Hi all,

For years, my TOP seven (owned) Fragrances have seen very little change and remain constant. That is to say, my TOP seven Fragrance are my very favorite LOVED Colognes in my collection. As of this date, my TOP seven Fragrances are as follows:

1). L'Artisan DZING!
2). Santa Maria Novella "Acqua di Cuba"
3). Christian Dior "Eau Sauvage EdP (2012)
4). Santa Maria Novella "Nostalgia"
5). Caron Yatagan
6). MPG "Eau des Iles"
7). Marlou (original) 50ml d'ambiguite

Listed below are many of my other wonderful (owned) favorites Fragrances in my collection. I am having a difficult time even trying to pick another THREE to make my TOP 10 list (let alone a top twenty list). So, just for fun, I am attempting to pick another thirteen Fragrances (from the list below) to make my TOP twenty list of Fragrances. I'm curious to know how my fellow Basenoters might rank/choose the following listed Fragrances. Mind you, this is just for fun! Heck, I'd be curious to know which THREE Fragrances you would/might choose just to round out my TOP TEN.

Serge Lutens Chergui
Lorenzo Villoresi Piper Nigrum
Bogart Furyo
Gray Flannel
Body Kourso
Guerlain Mitsouko
Dali
Masque Milano Montecristo

Your top perfume seem all to go in a particular direction...

I would add
Fahrenheit (still somewhat a leather, but a different one)
Breath of God (Unique, goes in the vetiver direction)
Caron pour un homme (a classic).

Shoutout also to Cuir d'Arabie, Caron troisieme, and Guerlain Vetiver.

Hi cacio,

cacio, can you make sense out of my top choices ? You mentioned all seem to go in a particular direction. What is it that you see ? I'm not good at I.D.ing notes/types/styles of Fragrances. I mean, I know what I like Fragrance wise when I get my Nose on it, however, I have difficulty understanding what might be the common theme in my favorite Fragrances. Thanks.

Great lists already, beginning with the impressive starting post and completed by great replies.

In addition to these, as well as (in part) from the completing second, third etc. lists also seconding and/or adding:

Ungaro III including flankers, Knize Ten and/or Knize Forest, Lapidus PH, SL Ambre Sultan, but also Eau des Baux, Dali PH but also any further currently available male/unisex Dali options, the more complex but also not always costly Caron pour un Homme flankers, GFT scents along the lines of Spanish Leather but also Eton College Collection, the Bogarts akin to Furyo but not mentioned so far, Versace l'Homme, Lalique Enecre Noir Sport but also White as well as PH Le Lion and/or Equus EDP as fairly decent options for a (re) testing lineup-admittedly exceeding a literal top 10, however often successfully completing a rewarding and long term enjoyable all time top 10 list.

Hello Ken my friend! Thank you for posting your extended list of Fragrances. Ooh, I once owned Ungaro lll back in the day and I recall liking it very much. I should buy again for old time sake.

Knize Ten (I sampled only) just BLEW MY MIND! Loved it! Knize Ten is near the top of my "WANT" list.
Funny you should mention "Eau des Baux". I hadn't worn "Baux" for a long time, that is, until yesterday.
Ooh, what an outstanding L'Occitane Fragrance! "Baux" has moved into my TOP TEN.

I very much enjoy Dali however, I only wish it would last longer on my Skin. Lovely lovely Fragrance is Dali.
Oooh, Ken, I was sooooo lucky to have recently found a 4.2 oz. (Tester) bottle of Caron pour un Homme at an excellent price!
I consider myself very lucky indeed as it now appears that Caron Pour Hommes is becoming much harder to find and, the cost has been increased for only available small bottle. In fact, I revisited the on line Beauty Store (beauty supply in MA) I purchased my Caron just to check and I quickly discovered that Caron "Pour Homme" is no longer available at this site! Whoa! Me thinks I very well may have purchased the LAST 4.2 oz. "Tester bottle".

Lalique Encre Noire and it's two Flankers are one of THE best (least expensive) "Niche quality" Designer Fragrances that I know of today. A few years ago, I purchased several bottles of Lalique Encre Noire (and it's two Flankers) while the pricing was "clearance" pricing. Even today, the price for Encre Noire is amazing!

Regarding Lalique "White", I have been tempted to purchase Lalique "White" however, I'm just not sure if I would like "White". I already have "Lion". While I found "Lion" to be a nice enough Fragrance, Lion just hasn't rocked my World like Encre Noire. I am considering the purchase of "Equus" however, I will wait until "Equus" is offered for sale in the larger 4.2 oz. bottle vs. the current available 2.5 oz. bottle before I pull the trigger.

Ooh Ken, my Fragrance "want" list is crazy long (and too expensive). I must cut back on my "wants" and put aside some money for a few "Niche" Fragrances that I've wanted for a long time (Diptyque, MPG & Santa Maria Novella). Ooh, I'm also keeping an Eye on two new'er Lalique and Caron Fragrances. I will consider the purchase of these Fragrances when the price drops in the future (which it will). Thanks Ken.

Regarding the common theme, I think your top ones, and a majority of those in the longer list, tend to be leathers/warmer/somewhat animalic. With the exception of eau sauvage (and I have not smelled eau des isles). Few freshies or florals, or even just lighter ones.

Thanks cacio for your observations. I got curious last night after you pointed out "the common theme" and so, being curious, I began searching for information (style/type/notes) for twenty of my favorite Fragrances in an attempt to see if I could find a common thread. I must say cacio, you were pretty right on! What surprised me the most is that the ALL of my FAVORITE twenty Fragrances are classified (according to Fragrantica) as being :

AMBER, AMBER SPICY, AMBER WOODY, WOODY, WOODY AREOATIC, WOODY CHYPRE, AROMATIC GREEN, AROMATIC SPICY, CITRUS AROMATIC, LEATHER, CHYPRE FRUITY.

I will have to study these Classifications in more detail. Thanks again cacio.
