Difference between Ambroxan, Ambrox Super, Cetalox and Ambroxide?

I am fairly anosmic to ambroxan and ambrox super. I get a vague papery, thin, dry note from them. I have tried it at different concentrations and smell it at 0.1%, lesser than than and above that I do not really get much.

So I am curious, what is the difference between Ambroxan, Ambrox Super, Cetalox and Ambroxide? Is there a signification odour difference between them? Or are they similar. Does any one of those smell strong than the rest? Ambroxide seems to be the most expensive of the lot, any reason for that?

From what I can see ambroxide is the general name f the chemical. Ambrox and ambroxan are trade names from two different company's but of the same chemical. They probably smell very similar but because of possibly different routes of synthesis, they may have different ratios of +,- or left /right handed molecules, it's related to stereoselectivity or something like that.

Cetalox is a trade name also but seems to be a specific type of Ambroxide, it has specific right handed and left handed parts of the molecule that separate it from others. I just smelled it at 10% for the first time and it appears that I am almost anosmic to it unfortunately!

I love ambroxan, I have that one and it's pretty beautiful. It's like a sweet tobacco-ish kinda scent. I was so exited to try grisalva (supposed to be stronger) but I'm almost anosmic to that also! It just gives me a faint scent that is nice but not useful!

I just ordered a bunch of different amber analogs, I'm exited but it seems that they are so heavy molecules that it's likely many people cant even smell them! Here is a picture of many different amber molecules...

I thought ambroxide wasnt so expensive compared to some others but idk. I think it was synthesized a while ago so it's not patented or anything. Some of the others are more expensive because they might be patented or only produced by a few companies.

According to good scents, super ambrox is also just a trade name for the same compound.

In my opinion Ambroxan Super is the most "Fine" and "Wow", anyway they are different molecules.

According to creatingperfume.com, ambrox super has this cas number: 3738-00-9. This is the same cas number as ambroxan, they should be the same molecule for the most part.

Now that some time had passed, I wanted to bring this question up again for 2021 as Ambrox Super is wildly available now from retailers/distributors.

For those who have used 'Ambrox Super', is it worth getting if you already own Ambroxan (Kao), Cetalox, Ambrox DL? What does it offer that is different from the rest, if any?

Who's got it for retail sale in hobby quantities?

My first order from perfumer supply house just arrived, with Ambroxan Crystals as well.

I already had ambroxide (sym) (ordered in The Netherlands) and I must say, the KAO ambroxan Crystals have a much more impact smell than the ambroxide!

I was wondering if there anyone has reviewed or otherwise used Ambrox Super since this post? (and apologies boosting an old thread.)

I was thinking of ordering both Ambrox Super and Ambrox DL to compare the two but wondered if anyone else had already done that. Firmenich descriptions below

Super:
Extremely powerful and elegant ambery odor with musky and woody tonalities.
Sparklingly sensual, AMBROX® SUPER offers musky and woody tonalities to amber ingredients. Compared to CETALOX®, this profile is more natural, animalic, and closer to the original ambregris.

DL:
provides warmth, richness and elegance to all areas of perfumery from sheer florals to modern orientals.

Due to its power, best effects can be achieved at lower dosages, however, higher levels are often used to provide performance and substantivity.

Ambrox DL is racemic cetalox with 30% cachalox (a captive material - 9-epi-Ambrox I think but someone can correct me if I am wrong).

Ambrox Super is the natural laevo ambrox of Firmenich, same as Ambrofix from Givaudan and natural ambroxan from KAO I think. Ambrofix is the best of the group and ambrox super is the next best.

Ambroxide is both a trade name wrongly applied to regular ambroxan crystals by one company and, more correctly, it is laevo-cetalox not on the market from any of the big companies but you can have it made for a high very price. Laevo cetalox is the best version. Dextro cetalox is a captive Firmenich product, and Ambrox Classique is the very best - also captive, used in Aventus, etc.
