Acqua di Giò Profumo reformulation

I am researching Acqua di Giò Profumo as I might want to buy it. I've seen some people claiming that it was reformulated in 2022 and that reformulation negatively affected both projection and longevity.

If you have experience with newer bottles, that reformulation happened indeed or they just did some changes to the bottle (removed magnetic cap, white lettering instead of silver)?

Also some are saying the 180 ml variant is from the older batches. It does have higher prices for ml then 120 bottle, which is weird. So that might hint, too, at a reformulation.

There are some who say it's discontinued, and indeed it's not featured on Armani's website but can be found in plenty of stores.

Meanwhile, I made more research and it seems to be on Armani website but just for EU and since some people said it didn't change, I bought one bottle. It's weird I never paid attention to it until yesterday, when it was recommended to me on another thread. I always thought is similar to Sauvage or BdC.

I've bought numerous bottles of different sizes over the years through past "reformulations" and the changes of bottles from magnetic to non magnetic caps and I have noticed no change in performance or longevity.

Still a great fragrance and although stock tends to come and go it's not discontinued.

This guy says the incense note is gone and the projection is significantly worse. Now I am not sure whether to return the package when it will arrive.

Well believe the reviewer on YouTube if you like but once again I have bought and owned

2016 75ml magnetic cap - opened and used
2017 75ml magnetic cap - opened and used
2020 125ml magnetic cap - opened and used
2022 125ml click cap x2 - one opened and used, one still sealed
2022 75ml click cap - opened and used

All that I have opened and used have had the same projection and longevity and none have lost the Incense note. The Incense note is what really sets it apart from the others.

I mean, do what you want but it sounds like you're over thinking this.

If you like it, does it really matter?

I saw lots of complaints on Fragrantica about reformulation. :(

So after replying to this earlier today I did a blind test with my wife.

5 hours ago I sprayed 2 sprays of my oldest bottle (mag cap and silver text) and 2 sprays of my most recent bottle (click cap and light grey text) on tester strips.

At the time of spraying she says she noticed no difference between them. She has been out all afternoon and has just smelled them again, blind, picking out the 2022 bottle as "smelling stronger".

Profumo (early 2016 batch) is one that varies wildy in performance on my skin. Some days great, other days not at all.
It tends to last considerably longer on most fabrics.

That site's reviews columns are dumpster fires of mealy-mouth troglodyte man-children, a real adult daycare center where people say things like "but muh ventus" unironically.

I wouldn't much trust the paid writer staff either without knowing specific individuals personally. They push an agenda, usually one that stirs the pot for site engagement or does brands a favor.

There are certainly some fragrances that do get reformulated. Obviously, a lof of scents from the 80s, 90s, 00s have probably had to make a lot of changes due to various IFRA restrictions.

I'm not an expert on IFRA regs or profit management at a major perfumer, but I don't see any reason they would tinker with AdG Profumo. I never really liked the orignal AdG but the Profumo version is very nice.

After over a dozen years of being ensconced in fragland, I am amused by many of these dire warnings that something relatively recently released has been gutted, remformulated, destroyed. The batch number stuff makes me smile. Batches have become a part of the whole Aventus cult, but when I start seeing them for stuff like Invictus, it's an eye roller.

Fragrantica is an interesting resource for frag reviews. But their vetting process seems fairly laissez faire. That's kind of good and kind of bad at the same time. I sometimes see downvotes for frags before they have even been released. I read their reviews very cautiously. I do appreciate they usually have several reviews for anything released seemingly hours after it hits the street. But as noted by Varanis Ridari, there are also a lot of fairly immature types trolling in there.

Ultimately, the only opinion that matters is mine. Views here and other online sources can often point me in a direction, but until I test it and wear, no idea if I'll like it. If you don't live near stores that carry stuff you want to try, get patient and get small decants- 2ml or so. That has saved me hundreds of dollars.

That's a good point. Thing is I want to avoid a potential deception if I can. I solely read reviews on Fragrantica, their editors tastes and mine mostly don't match. I was more interested in random people commenting. Of course, some might be trolling, some might have trouble smelling but some should be genuine. It's hard to tell, though, which is which unless you read more of what a particular user was saying, which I don't have time for.

And since I didn't know what to believe about what people were saying on Fragrantica, I asked here.

I've got my bottle and wore it once but I can't say anything about performance yet since I have a flue and stuffy nose.

I couldn't agree with this more. Every day I see one-sentence reviews there which I ignore immediately. But more recently, I've even come across one word reviews like "CEO". The effort some contributors put in to their reviews there is just a joke. Some are clearly more involved and that is obvious from the quality of what they write, but that does not change my overall opinion.

I have the reformulated current bottle of the scent that is on the shelves. I get nearly all day longevity and the projection is quite strong in the first few hours. It's one of those scents that I have to be careful in how much I spray as I don't want to overwhelm anyone with my fragrance.

Is there any confirmation on Profumo being discontinued or is it just low stock, having trouble sourcing materials for it? I know Code Profumo (and their flankers) was discontinued
