Parfums de Marly 2021 Reformulation - Carlisle

Hello!

I’ve just bought a new Parfums de Marly Carlisle 125ml. It is my 3rd PdM after Herod and Kalan (125ml). The thing is that I have some questions about it, as it has some differences. To mention that the box and the bottle feel high quality and legit but the juice is not as potent as I tested it months ago.

1. The box didn’t came with the classic PdM card inside with details about the brand. (I wonder if this is normal for 2021 batches, they may have removed that card inside).

2. The batch has 7 digits instead of 6, as my Kalan and Herod. So I think this is happening with the new batches.

3. The old bottles don’t even have the concentration on them. On the bottom of the new box of Carlisle, there is written 77% but on the bottom of the bottle it is written 81%. I know these percentages represent the alcohol quantity, so the more alcohol, the less perfume concentration. The question is why the box and bottle percentages are different. Has there been a reformulation of Carlisle?

4. Comparing it to the Kalan and Herod, the atomizer is shorter, even though it has the same quality. The top of the cap is not as crisp as the two and also the inside of the cap is different, but it is as heavy and as qualitative as the others. The label on the bottom of the bottle is also different, and has more information.

I will attach photos so you can see the differences between a PdM from last year and the “new” bottle of Carlisle.

I don’t understand why the alcohol concentration on the box is different than the one on the bottle.

Has anyone bought a PdM lately with the 7 digits batch code?
Is this normal for all the new PdMs?

Thank you!

From the photos your PdM Carlisle looks fine.

1. The box didn’t came with the classic PdM card inside with details about the brand. (I wonder if this is normal for 2021 batches, they may have removed that card inside).

That happened in the past too.
Had that once or twice with older bottles.
However I don't know if they decided to ship them all without those cards now.

2. The batch has 7 digits instead of 6, as my Kalan and Herod. So I think this is happening with the new batches.

PdM changed the batch code system in 2020 from 6 to 7 digits.
In 2020 you have both, 6 and 7 digits, in 2021 only 7 digits.

On the bottom of the new box of Carlisle, there is written 77% but on the bottom of the bottle it is written 81%.

That's the new formulation of Carlisle.
I guess they just used older boxes which they still have in spare.
Old alcohol concentration of Carlisle was 77%, new is 81%.
Herod was 78% and is now 81% too.
Layton was 78% and is now 82%.
(iirc)

the atomizer is shorter

PdM changed the sprayer in 2020, the new ones are indeed shorter.

Hope that helps! :)

Would you please tell us about the performance and longevity?

Based on my experience with older batches of Carlisle, its expected to perform good for at least 8 hours.

I suspect 4% reduction of Parfum oil might reduce the longevity by up to 2 hours.

How is your experience with the Parfum so far?

if they're cheaping out on the concentration of the oil (something obvious as it can't be hidden) best believe they're cheaping out on the ingredients going into that oil too.

You are right, it could be very likely the case. It is sad, Carlisle is often described by PDM as the ultimate creation of the house and seeing that even Carlisle is no exception when it comes to cutting corners for profit is just not acceptable.

I was planning to buy a bottle of Carlisle, but I dont want to play dice at this price range.

Eh, to be fair, I'm pretty sure the ingredients for this house were always pretty cheap to begin with...

The performance is very bad. After reading a lot of positive reviews about it, I had high expectations.
I am very disappointed with the projection especially. The longevity is average, but for this price, it is bad.
I can’t believed that such a beautiful fragrance, known to be a strong performer, is now just average.
I am planning to buy Layton, but after the experience with Carlisle, I am afraid that the 2021 batch of Layton is just as weak as Carlisle. I have to do more research and read some reviews about these new batches.
I can’t believe they did this with my favorite house.

Could you please tell how long do you get out of it? Maybe 6 hours like Herod?

I have not timed it yet, but I guess about 6-7 hours, just like my 2020 batch of Herod, as you said. The problem is that it is barely detectable, even from a short distance, it is very quiet. I can’t believe this used to be a beast mode fragrance.

I suggest, maybe order a sample and test it against your bottle.

Based on your description, i think the one which I tested is 2021 version. Longevity was 6-7 hours, it sounds correct because concentration of older version was on paar with lower end of Parfum Extract and could be +2-3 hours more.

But the Fragrance itself was considerably stronger than Layton or Layton Exclusif.

Earlier today I went to the mall and sprayed Layton on my hand because I am planning to buy it. It was a 2020 tester bottle and I can say that it is much stronger than the 2021 Carlisle I own. I sprayed it about 6 hours ago and it is still projecting strong. It is much more potent than my Carlisle.
I am also afraid about the 2021 Layton because it was also reformulated, by lowering its oil concentration. Do you have any experience with the new 82% Layton? I’ve heard that it is more synthetic than it used to be.

I have tested Layton for a week, unfortunately I dont know if it was from 2021 batch as I ordered 8ml test bottle. It had Longevity of an EdT and projected for one hour, after that becomming skin scent. Total 3 hours staying on skin. It smelled great, but very bad performance.

This is not that strange, because there were many reports of bad batches from PDM.

@gabone I have ordered the 2021 version. I can confirm that that it has gotten weak and does not stay on clothes as long as older versions. It does not projects as older versions as well. I will give it some time to macerate. I think in terms of longevity and performance its more on paar with Creed than older versions of PDM.

I also got Layton last week. It is just a different fragrance. It has Ok performance but the smell is so synthetic now. I can’t believe they destroyed it with this lower concentration. It has 82% Vol. of alcohol now and it smells worse and cheaper. This is not a juice maceration problem, this is just a very big reformulation. Spent over €400 on both Carlisle and Layton this December and I am strongly disappointed that one has no performance and the other one is like a different fragrance than it used to be.

@gabone Me too, its really disappointing. Carlisle has got much lighter and i think feminine too. This wasn't the case before. Well I think this is my last purchase from this house then.
