Being picky when buying clothes

With wardrobe, I value quality over quantity. I don't want to buy so many clothes that I end up not wearing most of them. If I go to the store and try on 10 different clothes, I may only buy 1-2 of them, or even none. But it adds up; get 1-2 pieces a month, and in a year, you have a sizable wardrobe.

Deals can be nice but the biggest waster of money was buying clothes that I was not enthusiastic about just because it was a good deal. I'd rather buy 1 piece of clothing I love than 2 that are alright.

Lately, I've been very picky when it comes to clothes.
  • I only buy clothes that I'm enthusiastic about - not the maybes.
  • If I really like the outfit, but the fit is wrong, I usually decline. You could tailor it if it just needs a basic alteration, but there are also plenty of opportunities to buy just as enjoyable clothes that fit even better.
  • If I really like the outfit, but I dislike the color, or some aspect of the aesthetic, I decline.
  • What situation/occasion would I wear this piece in?. What niche does it have? Do I already own a few pieces that are better for that occasion?
It'll most likely be there next week, so you don't need to impulse buy. But even if not, there are always deals and sales, in both physical stores and especially online. There are always influxes of clothes coming into outlets and secondhand stores.

Similar policy with returns; if I find that I don't absolutely love it, I return it.

While deals are nice, the biggest waster of money was buying clothes that I was not enthusiastic about just because it was a good deal. Eventually, you'll buy clothes you like more and those clothes you were lukewarm about become obsolete. So I'd easily rather buy 1 piece of clothing I love than 2 that are alright.

My wife has excellent taste and buys my clothing, shoes and accessories for me, probably 90% of the time. I always love what she chooses or surprises me with.

I'm super picky but then my body is, as a friend once said about his own, "hella stupid." It's not that I'm overweight, I just am not the usual shape. So many things fit me funny.

I can't call myself super picky, but i spend a lot of time choosing the right pieces of my wardrobe.
I also like taking time for discovering some new clothing brands, which might be interesting for me.
Right now stuck with Lord And Taylor reviews here , cause i found couple of great models on their website.

Very picky. I prefer Sandro Paris/Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane/Dior Homme by Hedi Slimane for the most part, i love that style of fashion

I'm very picky, but I have still amassed a considerable wardrobe.

While I like some brands/designers better than others, it's all about what catches my eye.

While not very picky and even less of a fashion (trend) as well as famous brand enthusiast, still tending to look out for quality, basic/timeless designs and comfortable wear, occasionally turned more upscale/completed/"spiced up" by mostly unbranded yet still tailored or bespoke standalone clothing items, along with accessories, fragrance choices etc.

However all this only became the dominant option after having lived through a quite erratic "trial and error", "fashion addict/shopping therapy" phase where trends, pricing and/or perceived luxuriousness of clothes and fashion.

Since potential status symbols did frequently overrule real sartorial artistry, age/body type appropriateness and often anything from common sense to actually not stilted yet, more laid back as well as also naturally classy fitting choices.
