I mean, the whole house closing wouldn't be surprising at this point; but if that's the case, why would L'Oréal even bother purchasing them just to wind them down?
Yea it's super weird, on the fashion end the house has been revived for a couple years now and is really trending following the recent H&M collab. But as far as I can tell the fashion is mostly about dressing celebrities and creating buzz with very little clothes for sale anywhere that I've seen.

I've not investigated this but does Mugler the fashion brand even have control of the fragrances anymore? I wonder how the licensing deal l'Oreal is structured. It doesn't make any sense that while Mugler is hot they wind down and discontinue all these iconic fragrances.

My guess is they're shoring up their assets, discontinue everything let the discounters and secondary market dry up to wipe the slate clean before they present us with a revamped shiny new designers exclusives line at quadruple the price. AKA " The Guerlain shuffle".

If they do that, I'm just divesting the one bottle of Amen I have and writing off this brand.

I'm tired of reputable designer brands turning into a nouveau riche cashgrab clownshow (VC&A, anyone?)

Alien Man is still available from Mugler USA and L'Oreal Canada websites at this time, but it does look like its days are numbered.
Whenever I visit the outlet mall I'd stop by the L'Oreal store and last year I noticed that Mugler's men's and unisex selections started rapidly shrinking, the men's fragrances dried up sometime at the end of last year and the unisex earlier this year. The women's section is still going strong, however.

It wouldn't be the first time, L'Oreal shuttered Atelier Cologne in North America last year.

It’s hard to understand why companies would shun the US. It’s probably one of their biggest markets, or potentially so, if not the biggest. Goutal did the same thing. Is it something on the level of regulations?

I seriously doubt that US regulations are in any way stricter or tighter than EU regulations. It probably has something to do with corporate earnings and the infamous "bottom line". I mean, if Warner Bros can discard an entire completed movie for tax write-off and Disney can shut down a whole high-dollar "immersive" hotel that only opened a year ago for the same reason, then why not? Corporate made that decision.

They keep putting out women's Angel and Alien flankers galore, so my feeling is that they felt that their men's fragrances were seriously underperforming in comparison. So maybe they were axed in advance of a totally fresh start on the men's side

In the past perhaps. I did see a new Angel Elixir but right now they’re discontinuing more women’s fragrances than they’re putting out—e.g., Angel Muse edp, Angel Muse edt, Aura, Womanity. The dismantling is pretty much across the board.

Totally agree, niche line is gone, AMen, Aura, and I feel Alien Men next (only availability in 3.3 now and no refills).

Stop hurting L'Oréal's feelings. We could lose Ralph Lauren next!

🤣
What has Ralph Lauren done?

Isn't the apostrophe in L'Oreal secretly supposed to be a penis? 😱😵😅
I would've thought you'd stay clear of this sort of thing. Surely you don't want to invite scrutiny in to the possible psychological hang-ups that could animate an adult (male?) to name themselves milkbaby. 🤣😄🐄👶😬🥴

Nothing, it's just L'Oréal owns the fragrance division for them too.
(It's just a joke about hurting L'Oréal's feelings and them shuttering brands over it; but now that I've explained it, the joke is dead...)
Ah, I was concerned RL might be circling the plughole. I wasn't impressed by his new Club release (very poor, generic) but it would be a shame if RL went under as, prior to Club, they seemed able to carve out a place in the market where they made distinct fragrances to the rest of the pack. I hope they don't get the Mugler treatment when Ralph himself passes on.

RL (L'Oreal?) produced a lot of crap in recent years, and Club is as generic as it gets, but to be honest I quite like the new Earth and Blue Parfum. The Ralph Lauren Collection line had some decent offerings too, but I think it was too under-the-radar and subdued (and overpriced) to be really noticed.

As far as killing off an entire perfume brand... wouldn't be the first time, L'Oreal has effectively already done this with Atelier Cologne. Some argue that the brand is still active in Europe, but I recently checked their French website and they no longer sell online and list only one in-store shopping point in Paris and they have had only 2 or 3 releases last year and nothing in 2023 so far...

Is Mugler Cologne (aka "Come Together") the next on the chopping block? From what I can tell, it's not even listed on the Mugler USA site anymore.

If so, this is terrible news. MC is the fragrance that actually got me into this hobby ~17 years ago. And one of my favorites. 😞

Mugler Cologne was discontinued a few years ago, Come Together was its replacement. IMO they are close, but not identical.
I believe Come Together is now also discontinued just like the rest of the cologne line.
