Hi, I'm interested in buying a vintage fragrance containing real (Mysore) sandalwood. Maybe something from the 70s or 80s? Any suggestions?

Indian sandalwood was used in vintage fragrances along with various synthetics. Today, “Mysore sandalwood” has become a buzzword , a holy grail, and a marketing strategy for artisanal perfumers, but there is nothing magical about Mysore sandalwood except, perhaps, that it is no longer available.

If you are trying to learn more about the smell of high quality natural sandalwood, try this:

If you want to wear a vintage perfume with an excellent sandalwood accord, try vintage Samsara.

Thanks, I have Mysore sandalwood essential oil and I can tell the difference between it and the Australian variety. Hope to find a fragrance for men with it in it.

Pstoller, I'm in awe. That's one of the most beautiful bottles and presentation boxes I've ever seen. 🤩

My vote would be for Samsara, but my hunch is that the OP wants something more concentrated, like the C&E.

I’m not prone to buying multiple versions of a single scent, but I confess I wanted all these variations on Maderas de Oriente for the bottles as much as their contents. The larger ones are EdT, while the central bottle is extrait. If you look carefully, you’ll see what look like toothpicks or twigs on the bottoms of the EdT bottles: those are sticks of sandalwood. (There’s one in the extrait as well.)

“Nótanse en el envase lós residuós que cónstatan la singular elabóración de este perfume. En cada frascó de órigen y bajó invocaciones cabalisticas, han sidó puestas en infusión dentró alcóhól de flóres, ramas jugósas de arbustós de las selvas Asiaticas, astilladas en cuartó creciente.”

Online translators make a hash of this, so I welcome the input of a native Spanish speaker. Basically, it’s bragging about the sandalwood in the bottle. What cabalistic invocations have to do with that, I haven’t a clue. Perhaps they were praying nobody would get a splinter from dabbing.
