Need help identifying a vintage perfume without a scent profile

Hello, BaseNotes community! This is my first post here, so I hope I've found the right forum to ask for help. If this is the wrong spot, please direct me to the proper forum, and I'll move there asap. Thanks!

I'm looking to identify a vintage perfume my late grandmother owned somewhere in the 1970s-1980s. My only knowledge of this mystery perfume is below--I've never seen nor smelled it in person. (hoping to gift a bottle to my mother this Christmas :) This perfume was very special to her) From my past questioning, I have this much information about the perfume. My mother is good with remembering details, so most if not all of these should be present in the perfume:

* The perfume came in a faded baby blue box with silver text.
* The bottle had a silver or gold cap. It might've looked like a ball or cylinder (unsure)
* There were likely no designs on the glass. The glass should be fairly plain: a flattened spherical vial with a simple metallic (gold/silver) cap on top.
* The country of origin might've been Russia, but it could have been somewhere in Europe (possibly French?)
* My grandmother obtained this perfume sometime in the late 60s or early 70s--at the latest, in the early 80's.
* The perfume was NOT a spray-type eau de parfum or eau de toilette, but a concentrate. I believe that makes it an oil perfume, but I could be wrong :) Either way, it was applied directly to skin, and the scent lasted for several days.
* The bottle was tiny. From description, I'd guess it was about the size of a .17oz bottle (grandmother never ran out of this perfume, it was simply lost to time)
* The best match for the bottle so far is "Casmir" by Chopard Parfums. The bottle should look quite similar to Casmir, only a lot smaller--definitely 1oz or less, and probably closer to the .17oz bottle. Unlike the Casmir, the bottle also shouldn't have any designs in the glass.

I know this isn't a lot of information, but I hope someone will recognize this mystery perfume by its pale blue box and simple design. Thanks for reading, and let me know if you have any questions! Your best matches and wildest guesses are all very welcome in the search.

Do you have pics that are similar to what you are describing? That will help us

Hi, epapsiou, and thanks for the reply. Yes, the Casmir by Chopard is a close match to the bottle I'm looking for. Here's an image. Some differences: the perfume I'm looking for should have a desaturated baby blue box, the text on the box should be silver, and the cap could be silver or gold. I believe the bottle should be very small. Probably a .17oz bottle.

Tell us about your grandmother. Was she rich, or have wealthy relatives who might have gifted her expensive perfume? Did she live in an area that had perfume shops, or only department stores? Did she travel overseas where she might have bought it? The size of the bottle you describe makes it a parfum, extrait, or attar, but a squatty bottle like Casmir with no embellishments from the 60's...

I’m thinking could it be the bath oil of Youth Dew?

Hi, FiveOaks! You've got the right box color, but the bottle was short and stubby. I should add that the bottle's glass was clear (very little/no color) and the perfume inside was yellow/gold/amber. Thanks for taking a shot at this, and please let me know if you have any other ideas!

Hello, Foxbins. My grandmother worked in a daycare in Eastern Europe back in the USSR. The parents were grateful for her work with the kids, so they pooled their funds to help her buy something nice as a thank you. I believe she bought the perfume through underground market or an odd acquaintance. My mother recalls being puzzled by how she'd managed to obtain the perfume, as both grandmother and grandfather came from modest backgrounds. I don't think she bought it through the regular market, as there was virtually no perfume available in stores where she lived at the time. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Hi, epapsiou. My reply with an image is awaiting mod approval, but you can look up "Casmir" by Chopard for a bottle that looks similar to the mystery perfume. There's two possible contenders I found. One is Soir de Paris by Bourjois, which was extremely popular back in the day. The other is a Russian fragrance called 'Polnoch' (I think it also means midnight in Russian - perhaps it's a homage of the Bourjois?).

I don’t have any guesses, unfortunately, but after coming across an Etsy seller in Ukraine who deals in Soviet perfume bottles (https://www.etsy.com/shop/USSRtreasure), it occurred to me that someone from the same region where your grandmother worked might be the most helpful in recalling the perfume.

Several of the editors at the, ahem, other popular fragrance website are from Russia and they apparently have a sister site there, so I imagine they would also have a large audience with ties to the former USSR. Maybe it would be worthwhile to post your inquiry in their vintage forum (https://www.fragrantica.com/board/viewforum.php?id=11)?

Some good finds here, Nastka. I think the Soir de Paris box is a little too blue, but the Nopoch looks closer to the mystery. Sadly, the bottle glass is stained blue, and I don't believe the cap is metallic. On further questioning, I learned today that the mystery perfume 1) had a metallic, spherical cap, so maybe this can help narrow the search? Thanks for pitching in :)

Hi, Adonna. The bottle's glass was less ornate than the bottles shown here. However, the box in your first reminds me of another detail I forgot to add to the main post: the perfume box came with a small, white, satin platform, just like the one you show in the third** picture. This isn't the right perfume, but that satin cloth should be present in the missing perfume. Thanks for adding to the search :)

Thanks for the tip, cdave2. I'll extend my search to the other site and see if anyone there is familiar with the perfume :)

Hello again, FiveOaks. I think we're getting closer with the color scheme, but the bottle I'm looking for wasn't a spray type perfume. The unidentified perfume should be a "Parfum." Thanks for taking another guess, and please keep the ideas coming :)

One last shot: Charlie also came in parfum.

Close with the color scheme, but the cap should be a metallic sphere. Thanks for trying :')

You’re welcome. Just keep in mind that many perfumes, Charlie included, had varied packaging. Over time.the same product may have come in numerous sizes and modified bottle designs. Whatever the perfume is, it would help to know what it smelled like but, barring that, it’s good to keep an open mind on packaging.

Thanks for the tip. I'm excited to announce that I may have found the mystery perfume. Can't say for sure until it arrives (could be after New Year, unfortunately), so please pass along any ideas if you think you've found another close match, but I showed a picture to my mother, and she thinks it's the one. It's an obscure vintage perfume called "Once Upon a Time" (English translation; you'll only find it in Russian) produced by a Soviet state-owned enterprise in the 80s. Will let you know for sure when I finally receive it. Thanks all for helping with the search! Merry Christmas and happy holidays :).
