Is there someone who has smelled Oud Assam by Rania J and Lao Oud and can provide some thoughts as how much they differ and if there any similarities?
I have tried Oud Assam, probably the only real oud I have smelled and I like it, but not love it. I like the funk in it (small amount, it could be bigger) but there is an aromatic sweetness that keeps me from loving it, I wouldn't buy a bottle. I have an opportunity to buy Lao Oud for a better price than retail so I was thinking if I'd like it more. Still, it's quite an expensive perfume, but as I don't have where to try any Bortnikoff, if I were to buy one, it will be blind (although I kind of stopped blind buying).

Samples is the way to go…get a sense of a bunch of his work and you’ll learn about your own nose too.

Thanks I will order a few decants from a Spanish store and see what I like. I just got a really good offer of those three for less than 400 bucks and was considering pulling the trigger blindly, but I already spent too much money on smelly water this month for such an irresponsible buy

I got my samples and I'm wearing musk khabib right now. One of the best ambers I've ever tried but the performance is not what I expected, it doesn't project much and the smell is quite faint. It was a small sprayer but I don't think this will last more than 5-6 hours with a two inch projection until it becomes a skin scent. Is this anyone else's experience or it's just my skin?

Also some people suggest this is wintery but I think this would shine better in spring and autumn with 4-6 sprays

That's unfortunate. I have never tried MK from a newer bottle, but my old wooden cap version bought in 2020 last for up to 12 hours on me.

Its a shame to hear, I love the scent but the performance is lacking as right now. At least on my skin.

Two and a half hours in and the sillage is the same (close to skin) and I keep getting wafts from my hand as I move weird behaviour for an extrait. I asked and the batch is from 2023.

If it behaves like this until the end of my work shift the performance will be intimate but reasonable at least .

Mine from 2021 lasts a long time. Perhaps it's just the shitty sprayer on the sample bottle?

I'm testing it from a single spray on my hand , it is noticeable but not much. Even if it was a half spray, it should feel denser for a scent of this profile.

New bottles, and these are 'elixirs', so I guess stronger than extraits?

Not understanding why they are doing the labels like this:

Looks very messy to have some in normal writing, the other in CAPS, and the last one in C A P S with spaces in between. Odd design choice

what’s an Elixir? Is that the concentration? These look like tiny bottles compared to the caps. I’m guessing 30ml instead of 50?

The caps are now even more ostentatious…Dimitri really knows how to blow past the boundaries of good taste. The original wood caps and paper labels were perfect, but he needed to get as close to Roja packaging as possible…like an absurd tribute to the worst aspects of Roja.

It started (for me?) with this charming and courageous image of Russian Adam’s pal dangerously foraging for rare ingredients, up to his neck in swamp water being chased by snakes as he harvests lotus blossoms…now it’s him surrounded by velvet, satin, and oversized gold colored caps and badly designed labels…a weird guy, I think. It’s a world of weird and varied (mostly bad) taste, I think!

What if the cap is the same size and the bottle is just smaller?

30 and 50 ml bottles are not much different in size visually, so if previous cap was big, then even on 50ml itll look big.
But i think those might be 30 since its elixir, and it might be that way not to increase cost...
