How Do You Feel When You Finish a Bottle?

How do you feel?

Accomplished? Indifferent? Sad?

I’m nearing the end with three particular bottles. The first is a sentimental one, and although I’ve come across an equally sentimental backup (from the same person’s collection, my grandmother’s), I’m mournfully eyeing those last few drops. I’m not looking forward to draining it for that last wear.

The second, I’m indifferent to. It’s a scent that I’ve outgrown, and it’s also down to a few more wears. At this point, every wear is more to finish it than to enjoy it.

The third? I’m oddly looking forward to finishing it. It’s the smallest of my BRE bottles, and because I have quite a few more backups in line, I’m slightly excited for the satisfaction of reaching the bottom of the bottle.

What about you?

The more air that's in the bottle, the more pressure I feel to use it up since I'm afraid of it degrading rapidly. I might even be tempted to transfer it into a smaller bottle so there's less air, and I can continue taking my time.

I was like this as well - I felt pressure to use it before I “lost” it.

I’ve since become a bit less afraid of air space, but I definitely know that it’s still very capable of degrading what’s left.

Unless it would be a fragrance would have few to no backups of, would hardly feel affected by this.

Since if the fragrance was bad, with all due respect, good riddance, but also if the fragrance was good and/or (ideally) something could effortlessly afford next-so many more options to consider for a new (including blind) buy.

Considering that so much more did not personally fully explore yet might benefit from a tested and/or purchased addition to the current lineup.

I feel a strange sense of achievement on finishing a bottle! And I agree with FiveoaksBouquet about it feeling good to clear up a bit of space.

Also, The Perfume Shop (a store here in the UK) has a recycling scheme, where if you go into the store and give them an empty perfume bottle, they put it into a recycling box and then you get 15% off anything you buy from there that day. (And it was actually from reading a recent Basenotes article where I learned they'd increased the offer from 10% off to 15%!) So that's a good incentive to finish up a bottle, and rather than just throw it in the bin, use it to get a discount on something new.

Wonderful perspective as usual, Ken_Russell! 🙂

Oh, I love this - how smart!

I wonder if the US utilizes this kind of program 🤔

You’re so lucky to be near a store with that program. I recycle the bottles but it would be so much nicer if they could also be turned in for a discount.

If it is something sentimental I may hesitate to wear it to finish it.... if it is something that I'm lukewarm on, I'm happy to finish it and make space. If it is something I love then I'd probably either make sure I had sufficient backups or get one. I have a feeling on the lukewarm ones, I should probably just prune them rather than wear them if I'm feeling meh about them. :D
