Osmanthus absolute vs champaca EO. Same scent??

Hi all, I ordered these two materials and when I test a drop of each on a testing strip they smell identical to me. Its an intense white/yellow floral scent, fairly clean and reminds of air freshener sprays. The stain also looks the same colour which is a yellow / green shade.

I have no previous experience of either scent but if anyone knows both materials could you pls let me know before I write back to the supplier.

I've never smelled champaca, but your description is not at all like what osmanthus absolute smells like to me: dark, heavy, fruity/apricot, leathery.

They don't smell alike.

Sounds like you have fragrance oils of some kind, especially given the “air freshener spray ” smell you describe

Every osmanthus absolute I’ve tried has been rather dark in color. My red champaca absolute is also pretty dark. The odor profiles of the two are as dissimilar to me as the smell of an apple versus a banana, and neither smells “clean” in the slightest. the champaca smells like sweet rotting garbage and the osmanthus smells like strong tea brewed in a garbage can

Osmanthus should have dried fruit, apricot, leathery aspect. My absolutes were thick greenish and not transparent.

Champaca is off in another direction. Fermented fruit mainly with a tang vaguely reminiscent of magnolia leaves.

Super helpful, thank you all. The seller has agreed to take them back for a refund. I will probably order them again from Perfumer's Apprentice when I am ready for the next big batch. Unfortunally I have had a number of poor experiences with many (but not all) UK suppliers.
