Looking for 70s-90s recommendations

Hi,

I‘ve been interested in fragrances for about 2-3 years and currently enjoying older ones the most. I blind-bought a few on ebay and most of them have become favorites. So I‘m looking to discover more and to add some more variety to my collection.

Here are some that I own along with my impressions:
  • Armani Eau Pour Homme: Nice but not a huge fan of the classic citrus category
  • Cartier Pasha EDT: My first love growing up
  • Creed Bois du Portugal: Beautiful but rarely in the mood for it
  • Dior Jules 2016: One of my favorites, is the vintage worth it?
  • Emanuel Ungaro Ungaro pour L'Homme II: My last successful blind-buy, love the scent
  • Guerlain Héritage EDT: Beautiful
  • Lèonard Pour Homme: Really enjoy it but not blown away
  • PR Pour Homme: Current version, like the style but a bit sharp
  • PR Ténéré: A little bit sour but other than that a favorite of mine
  • Ted Lapidus Pour Homme: Current version, not bad at all for the price but probably wouldn’t buy again, too synthetic smelling and sweet
  • YSL Kouros: First version, like it but probably wouldn’t pay the high price again, totally dislike the current formulation
Others that I have tried only in their current formulation, which do not own and have no intention of buying:
  • Antonio Puig Quorum
  • Azzaro pour Homme
  • Cartier Santos
  • Chanel Antaeus
  • Chanel Pour Monsieur
  • Guerlain Habit Rouge EDT
  • Davidoff Zino
  • Dior Fahrenheit EDT/Parfum
  • Dior Eau Sauvage EDT/Parfum
  • Guy Laroche Drakkar Noir
  • Jaguar for Men
  • Ralph Lauren Polo Green
What do you think is missing that could be worth getting and is also not too similar to what I already have?

Ideally I‘m looking for less popular, discontinued fragrances since these can be found for a reasonable price such as Ténéré and Léonard.

Currently I’m interested in Davidoff Classic, Lancôme Sagamore, Krizia Uomo and Hermès Bel Ami. Do you think any of these would be a good addition?

Any input is very much appreciated!

That is quite the list _Nicolas_, will see how many of those I can find!

The vast majority of those are available as miniatures so they should be quite easy to sample (try reliable sellers on eBay). :)

Maybe...

Cacharel Nemo
Cacharel Amor PH
Calvin Klein CK One Shock FM - came out in 2011 but it fits right in there in the 90s category, stylistically.
Nino Cerutti 1881 Men
Joop! PH
Joop! Nightflight

You smell good! 😄

Gucci Pour Homme (Original 1976 version)

Tiffany for Men

Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree (EdT) and/or Pour Monsieur EdP
: (*Note: Tiffany for Men and Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree are both excellent and are very similar. The Concentree can probably be found for a better price than the Tiffany. In addition, the Concentree (EdT) is no longer made but they now make the same fragrance as Chanel Pour Monsieur EdP.)

Nicolai New York (EdT) or New York Intense: (Note: Nicolai New York (EdT) was the original version and is no longer available. Only the Intense version is made now. New York is often described as a more modern version of Creed's Bois du Portugal.)

Dunhill Blend 30

Gianfranco Ferre for Man

Givenchy Gentleman (Vintage)

Paloma Picasso Minotaure

Trying to enrich this already wonderful topic-substantiated often and thoroughly with great fragrance recommendations, by adding names like (but not limited to):

- Chevignon Brand for Men
- (both vintage and/or more current, but 2004 version at its latest) Sandalwood by Crabtree & Evelyn
- Faconnable pour Homme and also Face a Face from the same Faconnable house
- most of the current Bogart scents, including (but again not limited to) Signature
- Boucheron PH, both as EDT and as EDP version of this
- most of the Marbert masculines that are still available

to only name a few options that might interest you in the long run.

The ones you mention are all good and worthy. Krizia Uomo used to be very cheap. It's dark green, in the italian coniferous style. You don't seem to like some fougeres, this is darker, but who knows. Sagamore is an excellent citrus, very natural smelling, not like the Armani. I assume you don't like the current Chanel pour monsieur edp-if it's the edt, then beware because it's not miles away from Sagamore.

I don't think you should go after expensive vintage Jules, the 2016 is good enough.

Agree - the current one is fine.
I concur. I own the current Jules, and - while I never smelled the original - this is very good! No reason to go chase unicorns and sell kidneys or spare children, if you are living in ignorant bliss - keep doing so, it will also keep the wife happy and you know what they say…

I do not know if Caron Yatagan has been mentioned. If not, and if you indeed like things like Jules, give it a try. If you could bottle up autumn - it we be called Yatagan. Oh and Le 3e Homme de Caron - The scent of Bonus Pater! It has (to me) a lovely “cigaret”/“dry-unsweetened-pipe” smoke-vibe in the drydown. Not in a bad way (I can not stand the smell of cigaret smoke), but this is like the smell of a loving family father of ages long gone.

Damn - I need to re-order me a bottle. And never depart from it again - ever.

I see Chanel Egoïste mentioned - to me the Platinum holds nothing on the “OG”! This is Guerlain Héritage dressed up for night out with his wife. In my opinion Chanel’s finest!

Dior Dune Pour Homme - lovely green spring and summer perfume. Great alternative - that will stand well out in the crowd, in a good way.

Chanel Antaeus - If Egoïste is Héritage dressed up - the Antaeus is Yatagan’s ditto!

Zino Davidoff - you will have to duck because they will throw it after you! Dirt cheap but does not smell so. Try Beau de Jour - if you like it but want a tiny more “rugged” version, get Zino - get anyways! I am not saying that TF should be charged with plagiarism - but…(and for reference I do own the TF)

One could go on, there is a reason we still talk about these.

Forgot to mention Boss Number One - to me this is the ultimate yuppie smell. It reminds me of Bret Easton Ellis. I do not like yuppies - but I love the smell of Boss Number One (and Bret too!)

YES! This stuff is fantastic but I forgot to mention it when going through my collection, I often overlook it because we have the crappy modern bottle in the directory.

The crappy modern bottle AND the wrong spelling (Genghis instead of Gengis).

Okay right, I'll probably take it off my list in that case.

Yes I have been very interested in Yatagan and Le 3e Homme de Caron as well! Need to try Dior Dune too.

I already own and enjoy Egoïste, Egoïste Platinum and Beau de Jour. Not really a fan of Zino. I like Antaeus, but not enough to buy a full bottle at this point.

Forgot to mention Boss Number One - to me this is the ultimate yuppie smell. It reminds me of Bret Easton Ellis. I do not like yuppies - but I love the smell of Boss Number One (and Bret too!)
I read that it's supposed to be quite similar to PR Ténéré, which I already own. Can you guys confirm that?
