I got my nose on Elevation today. It’s like a roller coaster ride through multiple Oud profiles. It opens with an intense blast of “red” Crassna. Super ouddy, clean with just a small bit of muskiness. It slowly transitions into a sort of patchouli-like aromatic ouddiness that reminds me of IndoMalay distillations. It’s austere, serious, and woody. Think gentle earthiness,

Unfortunately I get zero Kinamic anything from this but there is aspects of the Al-Rub 2 drydown in this that’s really incredible. It’s like warm, dry hay with a hint of creamy sinensis floating around in the background. It’s getting more “sinensis” heavy in the drydown and that’s really nice. A friend said it reminded him of a Hainan/Hindi combo and that’s exactly what I’m getting.

Overall it’s difficult to say if this is worth $900. For a pure Oud spray it’s pretty incredible but at $900? I’m not sure. I think I’d pay $250/10ml’s and be pretty happy.

I don't think they own a disttelry
I believe the Al Shareef family do indeed have distilleries, including one in the Taif region for rose taifi production.

I can’t verify any of this personally this is just based on conversations online and information on their website.

So I went to bed after taking a sleeping pill and woke up to news that I bought elevation last night! :oops:

I really do love it but not sure I need 30ml of it type of a scent. Still trying to figure out if I should offer splits before it comes or what.

How does that even happen?
You got voice activated shopping assistant and you mumbled in your sleep that you wanted an Elevation? 😄

I wish it was that simple. Prett well documented history of people doing stuff after they fall asleep on ambien. I used to take it on tour but I’d sleep walk off the bus at gas stations so I stopped taking them. I figured at home I’d be safe.

I have heard so many people talking about this very thing, some really crazy stories. I heard a woman talking about spending over $14k in one night on Amazon after taking ambien - and not remembering it at all. I guess it's a common - but weird - side effect.

Wow, never heard of it... Sounds more like a memory erasing pill than sleep one, with a built in function to spend money.
Gotta go read up on it, but sure ull be able to split it out no problem :)

How did you like your sample of elevation though, you didnt post your impressions on it.

oh yeah I love it. Sacred and I compared notes. He gets a lot of Cambodian, I get a lot of frosty, minty, tingly green Kinam and Kyara notes followed by earthiness. I wonder how much has to do with climate, desert vs seaside.

Alot. Something like other conversation about areej collection, where oud oil will smell like 1 thing, and perfume spray similar but different, because climate becomes that "space" between the notes.
I find humid and moderate temperature environment to be best for perfumes. Hot and dry not so much. Hot and humid - for traditional perfumes - the worst, but for oriental compositions made from natural ingredients, or attars - absolutely best.

Scandinavians living the best perfume life i suppose 😁

I was about 30 seconds away from buying Elevation but decided to spend all my cash on the 3 ALD’s I got. Still very much interested in it though. How did some of you get samples?

A basenoter was kind enough to split a little with me.
Maybe Proust got his bottle already and can share some with you?

My bottle is definitely waiting for me at home. I don’t get there until the 18th and I’m feeling greedy for it haha. I’ve already promised 10ml to split out so far but yeah, drop me a dm and I’m sure I could spare a little bit. I got my sample from Sealed essence, fyi, I think it was about $100 for 2ml or something like that.

So I dropped a little purple velvet bag I have on tour with me. I keep Royal Ambergris Attar from areej, samples of the history of Chinese and Indian ouds… and my sealed essence sample of elevation. The royal amber bottle broken open the elevation sample… $50 of elevation soaked into the hotel carpet. :-(

Just got my sample set. High quality stuff indeed, though not very original. I found:
  • Qubrus very similar to TF Moss Breches;
  • Ishraaq similar to Bortnikoff L'Heure Exquise, but better;
  • Elevation very, very similar to Agar Aura Layali, which is a tad heavier;
  • Ward close to AlD Gulab (or a smoother version of Beauty and the Beast);
  • Jasmine close to the new FO Oud de Grand (both quite indolic scents).
The new Sandal is a vanilla cinnamon bomb in my skin. That overly sweet cinnamon unfortunately masked the nice Mysore sandalwood used in this composition.

My favorites are Elevation (fortunately sold out, since it was so expensive), Ward, and Ishraaq. Given the announced release of those AlD classics, I think I will save some money for now.

I don’t find much overlap between Layali and elevation as elevation has no rose or davana which is by far the most dominant notes in Layali? Maybe I see a bit of the Oud overlapping but I think if you maybe spend more time with elevation sample, more will unfold.

And ward vs beauty and the beast… I don’t believe there is any Oud in ward which is a pretty big part of b&b?

I do think you’re on the money with Oud de Grand and Jasmine! Just my opinion but k think the Layali// elevation comparison is very much a stretch… especially to say “very very similar”
