I found Profumo quite hard to wear in the winter months, although it works wonders in the summer.

Funny, ever since Profumo came out there always seemed to be a clear divide between those preferring it for hot weather, or the opposite.

I was definitely in the camp that thought Profumo was quite hard to use in the summer months. Always got much more use out of it during cooler seasons or evening events.

I find this sort of comment both interesting and yet exciting. Interesting, because I have never personally understood how people think Profumo would work in cooler weather, so I wonder if I've missed something here. I tried it on multiple occasions and thought it was quite hard to wear. I suppose the spicy and herbal notes could work just as well in the cooler seasons. It's exciting, because I'm keen to explore this further. I wonder if it's the type of climate I'm living in. I've often taken AdG Profumo with me on holiday and it works really well in baking hot Mediterranean summers. Or it could just be my skin chemistry.

My climate in south Louisiana is hot and humid most of the year. When it is cooler/hot, we still mostly have high humidity which makes our cool days have some bite to them. Wet/cold feels more cold. But the vast majority of the year we are hot and humid. Profumo is enjoyable year round for me. Something I’ll point out now is that my two bottles of Profumo are from 2015 and 2018. I did have a bottle from 2019 that I gave away. I’m bring this up because to me there is a clear formula change that happened in 2019. I don’t know exactly what part of 2019, but the formula was weakened a bit. And that weakened formula found its way into some of the older magnetic cap/chrome font bottles along with the newer style bottle. 2019 was a transition year for the formula. I prefer the original formula which has more incense and longevity. The incense has just enough dry aspect to it that the fragrance works in my heat, along with the AdG DNA.

I say all of that to say:
  • I wonder what if it’s the older or the newer formula that people are disliking in the heat. For me the original formula is a champ.
  • For those that say Parfum is exactly like Profumo, are you comparing it to the original version of Profumo or the newer formula found from 2019 on?
Hopefully, I’ll get my nose on Parfum soon. Once I do, I’ll give feedback on what I’m experiencing. Enjoying the thread!

I finally managed to try it and I have to say my faith is restored. They kept the accord very close the Profumo if you ask me and it’s not a devastation in any way.

I want to give it more time and to try it on from multiple bottles/testers before I come up with some more firm comments. But first impressions are definitely thumbs up 👍
Thanks for this.

It appears they've added ginger to the mix. That explains why the opening is somehow fresher. Now I really want to try it.

Interesting to read that some are saying it's very similar to ADG Profumo. The bottle design alone seems to strongly hint at that. I would definitely like to try a version of Profumo with the incense toned down a bit.

I agree on ADG Profumo feeling like an instant classic. It had a very luxurious scent profile to it. Was it possibly too mature smelling for American consumers? I felt it was definitely a scent for an accomplished or very confident person, but I wouldn't necessarily characterize it as "mature" in the way that I'd describe modern-retro men's fragrances (Aramis Tobacco Reserve for ex). ''

I'm excited to try both this ADG Parfum and Profondo.

Well I'm wearing this from a decant the SA was kind enough to give me. At first I am frustrated because it seems weak and fleeting. Then I realize are aromatics at play here, something Profumo didn't have. The aromatics almost mutes the scent. In 30 minutes it becomes more alive and the character starts to set in with rosemary, sage, pathouli, and incense concoction, and thats it. I'm guessing that aromatic phase is the marine notes, but once that gives way, you're left with the dry down. Not sure this is worth it.

After wearing this for roughly 3 hours, its a skin scent. Profundo is better than this and Profumo RIP, was already a masterpiece. So this parfum IMO is not worth it and won't purchase.

Agree with you Sloth and ShawnS! I wonder how much freedom Alberto Morillas had in this rebirth of Profumo? Because it definitely sucks in comparison. Very muted and fleeting. Aside from that, I don't find the notes v effect to be original or desirable. Just smells like your average spice/incense combo. I would rather have other armani discontinued fragrances over this such as Attitude, HE, Mania.

I
I blind bought a bottle because I got a good deal on it at Armani. To me its basically profumo with the incense toned down. The dry down is the same and seems to lasts forever on me. I would consider it quite redundant owning both.
If the incense is toned down, that'd be a bigger winner for me. I'm gonna try to sample this over the weekend and report back.

I have my budget Classic Match Version of it in the meantime. It feels much easier to wear than the real thing, but I think the cheaper ingredients make it smell cheaper or crude as well.

I'm stills surprised that Profumo didn't catch on. It seemed like the perfect bridge between younger, modern sensibilities and serious and formal tastes.

I'm going to chip back in here. Having worn Parfum on and off for the last 3 months I have to say that I really enjoy it and, as I think I said before, I find it ever more versatile than Profumo.

Profumo, for me, was an any time, any occasion scent and I had no issues wearing it any time although as highlighted by @rum and @Effortless I did favour it more in summer.

I can't quite pin point what it is about Parfum, to me it smells like a slightly different aromachemical used for the Incense but the Incense is still there.

For me it's just an all round good fragrance.

Armani Canada told me yesterday that they still have no timeline for getting this in stock. You'd think that they'd plan the replacements of their products in a more uniform fashion to ease the transition from their discontinued products, but no. They cycle instead seems to be: confusion/denial/anger/confusion. It's the four stages of fragdom!
