Just how 'Rare' are Creeds 'Vaulted' Fragrances ?

Man, reading this makes me go back when I was trying these out, liking some, disliking many, but the grey caps were the first scents that really made me wonder what else was out there in the world of perfumery.

I still have a considerable amounts of Vetiver 48, Bois de Cedrat, Royal Ceylon, Green Valley, Santal Imperial, Bois de Genievre, and a flacon of Selection Verte. Foolishly got rid of Acier Aluminium, Royal Scottish Lavender, and Royal Water.

Those that will stay in my collection will do so because of the emotional attachment(s), and I know the prices will soar, but I think I'm quietly making room for new experiences. Sad to see Creed go from a house that made me curious to a house that I expect very little from in quick fashion.

To be fair, though, their remaining line is very wearable for most people. I like Chevrefeuille a lot, but I'm not sure how many people want to go around smelling like liquorice. And Acier Aluminum, for all of its delights, is the definition of "niche" (for this brand).

They really should have kept Baie de Genievre in their lineup, though.

I wrote a review on it when it was available at Neiman Marcus as part of atomizer promotion 10 years ago.

Same. I have major regrets over not buying at least a couple of the grey caps when I had the chance, but I have no regrets whatsoever over walking away from this one.

100% agree on the Baie de Genievre; however, the rest of the prior lineup were an introduction to odd notes being used as the star in a scent. Acier Aluminium brought its odd banana-ish scent to the table and landed me right in front of Eau Radieuse by Humiecki & Graef. I never would have tried that without knowing Acier Aluminium. But I totally get what you're saying. The grey caps were an intro to a lot of "new and weird' things. I still hated Epicea though.

However, I have to say that's odd. You picked up licorice with Chevrefeuille - I picked up honeysuckle first.

Royal Ceylon was an impulse buy. Very last 50ml that they had and sprayed it on my wife. She liked it but didn't love it. Then the sales associate sprayed it on me. **Totally different scent** on me than the wife, see below. It's a subtle scent (my style), but after the citrus, it's a comfortable scent that rides between an interesting rice note (same as the one in Pure White Cologne to my nose), actual tea blossom (more fragrant and earthy and not the brewed tea type of note), with a dry down that brings back the citrus and cedar with some vetiver/grass note.

To me, it's a comforting scent, something I tend to wear whenever I want to remain different from the crowd but in a gentlemanly way. It trends towards a mature scent, that feels like I've just opened up a box of gunpowder green tea, in the kitchen some lemons and ginger, and I have a tweed jacket on, and an empty smoking pipe. It reeks of class but it really trends towards older perfumery and Creed's style before Aventus.

Would I recommend it to many? No. It gives off a mixed start with citrus, rice powder, a muddled ginger way up front. But 15 minutes later, it settles down into a subtle tea blossom like with a woody backing that I've never smelled again anywhere else again.

I wish they had kept it too, but realistically I think it was too old school to sell well these days. I always felt it was sort of like a pumped up Old Spice. It didn't smell a lot like Old Spice, but seemed in that same neighborhood but stronger.

Loved the cinnamon note in that one big time.

I was literally just telling someone recently in PM how I’m glad that I never experienced Green Valley because I’m sure I’d like it and it is listed for ludicrous prices. The best deal on fleecebay seems to be a 4oz for nearly $1,400. I suppose if you’re a collector of everything the house has to offer and that’s one of the last ones you need to complete the collection then it is what it is… but Wowzers that’s a steep game to play. That’s certainly out of my comfort zone. I see it as $1,400 can get me several other Creeds that I’d enjoy wearing as much or more, or, many other pleasurable fragrant experiences. And hopefully I’m thinking correctly on that and it’s not the holy grail I’ve been missing all along. I’ve had other holy grails only make pit stops in my wardrobe because the excitement of them vanished as soon as I got my nose on them. At $1,400+, if it was a scent I was truly smitten with, I’d be looking for an alternative.

I just spritzed my wrist, and do get honeysuckle in the opening, but it then settles down into liquorice. Black liquorice, which is nice and unexpected.

I wouldn't change your answer one bit. There's a "green" note in there that I pick up but I never thought of it as licorice. Almost a green chicory type of note, vegetal but sorta similar. Just was not strong to me - my bottle came from the early 2000's.
