Hi fellas. I just received the pictured gift yesterday. Has anyone any experience with this, and how exactly it works? Obviously, it's preshave oil--something I've never used. It's made in Portugal. Thank you.

I've never used that one, but basically it's an oil you apply to your face after washing face but before applying shave cream/soap/gel. They are meant to further soften skin and beard to help make for a better shave. Read the instructions if any. Some may suggest you apply and let it sit on skin a few minutes before applying cream.

After having haunted wet shaving forums for awhile, I will say they are not widely embraced by wet shavers at large. I think they just find it a needless step if you've got a good shaving regimen.

My experience with them has been mixed. They can lead to a really good shave and usually leave face feeling pretty pampered. Some of them are kind of "sticky" (Art of Shaving eg) - almost like spreading honey on your face. So it can be a bit of an odd experience.

On occasion, I do use Trumpers Skin Food as a bit of a pre-shave treatment. Does it help? Maybe marginally.

Pre-Shave oil is handy if whatever you're using razor and soap/cream wise is giving you nicks or red-rawness.
Art of Shaving used to sell it, though if you check my post on it, just applying olive oil works similarly (but won't smell as nice).

Pre-shave oil works very well with sub-average creams and canned foam, making the shave much better. But I found that using it reduced the performance of the more expensive, very slick premium shaving creams - may as well have just used the cheap creams.
Cheers,
Renato

Thank you, StylinLA. Much appreciated. The directions are pretty poor / lacking. I'll give it a try. :)

Thank you, Renato. Looking forward to trying it, and only use the cheap cans of shaving cream--perfect.

Looking forward to your review here after you've tried it a few times with different creams and foams.

Musgo Real is one of the old school Portugese shaving brands. The continue to make affordable products that deliver good quality results.

Personally, I don't use pre-shave oils, but if I was going to Musgo would be a barnd I'd be happy to have in my den.

Please let us know what you think.

While not particularly familiar nor having yet used many pre-shaving products (apart perhaps from a Proraso Green pre-shave cream) and even less with the brand Musgo Real, tending to second the idea/recommendation that it can be used as shaving prep before both electric and more traditional wet shaving.
