that's a bit harsh

...and you would suggest????

There are too many factors involved for me to start doing that, but just the name of the scent would make me run a mile. Sounds snobbish, but the reality is you know what you are gonna get -- and I don't want it.

I love Chanel Bleu, but when I sprayed Extreme on it was not good. Maybe it's my skin, but no one around me liked it. Now Bleu on the other hand is in my Top 5 right now. I could not wait to wash Extreme off my arm. It was that bad. Chanel's a great house, this one just does not click for me.

Maybe there's a misunderstanding of olfactory fatigue.

Are a lot of people thinking of it as wearing a fragrance often and getting seemingly less and less smell out of it?
Perhaps that is olfactory fatigue as well; but the main thing might be a lot shorter than that.

You ever go into a restaurant, and it smells like good food and you salivate? But then after you're in there for a bit, you don't even notice the smell of food until after/around the time food gets served to you or nearby?

Olfactory fatigue might be a survival mechanism where the brain gets used to a smell, and it can help us 'block' out the smell to make way for other smells, perhaps a way to prevent clashing.

I think this is the case with many frags and why there's so many varying tastes and opinions with them. It's funny, your experience with these 2 frags is the exact opposite for me. Bleu does NOT work well on me. Makes me smell like strong incense for some reason. AHSE on the other hand smells great on me. Dries down to a well blended mix of what smells like light chocolate & orange with just a hint of soft mint in the background. Very pleasant, really versatile, and one of my top compliment getters actually.

To my nose there's not a lot in it to smell. It reminds me a bit of Pure Shot, although I like PS better honestly. Eau Extreme isn't bad, it just doesn't really do anything to earn my attention.

Lasts a long time on me too, especially on clothing. Seriously underrated fragrance in my opinion.

Agreed! Not the greatest scent on earth, but surprisingly good for a super-flanker like it is.

If you can't smell it, you are a blessed man. This stuff is just bad IMHO.

LOL!

bwhahahaha, this just made my day albeit the fact I like the stuff XD

Me too!

Yes-- olfactory fatigue is when you can't be bothered to find a nice scent to wear and choose ones like these instead.

LOL! OMG - I've got olfactory fatigue. And in a big (3.4 oz) way! :cheesy:

I have to confess - some people I know in real life (who are not fraggies) are not terribly impressed with it. Bleu is way more popular with people around me. Bleu isn't my most popular frag, but my wife loves it, and so do I, so that's pretty much a done deal. But I, personally, really do love the smell of Eau Extreme. Linear - yes. Even a bit monotone. But it just hits a sweet spot for me. I think that maybe it updates my old love for Allure Homme.

Welcome to the not so wonderful world of olfactory fatigue! Are you ready to sign up for my top notes avoidance course? LOL.

lol

Yes, welcome. That's definitely the case here, and why you can't smell it.

Olfactory fatigue can occur even the first time you wear something. Just look at all the people freaking out about bad Aventus batches (I do believe there are some batch inconsistencies, but the fact of the matter is that many, many people are simply getting olfactory fatigue and blaming it on the batch).

Did you buy it from a reputable source? If so, it's definitely olfactory fatigue. Take a break form it for a few days and then try again. This time wait for a few minutes after you spray before you start sniffing, and go easy on it. There are a few fragrances that do this to me, and it's just a matter of not overwhelming your sense of smell.

Spray a couple sprays on the back of your hand and wrist. Keep them about a foot away from your nose, and give them a few shakes. This is the only way I can enjoy the opening without blowing out my sense of smell. Also try it on paper and see if that helps.

I recently bought Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme and i don't know what to think of it. I read a number of reviews and a lot of people said it had good projection and longevity, however i can't smell it 5 mins after application. Does anyone else have this problem with this fragrance? I can't even put it down to olfactory fatigue because it's not a scent i have worn before.

For some reason, this reminds me of a lighter citrusy version of burberry brit. Anyone else feel the same?
I can't smell anything either. Nothing, no notes, spices sweetness, anything? I can smell all the other fragrances in different brands. No idea why. Very strange?

If you read the other replies in this thread, it's likely olfactory fatigue, i.e. your brain instantly blocked out the too strong initial odor. Don't spray it close to your nose or smell it up close. You can test this by spraying a tester strip or paper, do NOT smell it up close, but put it away in another room. Come back in an hour and see how close you need to come to the test strip to smell it.

If you purchased your bottle from somewhere that is not an authorized Chanel retailer or Chanel directly, then another possibility is that you purchased a counterfeit. Chanel is strict about enforcing their distribution and retail agreements, so their fragrances are rarely available discounted. Any Chanel purchased deeply discounted has a high probability of being counterfeit.

It's common - the oil perfume is still in your skin just not projecting mad style. Walk backward into your own silage(wake) and you'll smell it.

I also don't like the extreme version if I had to pick among the Chanel Allure Homme flankers and think it's more one sided.

From a personal viewpoint alone, seconding that so far the performance and longevity of this was quite decent- even if just during very plain, fleeting and rather little profound samplings/testings.
