Hello friends! I read the thread on “Angel special bottles and editions” by Dane. I recently snagged a 25 Ml Extrait of the 2002 limited edition “a star is born” I found out information about the released but fragrance notes are no where to be found. The only Extrait version of Angel I’ve found is for 2006. Are these the same? I read some versions are fruitier and some “animalic” any feedback would be appreciated!

That thread on Angel special and limited editions that Dane started has a wealth of information and photos for reference purposes. It’s true though the fragrances themselves were not as discussed as the various presentations.

I only ever had one Angel parfum, as a gift, and I don’t know what year it was. As I recall it seemed at the same time more intense than the edp and yet quieter, less sweet and less can we say gregarious and more likely to stay home a couple if nights a week—but still unmistakably Angel. I don’t recall it being animalic.

Sorry I can’t compare with any other Angel parfum. Hopefully there will be someone with a long dedication to Mugler to be more specific.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I messaged Dane and they were able to give me a lot of information. This community is wonderful!

Dane said they put the special edition Angel extraits into 2 classes: boozy and fruity. Dane considers the 2002 a star is born Extrait as “fruity”. It’s something to go off of but I haven’t gotten a “note breakdown”.
The only Extrait that has notes listed is on Fragrantica; for the 2006 Angel Extrait de Parfum - which looks delicious!
So unless my item comes with the booklet (I only saw the velvet signature box and the bottle itself in the Mercari ad I purchased it from) that describes the Parfum, my answer is still unsolved! I really hope I like it. I used to wear and adore both Angel and Alien in the mid/late 00’s when I was a teen/ young adult. Last holiday season I realized I had no fragrances except an almost empty bottle of Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge. That kicked off my fragrance journey. I had purchased some samples of Angel and Alien- the Angel samples where older - Mfd by Thierry Mugler Parfums not CFG, and they all smelled horrible! Not at ALL what I remember - it’s was stanky bo! 😂So, I’m beginning to believe the samples I got had turned. I have other patchouli frags that I enjoy so I haven’t become adverse to patchouli. My fingers are crossed that I actually enjoy the Extrait of Angel that on its way to me. I’ll you posted if you’re curious!

Thanks for the explanation. IMHO it’s lucky to have found some parfum at all. They were few and far between. I hope it’s to your taste and that you will write about it in a thread.

The samples you disliked may not have turned. In the last few years both Angel and Alien seem to have been not only reformulated multiple times but deformed in the process.

I’ve been an Angel fan since it came out and have loved many other Mugler perfumes through the years but have now left the house. Angel today, as you mentioned, smells nothing like the original. What hasn’t been adulterated in Mugler has been chopped by the current owner, L’Oréal. There was just a big thread on that. Sad, but it was wonderful during the heyday.

I agree! I’ve been lucky enough to snag a few bottles of vintage alien -1st formula. It’s so sad, I want to smell Angel again not whatever the heck were in those samples.
