Anyone else feel uncomfortable sharing what fragrance they wear?

I guess I've not been asked enough what fragrance I'm wearing for this to be an issue, but I get what you mean when it comes to clothes. I'm really into fashion but I don't buy it to look expensive, I buy it because I appreciate the art and creativity that goes into it. So I do feel a bit embarrassed if someone asks me what I'm wearing and I don't want to admit it's a designer. For this reason I generally avoid logo anything, although logomania is having quite a moment again in fashion.

The only saving grace is that the average person doesn't really know a lot of brands that are common to us, but I suppose if I was wearing Chanel or Hermes I'd risk getting the "ohh he's fancy!" comments haha.

99 % of the people around you won't give a crap if you wear a rolex with a 5 dollar tee. They won't notice. Same with fragrances, whether an expensive niche or cheap designer. If you have to give too much of a thought for these questions you should work on your self confidence. Makes life much easier.

In the 5 years I’ve owned my Rolex I’ve had one comment. You’re right…people don’t notice.

I don't mind answering. I'm flattered to have been viewed as smelling good, I feel the fragrance and brand deserve props, and if anything I would have encouraged a sale to keep that fragrance healthy and up in sales. Mainly I would tell someone to encourage a sale because I wouldn't want it discontinued.

Think of it this way: if they've noticed it and are curious enough to ask about it, they are probably already assuming it's some sort of designer clothing. And if there's already a good chance that they're assuming it's designer, why be bothered to admit it?

Also not bothered in the slightest. As long as and if already asked, an on point reply specifically naming the fragrance worn can be anything from simple trivia to useful info and even possible future fragrance wearing and/or gifting inspiration.

Aah, you must have bought the Chanel. I like that one. I'll call it "Baby Antaeus"!

Yes, indeed, LeChypreSexy, I did! Baby Antaeus, Antaeus Lite, Antaeus for Her—definitely the idea. For a long time Coco Noir didn't click with me but when you likened it to Antaeus, suddenly it fell into place. Lovely scent!

Everyone at work went crazy over Musc Ravageur (people rarely comment on what I'm wearing, but this is the second time this has happened with this fragrance). One of my coworkers asked what it was, but I was too embarrassed to admit that I owned a $300 perfume, so I just said "a French perfume".

No one ever asks me anyway unless they dislike what I'm wearing; otherwise they just say it smells nice and don't care knowing what.

As for Yeezy anything, you may have trouble getting that stuff pretty soon, as Kanye more or less took himself to the cleaners with antisemitic remarks and literally -every- fashion deal he had pulled out. Balenciaga, Adidas, all of them.

As for fashions, I'm in a uniform most of the time so that's not even a concern. On my days off it's pajamas or same pairs of jeans I've owned for 20 years because I never wear them enough to wear them out!

I just love all the comments here. The honesty is refreshing.

I appreciate the reality fashion show, and want to see more and smell more. Please! Be part of the coolness for those of us in the audience. Wear your great fashions, cheap or expensive! Look awesome! Smell awesome! 🌹

Anybody who is worried that people are judging you, please assume positively, for those of us who are! 🤩

When you look cool or smell great, or even better, both, it makes my life better! Please! Interrupt the dreariness of the parking garage and 5000 more lines of code. Your amazing perfume, your fancy ride, and your hair just perfect - that is what I'll remember. Along with your opening the door for me! 😇

Some of my best memories are from Paris, because everyday French people, including visitors and immigrants from the Francophone countries, get the idea that they can be part of the beauty of the world with so little effort or money. It's an attitude.

I may not be the one to pull it off, but if I can spread it by admitting my appreciation, maybe others who can, will do. Make my day!

I love this!!

In my older son’s school, there is this European couple who are so incredibly fabulous, and ridiculously nonchalant about it.

They dress very chic, but extremely, extremely eclectic - with shocking ice-blond hair to match (their sons also have the same hair, with edgy haircuts). Both husband and wife look as if they’ve partied with David Bowie and posed in Vogue. They walk down the hallways during conferences or assemblies with the quiet coolness of a runway model, and I can’t begin to describe their clothes. Borderline ridiculous, but deliciously fashionable.

