First impressions of the new sample set:
Kelantan - I get the cola opening people are talking about; the main sequence is smoky, not unlike a lot of "smoked bbq" vetivers I've tried.

Khashab - A mix of sweet woods, dry woods, turpinic woods. Always with the AA DNA / style that all of the parfums have had.

Kel - dries down to that sweet AA DNA. Drydown reminds me of that Parisian perfume.

Khas - more turpentine woods, reminds me of Mellifluence Attar's al Kholoud

Nothing in that post even implies it's synthetic. It just says non oud..... it could be any combo of natural materials that smells like oud but lasts / projects/ whatever...

I’d go out on a limb and say it’s DEFINITELY NOT SYNTHETIC. I think he uses a mixture a bee propolis, camphor and some type of smoke distillation to bolster all the most popular facets of Oud in his sprays. Not synthetic and yet not Oud.

So maybe he was saying “here’s a mix that smells like Oud and would be worth $15M to a company that uses synthetics” ? Just worded funny I guess.

Anyway, just ordered some Kyara to Byakudan and can’t wait to check it out. I still have a few sprays of Kinam Attar I’ll use up tonight in honor of anticipation :)

Edit: Wow Kinam Attar is crazy when you’re not being stingy with the sprays hahaha. Incredible.

Anyone else have a payment error tonight when trying to purchase?? Not sure if it had to do with using my PayPal balance, and then there is still some left to be paid, or what?? Just doesn’t let me continue....hmmmm

That was my take on it, back when he originally posted that. I assumed it was a natural accord he made to replicate the common facets of burning oud that he likes to represent in his compositions.

Never mind, I figured it out. Didn’t realize if it was balance and card, you have to start at regular checkout and end at PayPal....apparently that’s the only way to use both.

Anyway, bought Khashab!

KtB - opening - that minty woody kinamic note, with a little of the smoky bbq

I’ve never smelled Kinam before...but am wearing Kinam Attar right now. Is KtB similar profile to that? I ordered it blind (without fear after trying the first release). How’s the strength and longevity? Do you get the Mysore easily or have to wait for drydown?

Are you wondering about the extrait or attar? I have the extrait, and I’d venture to say that it has a very similar piercing vaporous (almost sweet mint) Kinam note that is also present in Kinam Attar in it’s opening. After that, the two differ in the heart and drydown. The heart of KTB has a woody, lemony, herbaceous bitterness that is entrancing to me. The base is where the mysore starts to shine: Buttery, rich and creamy. It balances out the top and heart rather well.

The drydown now is like... very light and subtle citronella to me now. I got more mysore in the beginning. I don't find it to be very strong or long lasting; maybe 2 hours. I thought the opening was great, I'd love to try the extrait version.

I've never tried Kinam Attar; I'm connecting what other people have said, and can match what they've called kinam. I've sampled the 2nd collection and this one, I don't see similarities with any of those and KtB.

Extrait or Attar, they’re the same. I like that opening note you describe as minty, I got it from all 3 of the original release I think...definitely from Kinam Attar though. What’s funny is the way you described it I picture Taha taking the leftovers of Kinam Attar, Soryo No Kaori and Al Jazzab and dumping them all in a jar together and shaking it up hahaha. The lemon from Al Jazzab, the herbaceous bitterness from Soryo No Kaori ...I think I’m going to love this. Thanks for the details!

Oh wow...I’m surprised it’s not very strong, was hoping for Kinam Attar strength. Maybe the alcohol helps with that. Interesting about the 2nd collection. I didn’t try anything from it, only the first. All 3 were amazing and I’m hoping KtB can join the ranks with them because I literally have a few sprays of each left (sample set) and they are my prized Oud compositions for when I want straight nature up my nose. Beautiful compositions. I’d highly suggest Kinam Attar. There’s no Kinam in it but whatever it is it’s damn good lol.

Since Taha initially forgot my discovery set with my order (it's on the way now tho) I had some more time to focus on my samples of Al Arabiya, Myitkyina 4K, Vietnan Special K and Malay Atique. For the moment just on Malay Atique: wow! If I would have blind sniffed this, I'd have thought this is a patchouli oil. Very damp earthy, wonderful petrichord. And this stuff is so thick, such a high viscosity. Rarely have seen such a thick oil.
Overal I'm definitely considering 2.5gr.

Same formula. Different wearing experiences. The extrait will highlight those higher-pitched top notes, and the attar will stay more grounded and sandalwood based.

Dude, yes... It smells like aged patchouli and oak moss(IMO)... so crazy.

I just knew what to expect in the different forms so it didn’t matter which you described. I’m slowly going full Attar and trading out my sprays because I like how I can apply oil more so than sprays. Just smear it everywhere lol.

Trying a sample of Kyara to Byakudan and I'm only thinking how much Vietnan Special K should I purchase? Really curious about Vietnan on its own. This seems to me like a very different type of Vietnamese oil. Different than the likes of Nha Trang Ultima, LTD, Royal Guallam.

What exactly is “Vietnan” anyway? Is it another way of saying Vietnam? Or something completely different?

It’s a Vietnamese oil, from Ha Tinh....but it has characteristics of both Vietnamese and Hainan Kyara...hence Vietnan, a fun play on words...

It’s incredible. More bitter herbs and clean as hell leathery vibes than Nha Trang LTD... I’d say if you went from LTD to Ultima(deep sweet lacquer to sweet savory) and kept going in that direction you’d get to this oil and then eventually to Kyara 2.0 all the way on the opposite side. Does that make any sense to you? I know it’s pretty inside baseball.
