Only if there’s something there that I feel woud be worth it. This will be more to see how the characteristics tend to change. I don’t have a lot of oud so I won’t be playing too much.
After my little light bulb moment yesterday, I thought about doing the exact same experiment. I’m having trouble deciding on an oud oil to use… in my opinion, it definitely needs to be a full bodied non-clean but not 100% barnyard specimen. A highly complex one would be perfect but there’s no way that I’m dumping the whole bottle of my most beautiful complex oud into alcohol to see what happens.

I think I’m going to have to buy a complex maybe non-wild, highly available one for this particular experiment.

Another thing I discovered, with these sprays, it’s so easy to add oud to one’s favorite non-oud fragrances. I typically will spray a fragrance on top of (or next to) an oud swipe to create a ‘blend cloud’ (sometimes pouring oud oil into the other spray fragrance doesn’t work out) but spraying them both is a whole new ballgame.

I wonder how the Chinese + Indonesian would merry…like 1 spray of Indonesian to 1/2 Chinese.

Hmmm. That combo doesn’t sound very pleasant to me, lol. Cheese and cola? Ewww. No sir. The only thing I dig about that Indonesian is it’s one spray agar chip smoke moment.

At some point, I might try boosting the Indonesian but for right now, I’m only keeping it for that ‘chip smoke but without actual smoke’ weird but breathtaking moment in time. It’s my Camelot oud spray because “once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment, that was” …. astonishing.

It’s really cool seeing everyone talking about the same exact ouds. There’s so many styles and regions and different distillations, usually it’s like “I wonder if anyone else has tried this oud I have” lol.

Damn! I wish! I’m VERY sensitive about Indian Oud I guess. I found it much more aggressive than even the Chinese!

How many sprays did you do?

I had a hard time ranking them by barn level because they represent two different types of barn in my head: that cheesy funk (totally new to me, this was my first time smelling that type of barn) and that Hindi sour/tamarind kind of barn. I didn’t get any poop type barn from anything.

For some odd reason, I feel like cheesy barn is always a lesser ‘barn’ than sour or poop barn. I can live with cheese. I can live with a certain level of poop too but I can’t handle much sour at all. I could detect a layer of sour in the Indian but with one spray, it was barely there, with two sprays it was medium at most… to me, the sour was never front center in my face. It was always hiding behind something that I enjoyed, like purple fruits or a furry suede.

Also I don’t know if I’m able to pick up on animalic attributes in ouds. I’ve never smelled anything like musk, civet, or ambergris in an oud, it’s always been barn or no barn.

You smell something pissy in the Indian? Like deer musk pissy? I can’t imagine.

This really is quite fascinating and extremely educational.

Extremely sour verging on vinegar is the overwhelming vibe I get from Indian barn notes.

I couldn’t deal with extremely sour. Like at all. I’m sensitive to that sour ferment smell. Vinegar? Oh hell no. I’d scrub it off with dish soap and baking soda. If you got that from this spray then yeah, this type must not be the one for you.

However, I’m sure that if I sprayed this more than three times (or decanted into a heavier sprayer and used that to apply), I’d be past my sour limit and would need to scrub it off immediately.

Another thing is that I think barn would be more apparent if this was dabbed. I’m going to try something today with the Chinese that might confirm this. If dabbed, I think the effect would be almost exactly like applying an oud oil.

So I have to report back that I just tried Indian Oud outside and it’s much much nicer to my nose. I’m getting sweetness, peach, soft barn with a pleasant ferment. Maybe this needs to breathe. Inside it was killing me. I also have a very small apartment on the ground floor. So scents tend to fill the space.

Oh wow, you are getting peach? I will have to look for that next time I spray it.