People always stare, but they’re always in their own world. I love it. It makes my day to see those two break up the monotony of Parent-Teacher Conference day.

I get asked very rarely (aside from my wife) but funnily enough I went to a work meeting the other day and the guy's PA said ' You smell lovely, what is that?'.

I was wearing Knize Ten Golden Edition and honestly, I felt really awkward saying it because when (obviously) she'd never heard of it, I then found myself blurting out the fact that I collected fragrances and giving her some of the history of Knize Ten to which she (again, obviously) just looked a bit taken aback!

So, no, not embarrassed if I'm wearing a bottle of £10 fragrance but because so few people actually mention it, massively awkward about then talking about it if they do.

I think this is a very English thing though.

This. I've been asked what I was wearing and I replied "Orto Parisi Cuoium" and "Zoologist Hummingbird" and nobody knows the brands or how much (or little) they cost. I carry Coach handbags and if you know them, they have a little tag on a chain with the name embossed, but only other Coach fans ever comment on them. I think most people are only interested in their own interests. If I ask someone what kind of car they drive and they say "Ferrari" all I really know is that it's expensive, but whether it costs 100K or 500k I don't know and don't care.

There are a few people uncomfortable sharing that they're wearing a cheap fragrance. Or if they're wearing a clone, they might try to say they're wearing the original.

For me, it's kind of the opposite. I don't really enjoy telling people that I'm wearing an expensive fragrance. I may just be wearing a sample or decant. Or a tester of a Creed I got for $90 several years ago. But if I say I'm wearing a niche frag, people may either get the impression I'm upper class or that I'm trying to floss.

For similar reasons I mentioned in the "Why I prefer unbranded clothes" topic on the mens fashion forum of this site. I prefer to be understated, and not let designer clothing be the main focus of my aesthetic. It's probably a similar reason why I wouldn't wear a Rolex or a pair of Yeezys even if I got them for free.

Granted this is a really trivial topic, and I'm rarely asked what I'm wearing anyway.

To answer the original question, no it doesn't make me uncomfortable to share with someone what fragrance i'm wearing if they ask.

In my opinion, it doesn't matter if the scent someone is wearing is from a sample or decant instead of the original bottle. It's still the same fragrance regardless of what container it came out of, and I don't think any different of someone for it. Me personally, I don't have any decants, but if it struck me to get one to try a fragrance out, I would. If my budget didn't support full bottles, then I definitely would utilize the samples & decants I could get until I could get a full bottle of what i wanted.

I do understand the hesitation sometimes when discussing fragrances with non-fragrance people when it comes to the prices of some of the fragrances we have. They can't understand why I/we would pay anywhere from $130.00-$300.00 for a fragrance we want, but they won't bat an eye on spending that or more on fishing/hunting gear or whatever their hobby is. Not to mention, we get to use ours every day so in my opinion it's a no brainer. You get to utilize what you spent your money on every day.

I get what you're saying though, I just don't pay it much mind when it comes to what I or other people wear or where it came from, or if it's a clone or not. I have fragrances that range from retail prices of $20.00 to $385.00. I wear all of them and post all of them on my SOTD posts, including the three Armaf clone fragrances I own. Although I will say that those three Armaf fragrances are the three most absolute tackiest bottles in my collection.

Sorry if I rambled. Hopefully this came across as I intended and it really is just my 2 cents.

I think perhaps you care too much what other people think if you feel this way. If someone asks what I'm wearing, I have no qualms about telling them, whatever it is, cheap or extravagant. 99% of fragrances are unknown to 99% of the public, so chances are that anyone asking what you're wearing is not going to know the price of what you tell them. And if it's niche or whatever and they actually do know, my guess is that they're unlikely to judge you or formulate some opinion of you based on that, for better or worse. Most niche products are only recognized by people in the know anyway, and they are probably fragheads like you. And if someone is genuinely interested and wants to know, why would you be such a tool not to tell them?

Far as the analogy to Rolex and Yeezy . . Rolex actually makes a great in-house movement and a great watch, and many of their models are iconic, so no issues there. . .Yeezy I would not wear because Yeezy products are fugly, and well because, F Kanye West.
