This isn't a general question on whether one wears perfume even when at home or alone, as some people wear perfumes they personally like (and maybe their families don't) during alone time and even overspray when alone. I was thinking it might be nice to have some perfumes specifically for relaxing and unwinding, even when alone, like a specific lavender or tea scent or a lighter citrus scent.

However, I was also wondering if this is better done with a diffuser, essential oils, or even room scent.

What do people here do?

Yes. Acqua di Parma Colonia. The lavender and lemon not only calm me down--they cheer me up.

My wife also sprays pure lavender oil diluted with water in the air over our bed at night sometimes too.

I find oud oils to have strong anxiolytic properties. Especially higher-quality oils with a high level of sesquiterpenes.

I especially wear fragrance when at home. As far as relaxing, I adore:
-Infusions d’ Amande, Prada. Amazingly clean, soft and light. A true delight.
-Bel Respiro, Chanel. Almost meditative.
-I find Coco Mad Intense oddly grounding.
-Youth Dew. Controversial and husband doesn’t like it, but home alone, it’s divine.
-Mitsouko is contemplative and makes me look inward.

I don’t burn many candles, and if I do, it’s Bath and Body Works Eucalyptus and mint or some lavender blend.
i have an oil diffuser with water and essential oils. I like to use the lemongrass one. Depends on my mood.

From a personal viewpoint alone, an "even mix of both" with no specific preference (s).
Most if not the entirety of the currently owned as well as tested scents displayed in the current BN wardrobe, but also essential oils featuring most or at least the more striking notes featured in the vast majority of these.

Certain natural aromas stimulate receptors and yes, I wear certain scents for a desired mood, especially in the evening at home. Sandalwood for example is know to relax and calm nerves.

A good lavender soliflore works well for this, but the one I like to wear to unwind is Oxford & Cambridge by Czech & Speake. It adds a nice peppermint to the lavender and it is as soothing as any diffuser or epsom salt soak for me personally.

It's probably going to be subjective. For myself, certain notes will create that relaxing, therapeutic effect better than others.

curious no one mentioned tea scents as I thought some of those are quite relaxing

so tempted to buy "me time" or "relax at home" scents after this thread
There are plenty of ionic fragrances, like Gwyneth Paltrow's vaginal scent, that seem designed for precisely this kind of introspective "self care". I can't think of too many phallic equivalents (a sign of the times, no doubt) if that's the sort of "relaxing me time" you're thinking about? Or do you mean something else...?

I think Bulgari Homme and its flankers may be good for this.

Personally, my relaxing go-tos tend to have heavier iris notes— Dior Homme Intense, Valentino Uomo, or Shalimar (EDT or EDP).

Scented candles and incense, mostly.

Though I do spray my clean linens with Pino Silvestre, or Lalique Le Lion EDT.
