Doesn't seem like my style of scent but look forward to someone getting a nose on it.

Attention @Pstoller

Looks like Clive Christian is finally plumbing the Crown archives for reimagined classics.

I have no idea what to expect from this release but really happy to see something new from CC beyond the 1872 and X flankers. Will be ordering this for sure.

I see Harrods already has this in stock.

First thing I thought on seeing Hednic's post! And I believe I have the original to compare. CC's website says it will ship in the US at the end of October. Can't say my hopes are too high, given that this is being marketed as an aquatic, which 1) is not my style, and 2) wasn't Crown Perfumery's style in the late 19th century, either.

Also, $400 for 50ml? I won't be first in line.

You were literally the first person on my mind when I saw this. I can't imagine they'll be alike at all.

I can't imagine they'll be alike at all.

They're not pretending they will:

"Celebrating Clive Christian Perfume’s foundations in the Crown Perfumery Company, the new Crown Collection from Clive Christian Perfume will bring to life archive and historic scents, reimagined for the modern day perfume connoisseur. … New versions of archives most outstanding scents will be reinvented from the 1800s formulations, transforming them into new works of art, created with the Clive Christian traditions of concentration, complexity and a dedication to using the finest ingredients…

CRAB APPLE BLOSSOM, A PERFUME LOVERS DREAM … this delicate perfume was first created in 1886. The original scent was inspired by the blossoming crab apple tree that grew outside the Crown Perfumery founder’s home in Kensington, London. … This year, Clive Christian reinvents this iconic scent into a Citrus Aquatic fragrance, marking a new olfactory direction for the perfume house…"

I'm not sure they're taking such more than the name and the titular note from the original.

This is certainly an interesting approach to reversing the company's fortunes. Reportedly, Clive Christian Perfumery has been losing an average of £2M/yr since 2014. A consortium of UK investors bought CC in hopes of turning it around: £9M in the red later, they sold it to Milan-based Nichebox. I have no idea for how much, but from the looks of the PR material, they didn't have enough left to pay a decent copywriter and copyeditor.

All the same, I do hope the collection succeeds.

The expensive for expensive's sake was both their biggest point of distinction, and now their biggest pitfall. If they can overcome that, they may join the ranks of Creed, PdM, Roja Dove, Malle, and the likes yet. If not, better stock up on those bottles of 1872 now.

Doesn't sound like this works itself out soon.

I do enjoy some of their scents, but much of their branding is as ZC says.... "We're really expensive."

I'm no expert or analyst but at their price points, I don't know if they can promote and advertise their way into better sales.
And it would be probably be deadly to reduce prices.

I don't know all of the marketing and pricing parameters of the perfume business, but I know in the car industry, they know as the price point escalates, the number of people who can/will consider the car gets reduced. When you get to the 60,000 price point, the number of people who can consider your car is small. When you get to 100,000, it's much smaller. CLIVE CHRISTIAN is basically a 100,000 car.

hednic,
Neiman Marcus at Tysons has it. To me, it is old Crown Perfumery style, slightly dusty. Leans feminine.
Very nice red bottle.

Yeah I saw that. I was at Niemans yesterday, but had already received it from overseas two weeks ago.

It's a high quality citrusy aquatic. In the dry down smells similar to Allure Homme Sport / Versace Pour Homme.

I recently bought this one and I'm waiting for the weather to warm up a bit before wearing it. I'm looking forward to enjoying this one Spring-Fall.
