Not sure I can pick a fave, but the new Vetyverio EdP is fantastic, though I don't own it.

I much prefer the scent of L'Ombre dans L'Eau as its candle, Baies. It grates on me if I wear it, but is softer and fantastic as an ambiance scent.

Tam Dao EdT is a nice cedar and sandalwood scent I enjoy, though both it and the EdP are overrated as sandalwood scents in my opinion - there are better ones out there.

Do Son is a nice floral, especially in the scorching heat of summer if layered over Tahitian Monoï oil.

Eau Duelle EDT and Tam Dao are my favorites, but I do like smelling Philosykos on others.

SixCats, since you enjoy intense fragrances you might want to try L’Eau, Diptyque’s original fragrance from 1968. It’s a spice bomb - cinnamon and cloves. Potpourri for the body.

Hi all,

ClaireV, guess what ? Guess what ? I'm now wearing my sample of Diptyque Oud Palao ! Man or man, the opening of OUD PALAO

blew my Mind! I am VERY much digging OUD PALAO! Thank you. Trilby, come to think of it, I have in fact tried L'EAU many years ago.

I consulted my Diptyque notes from 6/23/2003 (fifteen years ago!) and I wrote the following :

L'EAU (1968) Diptyque/SPICY LIKE (as is) Piper Nigrum. VERY GOOD/YES.

Can you believe I had testing notes on my first trying of Diptyque ? Too funny.

I also had VERY POSITIVE comments on : L'AUTRE, EAU LENTE, L'OMBRE DANS L'EAU, OLENE.

Yaay! I'm glad I (or rather, we) guessed that Oud Palao might be right down your alley alright!

SixCats, you might also want to test the new Hyrax by Zoologist. It is incredibly pungent at the start - not dirty exactly - but this densely saturated smell like the packed layers of bedding under a horse or a hamster, quasi-calcified with old urine and scat. Then 5-10 minutes in, the pungency is lifted or overlaid by the aroma of burning tires. It is quite dry, and fiercely strong. I think it will either wow you or knock you over.

Another thing I tested recently and thought of you - an unlisted sample by Sultan Pasha called Ode (it's a prototype). It came to me sealed with tape around the little sample, and for all that week I searched around my office for the electrical wires that I thought were burning or singed in my office. When I finally opened my sample of Ode, I realized that the scent of burning had been emanating from this tiny, sealed-tight vial. It is phenomenally smoky, with what I don't know, but I suspect cade, birch, oud, etc along with an accord that smells like bitter cherries, marzipan, roasted tonka bean, and patisserie, similar to an old Caronesque fond a couple of us BNers had the chance to sample a few years ago thanks to a kind Basenoter called David. If the budget stretches to it, perhaps you could write to Sultan Pasha for a sampler of his most animalic, oudy and ambergris-heavy attars for you to test and ask him to include a sample of this prototype?

Hi all,

Beck, you summed it up pretty well : "Actually this whole brand is worth trying if you ask me."

I have to agree Beck, DIPTYQUE is an OUTSTANDING House!

ClaireV, THANK YOU for the 411 on "Sultan Pasha" and Ode. I for sure will look into Sultan Pasha.

I recently ordered (from England) SIX Attar Oils from Maison de Parfum Abdul Karim Al Faransi

which are quite lovely (and some VERY Funky!) Love it! Oooh, I still have a bunch (eleven) of Zoologist Samples to test.

Hyrax came out just after I had placed my order. I will make a note to try Hyrax in the future as, per your description, Hyrax sounds very interesting!

Pray tell ClaireV, what part of Ireland do you live ? My Father's parents were from Kilkenny & Tipperary !

Regards,

SixCats!

SixCats, I live in Rosslare Strand, County Wexford, but I was born in Clonmel, County Tipperary! All my family - parents, grandparents etc are from Tipperary, and two sets of great grandparents are buried in the Rock of Cashel. But I go with my family very often to Kilkenny, which is a short 1.5 hours from here, and it's an absolutely wonderful place - we love it! Let me know if you ever make it over here. I worked with a great guy from Maine once, and he had been taught in uni by Steven King, a fact that I could never stop marveling at.

Hi all,

I've owned several Diptyque Fragrances in years past and pretty much enjoyed them all. However, if I were going to buy a new bottle of Diptyque, I'm not sure which one I'd purchase. I'm leaning towards Eau Lente as it is just beautiful and has a subtle Wow! factor. In addition, I especially love the uniqueness of L'Autre. Of course I'm open to new suggestions! What say you ? Which are your favorite fragrances by the House of Diptyque ?

Haha. These fragrance meetings are cool. Hope it works. There are some good fragrance brothers and sisters all around the globe.
