I'm Loving Linden Blossom

My recent purchase of Delrae Debut has put me in reverie over Linden. Last year I tried several linden scents looking for the one that had the best sillage and overall appeal.

I settled on Amoureuse because it is a creamy gorgeous linden. But it is heady and it can be too intense for every day. My sample of Debut was, for some reason, mostly lilly of the valley. There is lov in Debut, but I couldn't detect any linden in my sample so I was thrown off. Recently I just thought, WTH, I think I'll have a nice LOV scent and, surprise, I found out that a full spray was really linden, only tamed down from Amoureuse considerably. I feel I must un-do any critical damage. (Not that anyone cares what I think), but I just thought if you are into linden as I am, you might like to try this one again.

I would be interested to know what linden scents you have found. I also like Dorsay Tilleuil. It is a bit woodier, though and has a somewhat soapy dri-down.

I love Provence Santé Linden. It is soft and natural-smelling. D'Orsay Tilleul is nice, but a little heavy on me.

So glad I got company! :) Still have over 1/2 left in my 100ml bottle of D'Orsay Tilleul and I enjoy it very very much (except for the fact that the sprayer is terrible and it is a chore to make a de***t of it!). BTW, I sent it to many a Basenoter to try and not a single one liked it with the reactions ranging from "Uhhh, medicinal!" to causing "a physical sickness" to "not my type". Believe it or not, until this past winter I thought it is a summery scent but it opened up very nicely one frosty December morning. I wear it to bed often.

L'Occitane also has Tilleul and these two are sort of similar -- no wonder -- but done in different tonalities. D'Orsay is woodier-muskier-brighter, L'Occitane is fresher-sweeter- lighter. If I did not have D'Orsay and have a possiblity/luxury of choosing, I would have gone with L'Occitane.

One last sentiment: my Oma would make us kids drink the linden tea -- she picked up the blossoms herself, dried them in the sun and stored them in fabric bags -- only to cure us from sore throats. It worked, together with her love, I suppose.

No, no, this is going to be my last sentiment here: it is pronounced TEEY -- ' OOL.

Aroma Allégoria Apaisant - Guerlain :)

My SoD today and it's very nice on this unusually warm day in North Scotland, less sharp on the opening than when I tried it earlier in the year. I think I'll be giving this some more wearings (assuming we get more warm days :D)

top - freesia, wormwood
heart - mimosa, linden blossom, chamomile, ylang
base - vanilla

Like Lessee I prefer the Provence Santé one-- it lasts longer on me than the D'Orsay one. And so reasonably priced! Only about $36 for 100 ml. The fact that they have matching body products-- soaps, shower gels, lotions-- is a big plus.

I enjoy Provence Sante's linden (I bought mine at Whole Foods) and I also love Holzman's La Parisienne a linden based sparkly floral (Of which I desperately need a full bottle)!

I also adore linden blossom. I use a linden soap for hand washing I especially like. It's interesting this thread popped up as I have been in a reverie over a rare German scent I just acquired called Bogner Woman; it's a smooth, very sophisticated light floral chypre with a heavy dose of linden. And it's exquisite, the presence of linden as the dominant floral note in a composition. It has me sort-of overwhelmed.
For the record, its notes are: bergamot, violet, fruity note, green note, jasmine, linden, cyclamen,
lily of the valley, cedarwood, oakmoss, sandal, and heliotrope

If you get to try some, it's really neat.

The top of my road is lined with Linden trees. The scent when I'm walking home from work on still, warm Spring evenings is intoxicating and I always walk very slowly with my nose in the air, attracting strange looks from passers by!

The Linden note is the reason I love La Chasse aux Papillons. It's more tubeose and organge blossom at the height of Summer but when it's cooler it's a perfect haze of Linden to me.

I purchased Debut for my mother a couple of months ago from First in Fragrance, Germany. They are also giving the body cream for free with purchases, so a bit of a bargain for the price at the moment. This has now become one of her favourite fragrances, lasts a long time and smells gorgeous.

Hillaire, the Bogner Woman sounds wonderful! Is the lily of the valley very strong in it? That gives me pause. To my nose, that note crowded out any linden in Debut.

Another lovely fragrance with linden is Neil Morris Clear. Here is his description:

With Clear I wanted to create a fresh, invigorating scent that could be worn day or night, Winter or Summer, by men, women...anyone who loves a subtle, clean scent. Clear is a sparkling, and “Clear” Scent with Top Notes of Pink Grapefruit and Linden Blossom, bracing Heart Notes of Balsam and Mint, and a warm dry down of Cedar and Clean Musk.

+1 for Neil Morris Clear. I've just had a quick squirt of my sample of this. I always thought it was a women's scent so I'd never tried it, but it is definitely unisex. It's sharper than Debut and very fresh. I'll have to see what I think of it later on when it starts to drydown.

Hi Craig! I agree that it is unisex. I need to try it again, too. It would be a wonderful summer fragrance for anyone, I think.

I have a bottle of Pre de Provence Linden Flower EdT that is about as close as one can get to the real thing. I'm not sure it's made any more. I love the scent of linden trees in bloom, and remember many years ago a street lined with linden trees where I would ride my bike every day. Smelling those trees in the spring was heavenly.

Haunani, it's interesting you ask; I don't get too much muguet at all; it just offers the perfect touch of acid to sharpen the edges of the linden, and the linden has the same presence say rose has in Diva, and it's a very intricate chypre that way. It's really a magical, clean, novel effect on the nose. I wonder why linden's not used more often, more prominently.

+1 for La Chasse aux Papillons!

Yah, what she said!!! The Linden note is my favorite part of La Chasse aux Papillons.

I went through a couple of bottles of L'Occitane's Tilleul 7 or 8 years ago, but I can't find it anywhere now. It was somewhat fleeting, but so pretty and cheap that I didn't mind the longevity issue. I loved it...suppose it is discontinued now.

Pre de Provence still makes a lovely Linden bar soap, but I am so looking forward to trying all of the frags mentioned above.

Thanks for this thread, I just adore linden blossom:vrolijk_26:

I have to thank you all for this post as I am also a devoted linden lover, and initially joined to seek out linden frags. D'Orsay's Tilleul is one of my HG scents. This spring I have begun layering it over Cote Bastide's Fleurs d'Oranger, and to my nose it smells like my favorite raw orange blossom honey. In addition to Tilleul, I have AG's Eau de Ciel (lovely but fleeting), and some sample decants of La Chasse aux Papillons and L'Ete en Douce. The Provence Sante I found a bit too sharp for my liking, and I couldn't wash off Eau de Noho fast enough <shudders>. My eyes and ears are always open for frag tips, so Amoureuse and Debut are now on my radar :)
