Bug Not receiving email notices for many subscribed threads

The old topic for this is closed but here is a variation. I do get email notices from some forums and threads but there are many to which I am subscribed where I don't receive any notice. Then if I wonder what is going on in that thread and go over there, tons of posts have been made with no notice received and I am way behind in the discussion. The SOTD thread started by the robot sill does not send emails either. I have to seek out that thread manually every day.

I have checked and rechecked and reset my settings to ensure the thread or site settings are set to receive emails but it doesn't happen. Sorry I can't even identify all the threads involved because they are all over. But a couple I can think of are the threads on thread management going forward, the 2022 Friday sync thread—these are only two examples of many. It's like I keep getting bounced out of receiving notices.

@FiveoaksBouquet - I prefer the alert system for my watched threads, it is more reliable but you have to have alerts switched on. Just a thought, are the watched threads that don't have email notifications the older ones from the old Basenotes? If yes, try unwatching the thread and then watching it again - you should get a pop up option where you can chose to receive email notifications as well as the alerts!

Thanks, CC. I’ve done all of that for the old threads and more than once in attempting to correct the new threads. I believe it worked for the old threads but not the new ones but it’s hard to say for sure as most of the old threads have died down by now.

As for the alert system, I did try it for a while but found it overwhelming and time consuming. Emails are much more convenient because they fit in with my daily routine whereas with the alert system it adds a whole nother task to follow.

The email system has been very reliable standard operating procedure with every other computer site I’ve had occasion to use it with over the years. I’m sure it can work here too once the bug is found.

Hope it gets resolved soon, I can understand your issues with the alert system. While Grant is looking into the cause, the New Posts feature may help with not missing any posts. It's not ideal because you will have to scroll through all the new posts but if you are looking for familiar threads it should go a bit quicker.....

Thanks! i’m not 100% sure because it’s hard to remember every thread I posted in but I think it works (with the exception of SOTD and the robot) in in the forum with the main perfume discussion threads, but not in some of the other forums like Community and others. Maybe that’s a clue.

I think I've got the problem areas identified. I get alerts and some emails from the General, Masculine, Feminine forums and the Lounge. None from the other forum groups, yet I am subscribed to several threads in them—such as Vintage, Grooming & Cosmetics, Fasihion, Community, etc.—nada.

Sorry to break your theory in such short order

It’s a good thing you did because I went back to check and no, I don’t get all the subscribed threads in The Lounge, for instance. It seems random within the topics. Back to the drawing board to try to find a pattern.

Oh—and I have activated Alerts as backup and I don’t get all subscribed threads in there either.

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I just logged on and got a notice (in the forum header) that my email wasn't receiving messages. I don't know why that would be, but I re-saved (the exact same email) my profile email and reconfirmed and now I seem to be back up and running.

Still have zero idea why that occurred. Letting you know, Grant, just in case others are experiencing the issue.

Perhaps my email client just suddenly decided Basenotes was spam after years of sending them through.

It may have something to do with this email issue that Grant posted about.

The gmail bug appears to be fixed now - but please let me know if any gmail users are still having problems

@FiveoaksBouquet - according to the email records, all the emails the system is sending you are not bouncing back or anything, so afaik you are getting everything you should.

I can send you a list via PM of the most recent email titles we've sent you (the system doesnt retain the messages) and maybe you can see if you receieved them?

Thank you, Grant. I have checked the list and gone over my subscriptions. Most are working. There are still a couple of MIAs that I outlined in a reply PM.

Grant, I'm sorry to be bringing this up again but there are still threads where I am subscribed but don't get emails or alerts. Two very important ones are What Did You Buy Today? and Post a Picture of Your Scents. As a result I can't keep up with those unless I keep checking all the time, which is unrealistic.

I also don't get new threads or any posts from the Vintage forum, where I am duly subscribed. I have tried resetting all the watch features numerous times but no luck. I am hoping that something can be done about this because it is frustrating to lose track of discussions in which I want to participate. Sorry to say I am not capable of keeping all the threads in the forefront of my mind and depend on the notifications to remember. Thank you.

I now get emails and alerts for most (many?) subscribed threads but one very important one I keep getting bumped out of is “What did you buy today? (2022).” This is even though I dutifully go onto the site to read the thread each time so as to keep the subscription alive.

When it dawns on me that I haven’t received any notices for a long time I go to check and days and days have gone by. There may be other such threads but if so I have forgotten what they are.
