Hi everyone

So im still pretty new to all this. I have made a couple simple formulas (when i mean simple i mean SIMPLE).
I thought id expand my horizons somewhat, so i started tinkering a bit.

I have made what id call a bare skeleton of an ocean accord. Any input is welcome, additions, subtractions, ratio, its all welcome.

Im here to learn.

Vertofix -104
Calone -114
Galaxolide -19
Algenone -220
Helional -363
Farnesol -65
Seaweed (5 fold tincture @ 3:1) -115

Dimethyl sulfide (CAS 75-18-3) - this is a major contributor to the actual scent of the ocean
Maritima (CAS 38462-23-6) - this should be more widely used - a wonderful damp seaside breeze chemical.

Olibanum resinoid smells like like sand to me, could add to a blend.
Oh, i never thought about that 🤔.
Im gonna have to give it a go and see where it takes me.
Olibanum always gave me a very pine fresh pepper aroma, maybe in lower doses itll take on a sandy nuance.

Thank you

It is, i wasnt sure if i wanted to keep it or dose it down, bc it has kinda taken a more prominent role than what i would have liked. I wanted the algenone and seaweed to play the main part of the accord. (idk why but i love the smell of algenone).
Its nice that you have replied Mr. Kiler, as im using your osmanthus in a hopeful beachy summer scent. im thinking of using this accord in as well.

More so wet sand, It's the mineral aspect.

Its been on a blotter 4 hrs now and still going strong, the seaweed tincture is all but gone, it definitely has the salty oceanic smell, its just still missing something. It might be the mineral/sand aspect that chyprefresh brought up. Maybe a bit of warmth.

Sounds awful lot like an ambroxan type could be the missing warmth part as someone suggested on reddit (even though that was ambergris), carefully dosed of course as the blend feels already salty.

I’d cut the Calone down tenfold and remove the vertofix for now.

I don’t want to list materials to try, but I’m going to anyway lol, I second the Dimethyl Sulfide and if you do buy it open it and dilute it outside, non negotiable.

You can try some more basic things that IMO will blend the breeze feel and ocean smell, such as floralozone, adoxal, alpha terpinyl acetate and linalool oxide.

I’d also suggest looking at seaweed absolute as opposed to a tincture, the salty vibe and scent it gives for something ocean like would be perfect and it’ll last much longer.
I also agree to adding a touch of ambroxan, (I only stick with cetalox at this point but any form of ambrox will do). Maybe even some Nectaryl or Hexalon to add some nuance might be nice.

Also if you have it maybe you can try swapping out the Galaxolide for Habanolide, it might fit better, might.

"I’d cut the Calone down tenfold and remove the vertofix for now."

Yeah im actually in the process of that right now 👍 but i am gonna want a very slight wood smell which vertofix gave maybe something else

"I don’t want to list materials to try, but I’m going to anyway lol, I second the Dimethyl Sulfide and if you do buy it open it and dilute it outside, non negotiable."

Unfortunately, the only places that have dimethyl sulfide in small quantities is pell wall and perfumeworld across 2 oceans and the $30+ shipping for 1 ac, so ill have to wait till i need a couple more from pell wall. Yeah i assumed it is something for outdoors lol.

Nice, i have all of these except terpinyl acetate which i can get from PSH if none of these are to my liking

Ill have to get some seaweed absolute from eden, has anybody used this absolute? I only used the tincture bc i didnt want a full blown seaweed, but more of a nuance. The nectaryl os noted 👍

"Also if you have it maybe you can try swapping out the Galaxolide for Habanolide, it might fit better, might."

I was actually thinking of switching the galaxolide for something slightly warmer, habanolide was on the list initially, i dont remember why i removed it.

Thank you for your input.

Ok, so i was put under the impression that algenone pb was a synonym for ultrazur, apparently that is wrong.
Im changing the original post to reflect this.
Im still reworking the formula, hopefully this will go better, ugh.

Seaweed absolute is great for when that's what you want, but be aware that it's strong strong strong. You'll want to dilute it down to 1% before working with it.

Thank you for the heads up, for such a nuance ill probably go less but start off at 1%.

Thank you

Ambrinol smells briney and sandy/earthy to me, so might be something you consider (at a very low concentration).

And an observation: you can get good effect from helional in the 2-6% range. I have never dosed it that high so I can't necessarily claim that to be too much, but you might consider cutting back on the helional to replace with a filler, especially if you don't want it to crush your seaweed and algenone.
