It has long been a favourite of mine and bottles are now routinely selling for over $1,000 US on eBay due to scarcity. It is considered by many to be the finest men's fragrance ever created and prior to Aventus appearing on the scene it was the object of an intense online fascination in the niche and vintage communities.

Some years ago I was made privy to a around 85% of the original formula and I have since had a GCMS performed on one of the virtually perfect unopened bottles I own. This has allowed me to piece together the final elements.

I hope it is of much value to others here and I present it free in its entirety.

Download the formula for Patou Pour Homme.

For those who love the later private edition of this fragrance (quite a different beast to be honest), you can also download Patou Pour Homme Privé.

There are many other free formulas on my demo formulas page.

I smelled JPPH only once in the late 80s. I recall it being smokey and leathery. I really wanted it but I couldn’t afford it till a few years later and then it was gone. I barely remember it now.

I think it is the ultimate form of those classic men's scents leaving up to the time - the best of the non dihdyromyrcenol men's perfumes. It is herbal but very well balanced. And having made this formula after completing it, I think it is also quite wearable today.

What do you think about Caron Yatagan?

I like Yatagan though if I want a fragrance with that pine profile I would rather wear Polo green original. But I may be biased as I was given a bottle of Polo Green in my youth and for a long time it was my "signature" fragrance. I still have the bottle my late mother gave me when she returned from a trip to Paris.

Even Caron L’Anarchiste felt challenging to me as well. It had a rusty metal aura to it to me. The original copper bottle was really cool though.

I actually liked Anarchiste and wore it a lot. I got sick of it in the end and gave it away though.

Complimenti Jamie, bella iniziativa. Patou Homme è un classico canone del fougère anni '80, un pilastro...

While I am not familiar with the original, I just mixed this and being fan of the way you put together formulas, I am loving this, Jamie! even before it has mixed properly it smells refined, like something that belongs in a British castle - and requires special clothes and a sense of humor - particularly because of the costus. Thank you so much, Jamie for working on this one and for sharing this formula!

Thank you so much for providing this and many, many other brilliant formulas in your Demo Formulas section. I actually just mocked this up yesterday with just a few substitutions based on what I had and even just an initial smell of the maturing concentrate conjures that Patou Pour Homme goodness so well (and a lot fresher than the small decant I have left). Thank you!

Dear Jamie, thanks a lot for this formula. I dont know where to take pyrogenated dynamone right now. Can you tell what can replace it? and is it possible later to order it from you ? (im going place order very soon)
I haven't been able to find anything under that label today - the next best I am guessing is simply dynamone which is a biolandes product (and perhaps the same thing). The dynamone forms part of the labdanum fond in the perfume. If you place a note on your order I can include a couple of grams of dynamone for free.
