Comme Des Garcons Luxe Patchouli - Where's the patchouli?

I bought this after reading so many people raving about it here. Not cheap.

All I get in this is what to me smells like angelica root. Angelica root is very powerful and tends to dominate anything it's added to. It also smells like there is an attempt at synthetic irones as well (I have smelled some quality synthetic orris fragrance oils, and the note I get here is a close match).

I have my own blend that uses angelica root, bergamot, jasmine absolute, patchouli, clary sage, sandalwood, vetiver, and ylang ylang 3. It smells a million times better than Luxe Patchouli.

Do people really like Luxe Patchouli that much?

Well you saved yourself some $$$ then. ;)

Smells like immortelle to me, but not as good as Eau Noir or Sables.

I loved it, but not enough to purchase a FB. It's basically immortelle and not much else. It's very rich and dense; almost syrupy and SL-like. It's not that complex and I would've bought it...say have it been 150.

I don't. My sincere commiserations. I tried this at the CdG shop here and it was a memorable experience because it was the only time I have felt compelled to find somewhere nearby to wash off all traces of a scent I have sampled as quickly as possible. If this is immortelle in the raw then I can live without it.

At first, I loved it then I slowly began to realise that Luxe Patchouli was more immortelle than patchouli (and, for me, immortelle is a note that tends to outstay its welcome on my skin). Even if this wasn't the case, it's just too expensive for what it is (or claims to be).

Just received a bottle of Luxe Champaca and I must say my appreciation for this one is 180 degrees from Luxe Patchouli. A male musky floral reminiscent of nag champa. Awesome!!
