Villoresi's Sandalo
This is by far the best sandalwood I've been able to find, in fact the only one that comes close to smelling like actual sandalwood when you wear it. It's not the real thing, unfortunately, but it's a great attempt at recapturing a rounded, multifaceted sandalwood scent. I wish the rich thickness of the opening lasted in to the base. Oddly, I find Sandalo almost lopsided: the balsamic facets are prominent in the opening but fade away for a soapier, lighter, cleaner drydown. It's slightly confusing but, still, a pleasing enough experience. My opinion on this scent changes near enough every time I wear it, which to my mind is a sign that this is a scent that has a particular time and place when it is most appropriate. I suppose not every good scent has to be an easy wear with equal enjoyment every time. Perhaps it is my expectation for what sandalwood should smell like that causes the issue. Either way, this steamy, butter, balsamic, soapy sandalwood is still the best I've come across and I think one that improves with a bit of age to the bottle as well.
