Reminds me a line from my favorite poem by Victor Hugo:

".....cet arbre si grand,
Qu’un cheval au galop met, toujours en courant,
Cent ans à sortir de son ombre?"

Thanks for that. Amazing how much one can learn by tracking down the full context of a single word.

Marketing strategy (the equestrian theme) to differentiate themselves from the competition.

Definitely agreed there. I'm thinking that this strategy might somehow be protective against LVMH takeover, but I'm not sure how that would work.

Re: New from Hermes: Galop D'Hermes

This sounds wonderful. Leather and rose for a first release is a good sign that Hermes will continue to carve its own path in the modern market.

There really is. I got some flak over in MFD for saying I hated it, but it sticks out like a sore thumb in the Colonia collection.

It truly does.

I'm starting to see the green bottle as being as much of a warning, or maybe an apology, as "truth in advertising". It did catch my eye, and the atypical scent caught my attention and eventually made me grab a bottle, but after a week's worth of full wears, it just started grating on my nerves. It will become one of my once-in-a-blue-moon scents, but it simply can't be one of my favorites - no way.

I'm very hopeful for this new Hermes - more so after reading some of the background on Scented Salamander. It looks like they're aiming it to be a "poachable feminine" - and Hermes does those well.

Agree with the comments about the bottle... Bad concept IMO but interested in future male releases...

Has anyone tried this yet?

It's available in Paris, so I'm assuming it's hit some other places, as well.

I'd love to know what any of you think of it!

At a whole the new Galop smells as a leathery lighter version of Lancome Magnifique that was discontinued some years ago.

I can't say this is really something new for Hermes. Not a new a style, not far from Jour d'Hermes in terms of overall perception. Christine Nagel just rethought what J-C Ellena already created.

Galop is airy, leathery and spicy. Not sweet absolutely. I do smell leather of Cuir d'Ange, fresh spiceness and roses Lancome Magnifique and ISO e super mixed together. Mature and beautiful, if you like leather.
