Vetiver Gris has landed! beautiful scent as expected, probably not my style 100% but will need to spend more time with it. smells very classy & refined, maybe a tad on the traditional side which fits with the houses style. i will say that it's very sharp & green with the vetiver accented in such a way that creates a very crisp, minty-lime sort of freshness. and the hazelnut note is clearly detectable, used very cleverly to round off the sharpness.

i kept thinking i've smelled this sort of thing before and it finally clicked - Xerjoff Nio. there's quite a bit of similarity here to my nose.

Oh interesting, would not have expected Vetiver Gris to go in that direction. Sounds like it's not hugely unique in its character. Does it also last about the same as Nio?

i'd say so.

there are differences but i was instantly reminded of something until i realised what it was. both are sparkling, green & natural smelling. clearly this is constructed in a different way but the end result is quite similar. i'll need to get more familiar with it but so far i'm not picking out the iris just the hazelnut besides that dominant green citrus. certainly wears excellently on skin though maybe a little formal/serious smelling, exactly the same problem I had with Nio.

Interesting. I don't seem to get the connection.

there's a whole pineapple aspect in here which is very much like the unique Aventus batch 15Y11. it's an incredibly fruity smell once you pick it up, definitely growing on me.

this is the best niche citrus-woody release for a long time. there's absolutely no doubting Herault's mastery when you spray it. i'm very happy and i think once word gets around how good it is they'll see a lot of sales. and i can wear it absolutely anytime it's very versatile.

How's longevity? Is the base robust and interesting?

i would not say the longevity is amazing, just on the scent profile leaning toward the more citrus-fresh side. Bois Imperial could be the fragrance for people looking for a modern vetiver-ish scent profile that really performs. doesn't smell anywhere near as good though, not even close. but it's more than adequate for me with a pleasing projection, the parfum strength adding quite a bit of density to what is a brighter scent. the base like all aspects of this is superb, woody with that lingering nuttyness, the aromachemical sinfonide seems to round things off leaving an elegant trail. this is for people that want their vetiver natural, refined & fruity in the context of a citrus-woody scent. it's like Nio meets Aventus with vetiver and it's superb.

like I commented on another recent release, a scent of this style & standard could easily be released as a new Creed to much applause & fanfare. it would be their best release since Aventus but instead we're treated to it at a much lower price through a comparitively small niche house (ironically one with actual history)

Cuba Know is obnoxious as all get out! Goodness...

I wonder if Ash from Gent Scents will review this. Seems right up his alley with iris and vetiver.

Agreed, I cannot get on with his personality. Also the fake contacts that Redolesence is wearing bothers me something terrible and I'm not sure exactly why. Maybe it's the fact that the eyes are the window to our soul (what a cliche), but anything that makes the eyes look unnatural really bothers me..

I think the only big time fragrance YouTuber I can stand to watch these days is The Perfume Guy. The two underrated gems out there, which aren't really mainstream, but for me are the ones whose opinions I really trust are Early Greek and our resident vintage expert, Varanis Ridari. I'd love to see these three get their hands on this particular fragrance.

I'm starting to want to blind buy this... haha. The price is pretty reasonable. Does this fragrance come off masculine to you? or more unisex? I know you said longevity isn't off the charts, but does it last a full workday? Does it project much and make itself known with 3-4 sprays? Overall, how does it's strength/presence compare to Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum (2017)? What masculine fragrance would you compare its strength/performance to? Is there an element of casual fun to this fragrance, or does it come off pretty formal and buttoned-up?

Sorry to spam the questions. Any insight is appreciated!

more masculine and does not project for an entire day. 7-8 sprays to get a nice projection for 4-5 hours but this is not a strong perfume in terms of fixatives. it's more subtle than the one you're describing but it does last well on skin due to the concentration. you might want to look at Essential Parfums Bois Imperial for a green smelling scent with bigger projection. i'm afraid performance is simply not such a concern for me beyond a certain level where this is more than adequate. i like scents like Millesime Imperial or Begramote 22 and this very much fits into that mould as a refined citrus. very versatile in terms of how it comes across, this is more about the wearer for when it's suitable and I could personally wear it anytime just to smell clean & zesty. but a bit more mature than Aventus that's for sure.

Definitely piqued my interest, hope I can find it cheap in Europe sometime this year.

Also wouldn't be surprised if performance improves a little with some air into your bottle, considering you just got it. Almost seems to be the norm rather than the exception with new releases these days.

yeah with the ingredient profile being toward the natural side this is likely. it already smelled different after the first few sprays and steadily improving 30ml in (did a few decants). this was especially a thing with Creeds/Aventus and the DNA isn't a million miles away.

price wise just over 100 euro for 100ml is cheap for what you get, in my eyes. granted Bois Imperial is 70 euro for 100ml & x5 as strong but this is high perfumery, it's not meant for the mass consumption/beast mode trends.
